A very good account of events; tries to stick to facts
I came to this book as rather indifferent to Britney Spears, but with an interest in finding out about her story, having only been exposed to the most extreme gossip about her that got beyond the tabloids and made it into mainstream newspapers. I don't own any of her albums.

The book is most heavily focused on the earlier parts of her career and spends the most time there. The later years of her career are breezed through, but all of the highlights I remember hearing about on the radio from time to time were touched upon.

The book paints a sympathetic but seemingly-honest account of most events. It doesn't absolve her of blame but presents the environment and context in which certain events occurred, which was always missing from the sensationalist reports.

Some parts of the book were a bit thin, but I think this was done to mostly stick to the facts and what is known and to not indulge in too much speculation.

As another reviewer mentioned, this book turned me into a fan to some degree -- of the hard work, determination, and focus. It also made me somewhat sympathetic toward her situation and, while I can't understand her decisions, I can at least come to the conclusion that maybe I don't know enough about the psychology of the situation to empathize.

The book also provides yet another account of how fame and success can attract the wrong people to your vicinity, and how a voracious media can strip you of your privacy and deliberately seek to represent you as they want to and not in accordance with the truth of things.

It's very easy in life to have a preconceived notion about another human being; especially the able bodies who are constantly splashed across every tabloid magazine that's lining the check-out aisles.We either: A) Purchase the magazine eager to read the (usually false) information, and declare in as loud a voice as possible that we only buy it for the crossword puzzle; or, B) We put our noses in the air, "tsk-tsk" about the ridiculousness of these so-called "stars'" lives, and declare very loudly that we pray to God our child doesn't become an idiot like them.I am...just as human as the next person in line.Even though we all preach that we must keep an open mind, the constant bombardment of reality television, Entertainment Tonight happenings, and the myriad of magazines that offer this low-brow gossip takes us in until we choke on the so-called news.

I'm also a huge fan of this author.I've read Mr. Heard's other biographies and he has taught me a great deal about keeping an open mind and how the "star machine" has rolled over some of the kindest people in America, who are just looking for a little bit of help.Unfortunately, they are also in charge of keeping the "gravy chain" running along for all the people in their lives who sponge off their fame.Britney is no different, except for the very real fact that this was a little girl who simply wanted to achieve a dream - not unlike all of our own daughters, including mine.

The beginning is simply a story about a young family who work hard in their small town of McComb, Louisiana.Mom Spears is a stunning woman, who most people in town thought could make it in the movies because she was just that good-looking.When she had her daughter, she was absolutely excited that the Lord had blessed her with someone she could "dress up like a doll."Dad, too, worked a great deal - trying to support his family.Both parents struggled as they lived in a house that sat between the Baptist Church on one side and a local bar on the other.(I know, I know, but this is not a bad country song - this is real life.)

We follow Britney as she first becomes enchanted with singing.This young girl - again, like all the rest - sets up her stuffed animals in her room and sings to them.She also found herself an extremely good gymnast.She even teamed up for a time with Bela Karolyi, who brought Mary Lou Retton and Nadia Comaneci into the ultimate Olympic limelight.But Britney was like many children, when the sport became un-fun, it became painful, and she abandoned it immediately.The writer then brings us through the years of the New Mickey Mouse Club; the trials and tribulations of landing a NYC agent who gets her the understudy role in a Broadway play, and more.

We then move on to Justin Timberlake and his N'Sync pals, even finding out that Britney was once offered a part in a girl band at the time called Innosense, which she turned down.(I agree with her; if you're not the "star of the show" why bother, frankly.)When Baby One More Time hit MTV - Britney hit the world, and became just as recognized as her lifetime hero, Madonna.Her relationship with Timberlake was extremely elegant - yes, elegant - for kids that age.They were kind to each other in and out of the press, for the most part, and their appearances were always sweet and charming.The thing is...I actually think they were real, too.This first love - even though in the spotlight - wasn't tainted by "fake" feelings - it was really and truly a first love.

From Britney's horrific times of depression; quickie Las Vegas marriage; her foray into Kabbalah; best selling perfume to a not-so-great-ticket-selling movie, the author gives us all facets of this young girl who was forced to grow up way too fast.The weight that her mother laid on her shoulders was intolerable, as far as I'm concerned; and it doesn't surprise me that her post-partum depression led to passing out and shaving her head.If I were her, I would've went after MOM with the razor and taken her locks off.Perhaps Federline was a mistake, but to Britney, he wasn't - he was the one who gave her the two most beautiful sons in the world; and, for that alone, she can be proud.

In the end - the money belongs to her.She made it; she worked her behind off for it; and, it's disgusting when the people riding her coattails want to say THEY deserve a pierce of the pie.They don't.I hope Britney finds the redemption she's looking for, but mostly, I want her to be a good Mom who looks at her boys and supports their dreams with love, honor, wisdom, and kindness - something Britney lacked in her own life, she can make up for by making sure her own children are never...lost.

Great work Mr. Heard!You made me a Spears fan.Not the singing, perhaps, but definitely an admirer of her determination and sheer will.

The media can be cruel when reporting about a singer, movie star or even an athlete. Movie critics, book reviewers and photographers tend to invade the lives of the actors, authors and famous figures when they appear in public, or review their movies or books. Britney Spears has been under the microscope since the day she was born. Primed to become a singer and a star, encouraged by her mother, Lynne, Britney Spears life was never really private. There was always someone there to photograph her, rate her performance, compete against her or encourage her to continue being the perfectionist she has always was and still is. This brings me to my review of Britney Spears: Little Girl Lost by Christopher Heard. What a perfect title. To anyone that really has a heart and understands that people deserve second chances and should not be judged on past mistakes, the title fits, as I feel she never had a chance to really be a little girl and do the things little kids did.

From the minute she could get up and dance or sing, she performed in public and entered every competition and contest that her mother would bring her to. She won most everyone that she entered and competed in before the age of 8. Britney loved gymnastics too and was given every form of equipment to practice on in her home. Piano lessons, singing lessons and dancing lessons were her life early on, causing her to miss school and socializing with other children her own age.

Britney Spears's mother had goals that she set for her and expected her to reach them. With a father that was finding it hard to find work, the family began depending on her to support them. Becoming part of the Mickey Mouse Club, she became friends with many stars and her rise to stardom she hoped would not be far away. With the shows short-lived life and cancellation, she returned home to Kentwood to resume her life as a normal teenager. But, would her mother allow her to and what would her next career move be? Even forming a relationship with a friend of her brother, she dove into it with the same vigor as two adults starting a relationship. The relationship became too intense and when Reg went off to college and met other girls, Britney retaliated by dating other boys and making sure that he knew it


Britney did not handle rejection or disappointment very well. When she did not get a part or come on top she started analyzing what she did wrong and consider what her failings were instead of working on the many positive attributes that she had. Throughout the this biography I have not heard her parents use terms of love or endearment to her or ever say they were proud of her for all that she accomplished and might in the future.


Author Christopher Heard helps the reader to better understand the torment, turbulent relationships, the highs and lows of the career of a young woman who many counted on to make them rich and bring in the gold. Her relationship with Justin Timberlake, her mother's goals for her and constant push to rise to the top, and the endless tours she went on, often left her drained and feeling alone. Commercials, movies, awards, endorsements, videos and numerous albums and yet she never really found Britney, the real person. A heart of gold and blaming herself for her parent's debts, she paid them back and then some but not just with money but also by driving herself and pushing herself to meet what she thought she wanted and others expected of her. She became less of a human being and more of a marketable product.

Her life is like looking into a distorted mirror with all of the images out of place. Her relationship and marriage to Kevin Federline, her poor public image due to allegedly being accused of alcohol and drug abuse, her stint in rehab and more drove the public, the media and her support group to withdraw from her. Temper tantrums in public, hospitalizations, losing custody of her children and no one really understood why. Even her parents and doctors did stop and think about why her total personality was so erratic. As the author so aptly states," too many in Britney's inner and outer circles were content to overlook her suffering and obvious cries for help." This book is a must read for anyone that wants to learn more about what happens when stardom comes too fast, people take advantage of a young girl who just wanted to become a star.
Britney needs to fix that mirror and create a clearer picture. You don't have to please the world, you need to be who you are and that is just fine and deserve a big hug and congrats for your comeback. ... Read more

Interesting...
Knowing what I know now, I feel bad for her. You could tell by reading it that she was getting tired of it. It is a good book and an inside look to how her "life" was in the beginning. Just wish she would have backed out OR at least listened to what she had wrote about.

I just wish thatshe could sing...
The book is boring, and by buying it you are feeding the all time Hollywood mashine....and make more profit for Britney( does she need more money, than what she has? and still not happy?my suggestion she she should try an ordinary 8am-5pm job. Don`t waste your money. It is time for her to grow up.

to me it was sickening.

Well where do I start, Im more into science-fiction books then this kind of stuff but my friend was raving about it so i made my dad buy it on amazon for me (quick shipping as always) When the box got to my house i was a little aprehensive to open it (i mean this literally especially something from britney and her mom)

Well it started off about her perfect life, then how her mom was sooooo anoying and an embarressment. and bla bla bla bla and everyone seemed to have such wierd names god i cant even remember them but i know one started with MS or i think it did.

When i finished this book i wondered how britney got along with her mom because they seem to have it all wrong with the mother daughter bond andi wondered if they just made this book because they were bored (also found some errors on the way)

my conclussion is that this is the type of book you would burn with gasoline then put holy water on.

go through amazon (because of the large selection of books) and actuallybuy your money's worth.

A road full of speed bumps..

I finished this book in about 2 hours after getting it at the library. I had seen the TV movie "Brave New Girl", that is based on this book and had really liked it. Since I thought the movie was so good, I had high expectations for this book, and I was really let down.

Fourteen year old Holly Faye Lovell lives in Biscay Mississippi with her single mother Wanda Jo. Holly and Wanda have a very strong mother/daughter bond that is strengthen with Friday night viewings of the "Haverty Talent Hour", a talent show live from the prestigious Haverty School of Music. Holly's dream was to attend this school but she was afraid that the fancy school would not accept small town, low income students like her. Her dream suddenly becomes a reality when her boyfriend, Tyler Norwood, records her singing a solo at church. Tyler sends it in and in a few weeks, Haverty calls and requests an audition! After some waiting, Holly is accepted. She gets to Haverty and meets Lydia (or "Ditz" as she wishes to be called). "Ditz" opens up Holly to a whole new world that makes Holly realize how very thankful she is for herway of life. When Holly and "Ditz" visit Biscay for spring break, Wanda finally gets the courage to tell Holly a life changing secret. This secret leaves Holly upset and sorry for feeling resentment of her mother and her small town life and really shows her that she is A Mother's Gift.


This book was a bit boring at times and I was disappointed that it was very different from the TV movie. This book is a good read if you're a Britney Spears fan or you like light young adult novels. I would choose the movie over this book. The last two chapters really saved the book from dying a very slow and painful death. Skip the book, see the movie.

A great book
I think this book was amazing.I have always liked Britney Spears, so I picked up this book, not sure that I would like it.It is now one of my favorite books, among Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia.This book has a great story to it.I love the ending.I have not always been a great reader, but this book encouraged me to read more and more books.now I don't want to stop!

most people wouldn't give this book a chance simply because of the authors..

Then again, I READ it simply because of the authors, to see how badly they could do...

This book is the best book I have ever read. SERIOUSLY! It's wonderful. Beth Peters uses a great technique of writing to make it very interesting. It's not just a book that you sit down and read through. It's got quizzesabout Brit, facts (from her fave things to the address of where to get ascript of the play "Ruthless" that she stared in), andinformation on her former MMC stars and where they are now. In between allthat, it tells the story of super star, Britney Spears. Great Book
A brilliant book Crossraods starring Britney Spears made a smash hot in the theatres and in book stores.
Britney is struggling with a protective father who wants her to do what he feels is best for her.But when her and her childhood friends find eachother again and decide to take a road trip.thats whenthe journey begins.
"lucy" britney spears and her friends take a trip to California to discover their dreams.The book leads into many issues in todays teen world.Such as date rape, sex, and alcohol.
Overall the book is very well to read and has a awesome ending.

Cute, Funny and entertaining.... But leaves you wanting more
I didnt realize this book was so thin.... Its an ok book but dont expect too much writing.. it def leaves you wanting more... But then again im not a big britney fan my friend is so i just borrowed hers... I say if you like the movie and are looking for more get the DVD dont get this... its not worth it... unless you want to see pics of britney that repeat whats in the movie or find out what she learned about the camera on her day shoot... end result? keep your money

I loved this book.It's my favorite in my collection at home.I especially liked the pictures and the writing.Besides that, it also had good parts about britney and her life.I really feel closer to her after teading this.I wish that they included a section where she talked more about her music.I bought the britney spears doll at the mall near my house.She is definitely the best in the world.

Britney kept a diary during the fliming ofher #2 hit movie, "Crossroads." The flimed grossed over 75 million dollars worldwide and this book has basically some behind the scenes info. Good buy for Britney fans.

What is the publishing world coming to? What happened to good books and authors, such as Flannery O' Connor, V.C. Andrews, and William Faulkner? Sure, they're all dead and all, but what happened to all the good writers? Is it all coming to an end? How could trash by this gal be considered literature? If you liked the movie....
If you liked Crossroads the movie, you will love the book!The book is almost identical to the movie, but it goes deeper into the characters and story line which is nice.I found this book very interesting and could not put it down!For a fan of the movie i loved this book because it really develops the characters and plot well.

Crossroads
Crossroads is a great book and I would recommend this book to others. The author of the book is Jenny Markas. In the book Lucy, Mimi, Kit, and Ben went on a road trip to Los Angeles for a dance competition. I will read this book one hundred more times. That is how much I liked the book. I liked it because it was full of adventure.
I think the book started in an excited way because the first sentence of the first chapter besides the prologue said "I love to sing." I thought it would be exciting because I love to sing too. I don't think it contains action or suspense besides the part when they argue. I think the main character shows strength because before she leaves she doesn't tell her dad where she was going or when she will be back. I do think the book ends in a surprising way because Lucy's dad lets her stay and do the dance competition.
I think the author is trying to say that you shouldn't take off without telling anyone. I knew that when Lucy's dad woke up in the morning and found out that she wasn't there and he got worried that something happened to her. So do you think you want to read it now? ... Read more

Before It All Began...
Before K-Fed, before her striptease at the MTV Video Music Awards, there was the sweet Britney with the number 1 hit song "Baby One More Time". This little biography tells the story of Mrs. Spears up to the release of her first album "...Baby One More Time". Don't expect to see photos of her nude in Rolling Stone magazine, expect a sweet pic of her drinking an iced coffee and smiling at the camera. I bought this book when it was first released in 1999 and looking back at on it today, it's quite a nostalgic piece. The book is like all the other unauthorized bios on teen stars, and I'm sure it will be a nice little collector's item for Brit fanatics.

MUST HAVE!
This book is a must-have.It is really good for a unauthorized book alot of those books are not really good but this one is great!

This is the best book about Britney Spears that I have read so far. It iscompletely filled with tons of info on her! It's 128 pages of info on howshe got started, her love life, and even some stuff about how you can looklike Britney. There are some really pretty pictures in the middle of thebook as well. Awesome Book!
If you want to learn more about Britney Spears, this is a great book to read. The author did a great job writing about Britney, and I thought the parts about Britney's style were really cool. It's a biography, starting from her birth all the way to the release of Baby One More Time. I just loved the pictures, they were all awesome. You learn a lot about Britney! This book is a must for all Britney Spears fans!

Not worth the money...
My daughter loves to read & loves Britney Spears but this book was a big let down! It's a very small book with minimal writing on each page. I buy lots of books from Amazon.com but this is one I would definately not buy again! The author went skimpy on the workmanship to write this book. I would pass this one up, there are much better Britney books for sale.

More Like Britney Spears Rumors
This book is mostly made of rumors or news selections about Britney Spears. The book is in black and white and includes no pictures which was dissapointing. The book is good though, some of the facts/rumors I haven't ever heard about. The book it self is really small. It can fit in your pocket. The book was overall okay but it wasn't the best.

This book was ok
This was ok, it had some good pictures but I knew a lot of the information already. What got it three stars was the pics. Some of them were quite good ones that I hadn't seen before. Overall this book was boring except for the pics.

This is OK
This is not a very good book on Britney Spears. The information is "I already knew that" kind of stuff. Your best bet on Britney Spears books is her new book Heart to Heart that Britney co-wrote with her mother, Lynne.

This book is definitely the BEST book on Britney you can buy.It is full of facts and stories you cannot find in magazines or other books, and is really well written.It gives the full story of Britney's career so far,including the very early days when she was just a kid.A great book!

Completely Awesome
This is probably the oddest thing - but I am a grown man, and a newlywed.Despite that, I am terribly fond of Britney.I love everything she does.Everything she says.Just everything about her.This book captures everything there is to love about my Britney.Just reading this book makes me want to hug her.One of the things I did is I bought two copies.One just to read and to have, the other so I could make a collage for my office.I may even tell my wife how much I like this book and get one to make a collage at home.This is my favorite book of all time.If I could give it 6 stars I would.

This was a really cool book!
This was a really good book! It's got cool colour photos and quite abit of information about Britney! It was hard to put it down! It talksabout the Mickey Mouse Club,touring with nsync, and it even talks alittle bit about the mickey mouse club history.It even talks aboutBritney's brother and sister. It's full of lots of information aboutBritney and it even has a timeline and trivia questions and links toBritney sites and lots more! I recommend it for any Britney fan of anyage! Yo! This book had me reading for ages! I love this book it's really good! But in some stages it started to get abit boring because it's in the past.But if your a Britney lover it's a must have!

it should have been better.
If you are a die-hard britney fan you will be dissapointed.It is only 32 pgs. long and if you think you have seen all the photos of her there are about 3 child hood pictures that i have not seen and maybe you hav'ent seen ether.The dumb thing about this book [and all the books in the seris] you will come around big bold words and if you flip to the back there is a glossary! People could just look in the dictionary if they didn't know words like audience or manager instead of a britney spears bio!
The good books in this series:leonardo de caprio.
