3-0 out of 5 stars from a real Britney fan
I enjoyed this book because I love Britney, so I was really interested in this book from start to finish. The author gives interesting insight on Britney's mental health issues with the help of a psychologist. He also shed some light on Britney's home life and I appreciated a glimpse into the difficult home situation she grew up in. One thing that bugged me is the author made some basic mistakes such as confusing which songs were in which albums; they were just basic mistakes that any Britney fan would notice. After reading the book, I watched some of Britney's interviews/performances through the years on youtube and realized much of his information was simply regurgitated information you could easily find doing a youtube search. I think I was hoping for more of a personal touch - I understand he was unable to name most of his sources, but being unable to do so caused information to sound like heresay and less reliable. This book will give you an appreciation for the work Britney has done. Her behavior at times made me lose all respect for her and other times, feel sorry for her. In the end, I just wanted her to be safe and find healing... and obviously keep making music!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insight into the life of a phenominal woman.
I normally never buy biographies that are not written by or authorized by the celebrity, but this book seemed different. Not only did Steve Dennis sit down with a therapist and act as Britney from her childhood to her incredible comeback but he also got inside the tightest inner circle in Hollywood to get the truth from the people that have worked with Britney herself from her past and present. This book is truly one of the best Britney books I've read even better than ones written by Britney and her mom. From the very start it keeps your attention and gives a detailed account of Britney's life. this book is a must have for all Britney fans and anyone that wants to get an inside look in what happened on September 9th, 2007 the day many people will never forget... the 2007 Vmas. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Rare Insight
This is an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at the life of an American mega pop star.Go with Britney in both photos and video as she tackles the trials and tribulations of her everyday life at home and on the road.Brilliant footage of her 2002 tour of Mexico and all that must be endured in preparation for a major concert event, including conversations between Britney and her dancers, make-up artist, management as an approaching thunderstorm threatens the event.Rare insight that is a must for any fan of Britney Spears.Highly Recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good collectors item
Stages is a compulation of pictures that were taken of Britney in the height of her career. The over sized magazine pages and pictures are a great addition for collectors who desire Britney Spears memorabilia.Included in the illustration is a DVD pertaining to her time in Mexico, where she had to cut her concerts, due to poor weather. If most remember Mexico was upset with Britney for cutting her concerts. After seeing this, it's plain to see why she cut the concerts early.Over all a great collectors item. 4****

4-0 out of 5 stars Britney's coffee table book
This giant coffee table book retailed for 30.00 US dollars, so the Amazon used/new price is very good. The pictures are pretty good, but not phenomenal. Britney is so photogenic that anyone could have done just as well, if not better. Also contained in the book is little messages (to Britney) from Britney's friends and family. These are kind of interesting, because they give you an idea of "who Britney is", as told by her closest friends/family members.

If you buy the book, make sure you get the bonus DVD. I didn't find it as amazing as some of the other reviewers. I didn't like how they cut out just as things got interesting (such as when Britney is meeting with the tarrot card reader). However, there was some interesting moments, such as Britney's press conference with the Mexican media. I was amazed at how rude they were to her. They asked question's like "how much did you pay for your mansion", "can you get up and show us what your wearing; can we see you from behind" ?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Visual Book
This book is awesome, its full of amazing pictures that capture the real britney. Even if your not a britney fan you will still admire all of the awesome pictures. This is a must have for any die hard britney fan like myself.

Having amassed a fortune of over $100 million and record sales of forty million at the age of twenty-two, Britney Spears is the worlds biggest female star. This is the first biography to chronicle how the little girl, with a crucifix in each ear, has become the ultimate in tabloid fodder. Britney will follow her roller coaster life from her time on the Mickey Mouse Club, where she first met Justin Timberlake, to the moment she shot to fame and became the all-American pop princess. Somehow it all fell apartscarred by her break-up with Timberlake, roundly booed at the London premiere of her first film, the downward spiral culminated with her infamous fifty-five-hour Las Vegas marriage. Speculating on what an uncertain future holds for Mrs. Federline-Spears, Britney will be a gossipy and revealing biography of one of the most fascinating figures in pop. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Oops she did it again
this book was not worth the .01 cent plus shipping and handling that I paid for it.It was not an honest and in depth story of the girl but rather she is portrayed as some kind of angelic creature with no faults at all, the author almost proclaims her to be the Immaculate Conception. This book bored me so badly that I was no longer surprised that someone sold a pristine brand new looking hard cover book for 1 cent!

3-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS NOT BAD
SEAN SMITH DOES AN OK JOB WITH THIS BOOK. WE REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PERSON BRITNEY IS REALLY LIKE. WE READ THAT SHE IS POLITE, NOT A BIG EGO, A DRIVER AND VERY MIXED UP. TOO BAD MR SMITH DID NOT ADD MORE TO THIS BOOK AFTER BRITNEY REALLY WENT OVER THE CLIFF A FEW YEARS AGO. THE BOOK COVERS BRITNEY'S CAREER AND LIFE IN SOME DETAIL AND ADEQUATELY DOES THE JOB. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FOR FANS THAT DON'T KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT BRITNEY FOR MUCH OF THE INFO IN THIS BOOK HAS BEEN REHASHED. NOT FOR THE DIE HARD FANS OF BRITNEY.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
I LOVE this book. It is great for any Britney fan. Thisbookhasso many pictures of Britney in it, it's not even funny! Ithink this is worth the money.Itis agreat keepsakeitem.I look atmine all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book of Britney pics!
This book is awesome. It has all her pics and they're nice and glossy and colorful.Britney is my idol. You should really get this and that's all I have to say!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is not really a biography of Britney Spears, but rather a photo-filled, authorized look at the life and career of Britney Spears. It was written by Felicia Cullota, who travels with Britney whenever she is touring or going anywhere that involves music. So that means you'll find hundreds of beautiful, high-quality pics of Britney behind-the-scenes, from pics of her sleeping to pics of her getting ready for the American Music Awards.

There are also many fun facts about Britney sprinkled throughout the book, along with interesting tidbits and biographical information. This book is not a 48-page scrapbook with only about 50 pics- no, it's over 120 pages and features good-sized pictures on each page. Another plus is that this book isn't unauthorized, so all of its information is true. Many of the pics are never-before-seen, taken nearly everywhere Britney has been, from Canada to Monaco. The only negative of this book is that this book does not feature too many pictures of Britney performing, which I always love to look at! But I would still give this book five stars, especially because of the quality of the pictures and the length of the book. An excellent invesment to add to your collection of Britney Spears stuff!

I must say, I am impressed. This was an AWESOME book, from the first page to the last! OMG, these are some of the BEST pics of Britney ever! It was written by her friend, Felicia Culotta, who is Britney's personal chaperone who travels with her. These pictures all are private and have never been seen before! It is so cool, you feel like you personally know Britney from reading this super-cool book. Great job, Felicia, on a book well written!

5-0 out of 5 stars How do you feel about bass lines?
I got this book because I love the CD (I finally gave in to Miss Spears despite years of trying to resist her) and because I wanted to play 'Shadow' on the piano. Well, I was so happy to discover that the arrangement (of Shadow) is both simple (lots of similar chords and one note melody throughout the song) and pleasant-sounding.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for piano, voice and guitar
It amazes me that such a stiff artist as Britney Spears, could write such meaningful words and music, as she composes half of this marvelous album. What shoscks me more is thaT "In the Zone," an album i did not buy until shortly after recieveing this book for one of my students auditions, is funner to play than to listen to. There are some truely wonderful arrangemnets on here, and the fact is this book is not "Britney Spears." No one can say they hate it for the sole fact that they hate Britney Spears. I am not fan of the Pop princess, but i'll tell you something, the absolutely stunning arrangement of Everytime composed solely by Britney could put you to tears if played properly.
There is nothing i love more than good music, and i never thought i would say it, but Britney, you write some damn good music... It's just too bad that my favorite songs are the ones britney wrote that never went to single (save everytime), and it's too bad Britney will probably never get the credit she so whole heartedly deserves.
Don't hate her cuase she can't write music, hate her cause she is the cuase of all sexual steriotypes.

5-0 out of 5 stars well arranged, "In the Zone" is one fun play.
Britney Spears released "In the Zone" as a record, only finding lukewarm reviews. Yet, if you have a piano, you will find it impossible to stop playing these irresistable tunes.
Surprisingly arranged, In the Zone is sometimes funner to play than it is to listen to. Some of the bigger hits off the album are actually the least playable. "Toxic," "Me against the Music," and "(I got that) Boom Boom" are the biggest hits, yet the least complicated of arrangements, while "Outrageous" is barely sheet music. The best arrangements are surprisingly the "forgotten" songs off the new album, the best being an beautiful arrangement of "Everytime," and a delicate version of "Shadow."
Also the club ready "Breath on me," and "Touch of my hand" find great playablity. Jamacian flavored "The Hook up" plays well, while a bit repetative at times. "Showdown" and "Brave new girl" remain nearly as forgotten in this book as they do on the album, While "Early Morning" is a fun little piece that can be played with some jazzed up rhythm.
With great arrangments, "In the Zone" is one of the best popular music books out there. For fans it is a must, and for music lovers it is a need. ... Read more

Product Description

We all want our children to succeed. What happens when they do?

Britney Spears wanted to sing ever since she was a little girl. But the years of sacrifices, auditions, performances, albums, fame, and paparazzi left the little Louisiana family swept up and spun around, and nothing turned out the way anyone ever imagined or wanted. Now Lynne shares the inside story of the Spears family as only a mother can.

Through the Storm takes readers outside the narrow orbit of the Hollywood glitterati. Lynne shares how fame forever changed their family; her regrets letting managers, agents, and record companies direct the lives of her children; the challenges that shaped Lynne and Jamie's failed marriage and how they affected Bryan, Britney, and Jamie Lynn; the startling events that led to Britney's breakdown; the aftermath of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy; and how the family has tried pulling together to recapture a sense of hope and purpose.

Through the Storm, says Lynne, is "the story of one simple Southern woman whose family got caught in a tornado called fame, and who is still trying to sort through the debris scattered all over her life in the aftermath. It's who I am, warts and all, with some true confessions that took a long time to get up the nerve to discuss."

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
While this book was interesting, the writing was terrible. I think little editing or proofreading was done with this book. I feel like anyone with a basic knowledge of the english language could have written a book like this. The fact that Lynne Spears has a college education means there are no excuses for this kind of writing. However...

The story was heartfelt and moving at some points, although it breezed through quite a lot of topics that I would have liked to see expanded upon. I wish she would have talked a little less about herself and her marriage and more about the fame aspect of her life, since that is what the title leads you to expect. The fact that I am a fan of Britney is really the only reason I read this book. If you are also a fan of Britney, or even a fan of Jamie Lynn then this book will probably hold some interest for you. If not, then find something else to read. This book is poorly written and unless you have an interest in the Spears family, it holds no appeal for general readers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Heartfelt
I couldn't escape the constant headlines about Britney Spears. To my great shame, I'm sure I passed quick judgement on her as her life seemed to unravel before our eyes. I have to say I didn't follow the headlines closely, but it was impossible to ignore them altogether. I didn't know how I'd feel about this book. I actually didn't know much about Lynne Spears but it seems that she has earned quite a bad reputation for herself as a stage mother. I didn't know what this book would be about or if I I could believe it.

What I read was the account of a heartbroken mother whose private family life was shoved into the spotlight. As her daughters faced their own individual heartaches, they were offered up for public judgement. But in truth, each member of the Spears family is more than what was made available to us in tabloids. They each have their own full lives, flesh and blood people like the ones that surround us. This memoir is Lynne's attempt to pass something on about them and their family history and lives to her children.

It's an interesting read as most memoirs are detailing their family lives and Lynne's own struggles with her marriage, giving up her career for her children's, the loss of her family members (both parents and her sister), and the unexpectedness of what Britney's fame brought to them all. I couldn't always follow the parts about Britney, because I think it was assumed that the reader had obsessively read the tabloids. While I saw certain events reported, I must admit I tend to turn the channel when a particular celebrity (or politician!) is constanly in the headlines. I did understand that Lynne loves her children.

It did seem to me she was a bit naive about what fame would do their family and bring to her children, but at the end of the day, it's not my place to judge. This book is an excellent reminder that the people you see on television are real...and hopefully will give us all the ability to judge a little less.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the time
Through the Storm is the inside story of the family of Britney Spears, written by Lynne Spears, the mother. I heard there was going to be more to this book than it would appear, but There wasn't. It's not a bad book exactly, but it's just what you would expect. I don't think it's worth the time.

I'd prefer that this type of book wasn't written. More importantly, I wish that this type of book wasn't published by a Christian publishing house like Thomas Nelson. This is the type of book that used to make me cynical when I worked at a Christian book store. It feeds into our celebrity culture and to our shallowness. Don't get me wrong: I'm sure Lynne Spears is a wonderful person. But we are far too trite in wanting to read all the details of a celebrity family's life.

Michael Hyatt, publisher, gave four reasons why they chose to publish this book, and concluded, "I am proud that we published this book." I wish I hadn't have listened. The fact that I'm reviewing this book is also a cautionary tale for bloggers who choose to accept free books for review. Think before you accept.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved It <3
This Was Such A Good Book. I Am A Very Big Britney Spears Fan And It Nice To See Another Side Of The Story. She Is A Wonderful Mom And It Was Sad To Read At Some Parts But It Was Nice To See That Birtney's Family Tried To Stay By Here Side. All Family's Have Problems And Ups And Downs. Who Am I To Judge. She Loves Her Family And Stands By Them No Matter What And Thats All That Matters.

2-0 out of 5 stars Deep Fried Pop Stars
Ok, the only reason I read this book is because I am a self proclaimed tabloid junkie. There is nothing I like to do more than lounge on the couch on a Saturday morning with my tea, toast, and tabloid magazines sprawled about me so naturally an entire book filled with what I thought would be extraneous details of the fall of Britney Spears held instant appeal.Ugh...so wrong. So so so wrong.
There are three things I took away from this book: 1. Lynn Spears is miracle of modern science because as far as I can ascertain, the woman has two brain cells left, and they're fighting. 2. Through the Storm was originally meant to be titled "Southern Women Can Handle a Weapon: One Woman's Love Letters to the NRA". 3. Britney Spears and her siblings should be truly thankful that they are alive today, not because the fast life of LA go the better of them, but because, in the sweet tender words of her mother, when you live in the deep south, it is perfectly normal to bath your chilluns' in the crick with water moccasins, the legal driving age should be reduced to 12, and a well balanced meal can be found in a deep fat fryer and a pond full of crawdads.
Unbelievable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great reading for anyone interested in pop music
This book has a fresh quirky writing style that is intoxicating. In each chapter we are brought into the recording and sometimes television studios
to learn the subversive craft of selling culture to the youth. Fascinating
and insightful.rock history

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!!!
This is truly an amazing book.As a young kid in the 70's, I grew up on AM radio hits: The Osmonds, 1910 Fruitgum Company, The Archies, and so on.What I had no idea was that a majority of those groups were the brainchild of a producer and the recordings were made up of studio musicians.Half the time, no such band ever really existed. This book documents the different groups and songs, the successes and failures, and the product cross-marketing of all those hits that used to come through the radio (or on the 45 single that I'd buy with my allowance money). This is essentially a group of assembled essays and they are very well written.I feel like it's a pop (bubblegum) music history lesson. The interviews with the many people who contributed to the genre are also very informative.I honestly have to pull out this book periodically and read it cover to cover, it's that good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bubblegum
I haven't read it...it's a gift. A sadly overlooked area of music. At a time in ones life when everything is fresh and new,Bubblegum music is forever fondly,if jadedly, remembered.

The following is a copy of a letter I wrote to the editors of "Music Is the Naked Truth" - it says all I can say about the book:

I'd been looking forward to reading your book
"Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth" for several years
and finally got hold of copy and read it last month.

I felt like I needed to contact (you) the editors,
if only to express my major disappointment.

Your book is advertised as a dark history of bubblegum music
and I was looking forward to some sort of logical outline and
readable history of bubblegum (a type of music I don't know much about)

However, immediately upon reading the introduction and first few
tentative essays, I could see it was going to be rough going.

While planning the book, I'm sure you all thought it would be cute for
your contributors to use as many kooky and coy references
to gum, candy, sugar, sweets, etc as possible.

While delving into your book, initially the candy
references were annoying...then they became plain
excruciating... and then painful. The painful candy references
on almost every page made reading the book an almost impossible chore.
But I'd paid good money for it, so I struggled through all the "gooey,
chewy, yummy" references

Another glaring annoyance in "Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth"
is the fact that there are NO color photographs inside...and what photos you
do place in the book are all 2 X 2 inches and in gray-ish black and white

Oh, wait...I forgot...there IS a large forlorn photo of a Monkees lunch box...
...but why are all the other photos the size of large Puerto Rican postage stamps?

A book about bubblegum music without color photos is
beyond ridiculous. Something along the lines of a thick,
colorful, well-written glossy would have been preferable
and you may have sold a few more books.

I'm sure by now your book as become the "textbook"
on bubblegum music...however, it's clearly not.
And I'm sorry I paid money for it...and I would
feel guilty loaning it to friends or even donating
it to my local library.

Thanks for reading and better luck next time

5-0 out of 5 stars McDonalds Promo Rules!
This CD rocks! I am very lucky to the "thelastcinema", they gave me the product as described! *Cough Perfect! The song includes 8 songs two of which are remixes of "Bye Bye Bye" and "Oop!...I Did It Again." as for the other six, If you are a Britney Spears fan, may not like the Three songs of hers- Heart, Girl In The Mirror, and One Kiss From you. But the *N Sync songs were phenominal, especially, "If I'm Not The One" the other two are called "Are You Gonna Be There." great to sing to and is a nice ballad, while "I thought She Knew" is TOTALLY a capella, and some people might not enjoy. If you like Britney Spears and *N Sync this is a great pickup! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good unofficial book on Britney
This is informative with loads of great pictures and info on Britney. It is out of date now, but it's still very well made with GREAT pictures of Britney.
It has lots of cute little tidbits of information. It also includes a profile on Britney, and her favourite things.
The book is a bit out of date, but still good. It's a shame Britney is going down in history as being someone who was big for a few years and but then got unpopular because she ignored her fans. This is a nice book which shows Britney at the peak of her fame.

Britney Spears: Backstage Pass tells you the info on Britney. This book could use for meeting Britney backstage. A must for any Britney fan

2-0 out of 5 stars BackStage Pass Review
In my opinion if you are a fan of britney spears like myself thenyou already know all the information in the book and saw the pictures. This book is about her begining career. It is very outdated-it has all the brown hair britney's and is still talking about that Dawson's creek show that we now know will never happen. It talks about her hit song, and how she made it big. To me it was very weak, and was old. I would buy Britney Spears Heart to Heart or a different one that is more up to date with pictures, albulms, songs, appearences, and facts. To me this book was a waste and this is coming from a big fan. =0)

4-0 out of 5 stars This was great!
This book is the best unofficial book for Britney info. It told me everything I needed to know with great pictures. I'm a big Britney fan, so I need all the books that come out about her. This one is the best so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOTAL BACKSTAGE BOOK!
BRITNEY SPEARS:BACKSTAGE PASS IS GREAT!WHO EVER WROTE THAT THEY ARE GREAT . SOME OF THE PICS IN THERE YOU WILL NEVER SEE IN OTHER BOOKS,AND SOME OF THE FACTS ABOUT LIKE SHE HAD WAVY HAIR WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER MAKES YOU THINK SHE IS JUST LIKE US! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissappointed
I am dissappointed with this calendar. Like many other reviewers have said all there are no new images of Britney many are from the I Love Rock and Roll video shoot, and the others are from music videos as well. She does look nice in the pics but they are also all very similiar.

My biggest complaint about this calendar is that holidays are not labeled. I like calendars to tell me when it is a holiday such as President's Day so that I know if banks etc. will be closed. This calendar has no such labels so I have to look at my parents calendar for the info. It sounds like a trivial thing but I think it defeats the purpose of having a calendar.

Overall I'd say even if you're a huge fan of Britney like I am don't get this calendar. There are tons of better ones out there this year.

1-0 out of 5 stars You can get'em for a BUCK
Go to any Dollar store and they have lots of these calendars.I didn't even see them at Barnes and Noble this year.Says a lot for this fading chick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay...
The pics in the calendar are taken from the music videos from 2003? Anyway, I can say that she does looks good in it, but, it was just not good enough for me, because I would rather get a DVD of her (which I would probably not) music videos instead of getting a calendar of the same video. But maybe Britney fans should get it, because maybe they don't want to miss out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not that good
After Britney's 2004 calender was pure eye candy taken from the IN THE ZONE era, this year's is not as good. I like that it gives you some room to write in your dates, but the pictures are bad. Although Britney looks good one most of them, the pics are not new. Half of them are from 2002's I love rock'n'roll videoshoot and the other half is from August 2004. None of these are professional pictures. They're just images from her music videos. If you love Britney, even if her hair is covering her face on like 5 of the pictures, this calender is for you. ...
