The Neverending "Please Read It Again" Story
We found this book at a Renaissance Faire bookseller last summer and picked it up for our granddaughter, who was just 1 at that time.For awhile it sat on the shelf, but in the last few months it has become her second-favorite book.We will often find her in the middle of her bedroom floor, looking at her beloved "Princess Alice."She loves having it read to her, and we are often hard-pressed to get her to stop at one story at bedtime!She will sit by herself and talk about the illustrations, too, telling herself the stories.She laughs at the pig, loves the flying granny who rescues her cat, gets a gleam in her eye when Alice and her brother sneak into someplace they're not supposed to be, and thinks it's great fun when the princess and prince play dress up or get dirty.I strongly recommend this book because it takes the fairy tale princess myth and injects modern sensibilities that today's little girls can relate to.It also makes a strong, opinionated princess the hero, not her older brother, the prince, as so many fairy tales do.We don't know if our granddaughter will become a princess, an explorer, or a puppeteer as she grows up, but we do know this book has brought her great joy, and we expect it to do so for many years to come.

Castle Tales by any other name
We're big fans of the Usborne books in our household but were very disappointed to discover that Princess Stories is just Castle Tales repackaged, presumably to cash in on the princess craze.

So, four stars if you don't already have Castle Tales and don't mind the repackaging.But if you already own Castle Tales you'll feel burned just like we do.

Edit: Wandering around Amazon and came back to this review for the first time since I posted it.I'm just amazed that anyone could mark this review as unhelpful.Great literature it may not be but it contains an important piece of information which could help a potential buyer.How is that not helpful? ...
