Product Description
 Powerlines: A spaceman collides with massive force-tubes in deep space. Gravely injured, he manages to crawl into his spacesuit. The sophisticated unit saves him, but a monstrous tentacle penetrates the broken hull and—to his horror—looks him over! Then, he’s plucked out by a giant scorpion which proceeds to fill his spacesuit with pink, digestive juices—or so he believes—but he so wrong! Cosmonograph: Selene has invented an Artificial Intelligence (AI) to run a factory producing more like him. Events turn ominous when BAAL shows Selene a video from alien’s just like him who have manipulated our universe from the beginning of time to produce human beings—so they will, in turn—create new AI’s! The fate of humanity hangs in the balance. Stashapocturus: Heartbroken, a young peasant—enslaved by religious zealots known as the Br’arn—tries to throw himself past them into a black-void after his beloved. He kills one and blinds another. Once within, his body is engulfed by pure magic—but he soon discovers it’s a high-tech library on a centuries-old starship and has somehow avoided death from a horrible malfunction, unlike those before him. Transformed, he becomes the Master Librarian and Controller—but in a horrible twist of fate—discovers the Br’arn have tortured and killed his family in retribution. He seeks his revenge and tries to save the enslaved colonists—but will the Br’arn let him? Starship Elysius: Starving and facing mandated termination for being old, and dealing with thugs from a corrupt government, the colonists have been in deep-space so long they don’t know they’re on a vast space-cruiser. Spanner is caught giving the family of his betrothed a stolen pig when the local thugs come to execute her aged father. Recognized by the thugs, Spanner engages them in a deadly fight, but is betrayed by the very man he came to save and finds himself bound for a life of slavery. Providence gives him a choice: submit to servitude; or throw himself into Masheen Hell—the dwelling place of the Devil Silvakiller! Hansen versus the Vaptons: Brutally attacked, the Colonial Freighter Pulsar, is virtually destroyed by giant, lobster-like crustaceans known as Vaptons—but a few of the humans have survived and fight back with a vengeance! Terrified by stealthy, smart missiles from Pulsar, the Tarpton Nargle flees, cowardly abandoning his own. In desperation, the remaining Vaptons press the attack and soon find the humans to be dangerous foes indeed! A small, powerful destroyer and her crew engage the aliens with deadly results. Fighting to a stalemate, the opposing forces stand off to recover from their deadly battle and Captain Hansen sends his space-marines to reconnoiter and—much to his dismay—discovers the real reason for the attack. Suzy and Gravity Machine: Falling inexorably into an Interstellar Maser, a damaged, colonial freighter faces certain destruction. The crew moves the survivors into Engine Pod 7 (which uses nuclear triggers for propulsion) and the captain calls for Suzy Maitlyn—hoping she may know of a solution—for if they fire a ‘propulsion package’ without the massive freighter’s weight, they will die! Suzy recalls something about a ‘gravity machine’ and in a desperate gambit with death, she and a handful of space-marines set out. They find it alright, but accidentally turn it on and it viciously pounds them with brutally powerful gravity-waves. Will they survive? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Poet of the Lost Cause is a superior study that delves deeply
I agree with the highly favorable reviews of this book in academic journals, such as the Journal of Southern History [Dec. 09], which states that the authors (Donald Robert Beagle and Bryan Albin Giemza) "delve deeper into Ryan's life, providing a more complete narrative and addressing...events and controversies not noted by previous biographers...the authors weave into the narrative a critical analysis of the artistry, rather than just the content, of Ryan's poetry." The review states that Poet of the Lost Cause catalogs Father Ryan's participation in the Civil War, and "convincingly establishes" the case that Ryan was at the battle of Lookout Mountain. The review concludes "This highly readable volume should be perused by anyone interested in the Civil War, the Lost Cause, the experiences of the Irish in the South, southern Catholicism, or southern literary history." Meanwhile, the Religious Studies Review [Dec. 09] states that this book "...is a welcome addition to the increasing interest in examining the nexus between religion and the Civil War...the authors provide students in history, literature, and religious studies a comprehensive account of a complex individual whose influence resonated with a host of later southern writers...this is a superior study that resurrects the leading architext and apologist of the Lost Cause." I would add that the book's thirty illustrations and numerous excerpts from Ryan's poetry add greatly to its impact. ... Read more

In the flamboyant Twenties, Englishman William Grover-Williams and Frenchman Robert Benoist were fierce rivals racing their elegant Bugattis on the glittering European race circuits. Not only is the World Championship in their sights, but they have both fallen for the sensuous charms of the extravagantly beautiful Eve Aubicq. But when war breaks out, everything changes. Paris is in the iron-grip of German occupation and Robert and William join the Special Operations Executive to help the French Resistance undermine the brutal occupying regime. Their missions involve utmost courage and daring in the face of the horrors of war. Based on a true story of British covert activity and the French Resistance during the Second World War, this is a gripping novel of heroism, self-sacrifice, love and betrayal. ... Read more

Product Description
This is the first book to examine the literature of the Romantic period as a conscious attempt to affect the religious transformation of society. Robert Ryan argues that the political quarrel that preoccupied England during the Romantic period was in large part an argument about the religious character of the nation, and that the Romantics became active and conspicuous participants in this public debate. Ryan shows how the careers of the Romantic poets are radically reconfigured when viewed in the context of the period's passionate debate on religion, politics and society. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Fun, Fast-paced Read!
This book has everything: action, humor, romance, suspense. From the very unusual beginning to the action-packed end, I thought this book was especially well-written -- particularly for a first-time author. To me, the most appealing aspect of this book was Ryan's ability to mix subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) humor into even the most serious situation. The author has a GREAT sense of humor, and there were times that I actually had to put the book down to wipe the tears from my eyes.In addition, Ryan has a way with dialogue.Although the conversations between the characters served as the main means of character development, as the book progressed the characters grew increasingly more intricate and realistic until, by the end, it became hard not to sympathize with some of the bad guys even as I was rooting for the hero.In my opinion, "The Junkyard Dogs" is a darn good read and an impressive first work. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Flying Tigers, The Hump, Espionage - Adventure
I couldn't help but read this book envisioning it as TCM Classic in black and white or sepia from the 40's. In my mind I envisioned the characters as Bogie, Bacall, or Van Johnson or some other of the greats of the golden era. I really enjoyed this read. The China-India-Burma theater of war and the Flying Tigers and flying the "Hump" all wrapped around espionage and a excellent romance, adventurous plot. - Again. this is superb story which could very well have happened during WW2. I hope to find more novels like this. Now, I am going to have to add this author to my to-be-read pile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read!!
