Product Description
Marguerite Duras and Charles Bukowski were each dramatically shaped by their early life experiences, established in the environment of a dysfunctional family. From their early negative exposure and emotional indoctrination to life, Duras and Bukowski each developed as individuals who, at a young age, acted out behavior that was in direct conflict with the commonly accepted standard of their individual societal norms. From the moment these authors made the adolescent choices that they did, the rest of their physical and emotional existence was ultimately defined. What was created was a body of literary work that truly came to shape modern erotic literature. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Before This Last Once Upon a Time
This short graphic novel from relatively new comic company Kizoic contains three short stories that are prequels to the movie SHREK FOREVER AFTER.

The first story is entitled "Rumplestiltskin's Revenge".It feature Rumple trying a variety of different ideas to get revenge on Shrek for ruining his chances at becoming King of Far Far Away by saving Fiona. The story is a prequel to SHREK FOREVER AFTER and ends just about where the movie begins. The illustrations in the story are billowy and not as defined as the animation in the movies.

The second story is called "The Pied Piper" and features the silent Piper. The Rat King steals the Piper's flute. The Piper seeks out a new musical instrument and signs a deal with Rumple to come to his aid whenever he needs him in exchange for a new flute. The illustrations are of a higher quality than the other two pieces in the book and look like stills from a movie.

The last story has no title but features the ogre, Cookie and the Gingerbread Man.Cookie gets stuck in some quick sand and is saved by Gingy. In exchange Cookie bakes a special recipe for Gingy that brings about the resurrection of a beloved character from SHREK 2. The illustrations are the most cartoon-looking.

SHREK FOREVER AFTER (THE PREQUEL) GRAPHIC NOVEL is a short book that is easy to read. I read the entire thing in about 15 minutes.I enjoyed reading it and found it to be a pleasant distraction.I particularly enjoyed the third story in the book with Gingy and Cookie. Children and adult Shrek fans will probably enjoy this book the most. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little book - well worth the money
There aren't that many martial arts dictionaries to begin with, but this one is really quite nice.It has a 6"x4" form factor and is a little under an inch thick. At 318 pages and 7000+ definitions, it packs quite a punch and I've found it very handy.

Definitions are given with their Language of Origin (Japanese, Okinawan, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin) and includes pronunciation guides for the same.As far as printing, it's on quality paper with a clean font and the printing is quite exceptional compared to a lot of rag books that seem to pop up in the MA world.

With this many definitions, it covers a lot of ground.I wouldn't mind it including more phrases, especially terms from particular styles. However, when it does have phrasing, it tells you if it's commonly used, or particular to a given style of MA.

I love the size and it's a nice addition for any student.Certainly it's worth it's price. One might think it would be helpful to include the native language pictograms, but with multiple languages, this could be confusing. Those typically take up a lot of space and for the most part, English speaking martial artists don't tend to need that information. If you do, I recommend you pick up an accompanying dictionary for the language you need.

I lament only one thing about this book, and it's why I can't give it a 5.Although the pages of the book themselves are bound and cut very nicely, the cover gluing is brittle and the cover came off of mine amost immediately with use. It's hanging on by the edge of the front cover, and I'm certain I'll need to glue this up on my own to repair it.I may have simply been unlucky.Either way, it can be fixed and shouldn't detract from your consideration to purchase this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book to keep in Karate bag
Easy to find words and handy size to keep in your Karate bag. Doesn't cover all but does a good job covering most of the common names. Has blankpage at the end to make notes. Well worth the money. ... Read more

Product Description
In the summer of 1993, James Wood brought terror to the unassuming town of Pocatello, Idaho. Little did the friendly community realize it had opened its arms to serial killer. Wood, the stranger in town, was polite and soft-spoken. He looked quite ordinary-he was a master at appearing normal. In late June, Wood abducted and murdered Jeralee Underwood, the eleven-year-old daughter of a devout Morman familiy. The entire region was shocked and outraged. Now in Eye of the Beast author Terry Adams teams with lead investigator Scott Shaw and forensic psychologist Mary Brooks-Mueller to bring readers a unique perspective on this case. Shaw takes us into the heart of an exhaustive investigation, while Brooks-Mueller shows us the mind of a true sexual psychopath. Having spent years researching this case, the authors are skillful in recreating this true story about James Woods-one of the nation's most unusual serial killers. The case that rocked the Morman Church. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars SO-SO
This book was not bad reading, but I wish that it would have told more about Mr. Wood's childhood. It wasn't the best true crime I have read, but it's worth the time to read for true crime buffs.

4-0 out of 5 stars A compulsive predator.
This book chronicles some of the crimes of James Wood. He was a sociopath made more dangerous because he was so compulsive.

Woods had talent as an artist and most of the time he was viewed as overly friendly. Too much so for some people that he met.

The real hero in the book was Scott Shaw, who connected with Woods well enough to ultimately get a confession and closure on the case of Jeralee Underwood, the 11 year old girl that was his last victim. Along the way, Shaw got confessions about another local rape that could have easily had the same end result as the Underwood case. Woods also confessed to a rape and attempted murder of another teen girl in the St.Louis area.
He eventually solved more than 40 sex crimes and 180 armed robberies that were committed by Woods. Scott Shaw got a close look at the very twisted mind of an unusual type of killer.

Shaw's perception was instrumental when he linked the rape with the later murder and insisted the perpetrator was local, contradicting the profile by the F.B.I.

Some of James Wood's cousins broke the case with information that they provided to the police.

This book is researched thoroughly and it is hard to put this down once you start reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very close to home
I grew up just outside of Pocatello, Idaho and was the same age as Jaralee Underwood when she was kidnapped and murdered.James Wood haunted my dreams for many years and I was completely sickened by the things he did and the fact that he was even able to do the things he did...the man should never have walked out of the the Louisiana prison in the first place. What a sick awful man.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good True Crime Novel
This is a well written book that I believe does a good job of exploring the life of James Woods.I recommend this as a good read for any true crime buff who is interested in serial murders.

Product Description
In this novel of pulp espionage, the author, Scott Shaw, takes the reader deep into the realms of Asia -- presenting the sights and sounds of the environment in a manner that can only be truly depicted by a writer who has lived the experiences and knows the region. This first-person, graphically explicit tale, follows a reluctant protagonist as he travels from his home in Southern California, recruited by a dubious faction of the United States government, to handle an operation that no one else would touch. Expendable, was the key phrase in his recruitment. Chalked full of unexpected plot twists, this action-packed novel follows the lead characters as he transverses the realms of lust, love, anger, until he finally embraces the pure emotion of self-sacrifice -- seeking only to save the female agent who was sent with him on the mission. Publishers Weekly says, "Gripping... This is not your grandfather's spy novel. ... Read more

She advocated Christian Science as a spiritual practical solution to health and moral issues. Accomplishments included: She and others credit her with the ability to heal instantaneously. Married three times, she took the name Mary Baker Glover from her first marriage. She was also known from her third marriage as Mary Baker Glover Eddy or Mary Baker G. Eddy. Mary Baker Eddy, the youngest of the six children of Abigail and Mark Baker, was born in Bow, New Hampshire. Although she was raised a Congregationalist, she rejected teachings such as predestination and original sin. She suffered chronic illness and developed a strong interest in the biblical accounts of early Christian healing. Starting at the age of eight, Eddy began to hear voices calling her name and would go to her mother only to be told she had not been called. In her autobiography, Eddy relates one of these later experiences: According to Yvonne Cache von Fettweis, in her book Christian Healer, "Mary's religious upbringing had taught her that all men are God's servants." Returning to China in the mid 70s, he became the first Westerner to be given insider access to the closely guarded Taoist Fire tradition and its priesthood. After completing seven years of training he became priest in the Fire tradition. Excerpt: Scott Shaw (born 23 September, 1958) is an American actor, author, journalist, film director, film producer, musician, professor and a well-known martial artist. Shaw was born in Hollywood, California. He spent his early years in South Central Los Angeles and then returned to Hollywood for his adolescence. He became involved with the martial arts and eastern mysticism at a very early age. Both of these subjects have come to define much of his life. Shaw has had an extensive career in both the arts and the sciences. He first became noticed as an author when his poetry and literary fiction began to be published in literary journals in the late 1970s. Beginning in the mid 1980s Shaw's writings also began to be published on the subjects of anthropology and the social sciences. Though his writings have span many genres, Shaw is perhaps most well known as an author on the subject of the martial arts. This is due to the voluminous amount of written work he has composed on the subject. Over three hundred of his articles on the martial arts have been published and he is the author of several books on the subject. The foundation for Shaw's writings on the martial arts began when he was six years old. This is the point when he began his study of the Korean martial art of Hapkido. Shaw initially studied Hapkido under the direction of Duk Hyun Son. He later went on to study with Sea Ho Choi, Hee Hwan Yoon and Sung Soo Lee. Shaw studied and taught Hapkido and Taekwondo until in 1987 he was the first American to be awarded the 7th Degree Black Belt in Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo.
