Product Description
Danny is the story of a true event about a man with Down syndrome who was senselessly and viciously murdered. His life is recounted, and the criminal investigation, trial and its results are laid out for the reader's scrutiny. Only then are readers able to understand what happened to the criminals and to DannyÂ’s family.

Throughout DannyÂ’s life there were many crises, which he overcame by the strength of his personality and family support. Danny had many clear-headed attributes, and he certainly utilized his intellectual abilities to their maximum. Out of determination and need, Danny created his own business enabling him to become self-supporting and financially independent.

But rather than giving him the recognition he deserves, we are left pondering his fate. Danny was brave and didnÂ’t submit to his aggressors. His bravery was no different than a soldier's on the field of battle.

Danny's death, unfortunately, presents us with a dilemma: Did he fail to receive equal justice under the law, because he was handicapped? In many ways, our society and the people who govern it appear to be unable to properly cope with individuals like Danny. On the face of it, for whatever reason, our highly technical society is regrettably able to abstract itself from the needs of its less fortunate members.

Heroes are not selected. If they were, they would all be glamorous, rich and, perhaps, celebrities. In reality, we must accept a hero from whence he comes. Danny was an authentic hero, even though he came to us from poverty and obscurity.

3-0 out of 5 stars Deserving of comment
This book asks important questions. What is the value of a life with Down syndrome?A sobering account of one young man's murder it makes visible how little we value the lives of those with intellectual disabilities. Paying tribute to Danny's memory it is to be recommended to anyone who cares about life and how we need to maintain strong communities.

5-0 out of 5 stars ARemarkably Good Read--AReal Page Turner
Based on a true story, this book provides the reader with twounforgettable insights. The first is the "human-ness" of thosemembers of our society not blessed with perfect births, and the warminterrelationships of their direct family members as well as the"neighborhood" family members. The second is an "in yourface" realism of the consequences of the deterioration of our olderestablished neighborhoods, and a legal system (ours) where many of the keymembers are much more interested in upward mobility and societal profilethan in "equal justice for all" as set out by our constitutionalforefathers. The readers of this book will close it with many lingeringthoughts! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A really good book for any kid! (...)
This is a really book. When I read it, I loved it. The little boy in the story just needed some attention. But his parents didn't give him that. He did a really stupid thing. He went and got his father's gun. He was late for school and he took it to gym. He was going through some bag things at home and at school. The best thing about this book is that you get to finish the book yourself. I would make Danny take the gun and go home and put it away. Then, I would make Danny go back to school and explain to everyone about the gun. He should go home and explain to parents too. He shouldn't even touch it.

This book reminded me that killing is really bad and guns too. You should not even think about stuff like that. Thank you Miss Peaches for another great story!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Story for all Students, Parents...and People
Peaches Smith's "Danny's Got a Gun" is an interactive story that tells the tale of a young student by the name of Danny who is full of pent up anger and after several months, decides to release this anger in a violent way towards people at his school. It is a stark reminder of what has happened in recent years and what can continue to happen unless we begin a discussion on violence in schools and getting children help before tragedy occurs.

The story is interactive because Smith leaves pages blank at the end and ask readers to imagine being someone who is in a situation where someone is threatening their lives. What do you do?Who are those people involved.Smith, through her book, makes her own attempt to help this dilemma, and I think she's done a commendable job at it.

Danny's Got a Gun is a story for students, parents, school officials, and authority to read, so that they all can be educated and realize that this epidemic will not end until discussion is brought forth.
