These are tapes of lectures about Adam Smith and his book "WEALTH OF NATIONS".The narrative is about the economic background of Adam Smith's time and how it influenced his book.It also delineates some of the pertinent ideas of his discourse about the wealth of nations and his economic philosophy.These tapes are good learning instruments for those who don't want to read the large and laborious original text but still want to understant Smith's main ideas.Smith's ideas are still relevant and are the basis of the writings of people like Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman who pilfered some parts and put out their bastardized versions as new ideas.
Obama should listen to these tapes, then maybe he would stop giving taxpayer money to the banks and financial institutions in order to invigorate the economy.If you give billions of taxpayer dollars to billionairs, they are likely to just pocket the money, which does nothing to stimulate the economy.Smith explaines that a few wealthy individuals don't make a wealthy nation and free trade does not mean a few powerful individuals are free to make the rules.In the end, free trade, like communism is not viable in the real world. ... Good Summary of WWI; Little Info about the Spanish-American War
"All You Want to Know: The United States at War: The Spanish American War and World War I" is a decent short history of the Spanish-American War and World War I.Read by the authoritative George C. Scott, this is a good introduction for someone who does not know much about these conflicts, although the section on the Spanish-American War is very lacking in detail about the actual conflict.

The coverage of the Spanish-American War focuses almost entirely on the political situation surrounding the war, especially the build-up to the war.Less than five minutes are spent on the actual fighting - the attack at Manila Bay, the Rough Riders' attack, and other notable (or less-notable) events are barely mentioned and glossed over.This recording does a much better job covering World War I, both politically and militarily, and gives a complete history without focusing only on American involvement.

George C. Scott does a great job narrating, but longer quotations are read by others, and some of the quotations by foreigners are read in too-heavily-accented voices that make it difficult to follow.

Ultimately, the section on World War I deserves four-stars as a solid effort, but the shorter section on the Spanish-American War deserves two or three stars because it almost completely ignores the actual war.

After purchasing the whole set of this wonderful series I have not only come to appreciate my life, homeland and ancestry but I have learned how grateful I am for all of it.I have often wondered why I have this strong desire to get as much knowledge as I can about history.
