Excerpt: "It Don't Come Easy" is a song released as an Apple Records single by Ringo Starr in April 1971, reaching number four in both the U.S. and UK singles charts. It was Starr's first solo single in the UK, but his second in the US (the first was "Beaucoups of Blues"), following the breakup of The Beatles. Starr reportedly composed the song in 1970. Decades later, he admitted that the song's producer George Harrison co-wrote the song (as he did with other hits such as "Photograph"). The released version included Harrison on guitar, Klaus Voorman on bass guitar, Stephen Stills, Ron Cattermole (brass), Badfinger members Pete Ham and Tom Evans performing background vocals, and Starr on drums and lead vocals. The B-side of the single, "Early 1970", featured Starr on acoustic guitar, piano, drums and vocals, with Harrison playing guitar, bass, and providing backing vocals. Its lyrics refer to the lives of The Beatles around the time of their breakup (hence, the title). Both tracks were produced by Harrison, and published by Startling Music. Recording of the new composition was begun on the evening of 18 February 1970 at Abbey Road's Studio 2, during the Sentimental Journey album sessions. Earlier in the day, Starr had re-recorded his vocals for "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and "Let the Rest of the World Go By", songs destined for Sentimental Journey. At this stage, the song was known as "You Gotta Pay Your Dues." On this first session, George Martin was producing, with Harrison playin...http://booksllc.net/?id=2425433 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960 and one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. From 1962 the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked in many genres ranging from folk rock to psychedelic pop, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as the "Beatlemania" fad, transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. Read more

Excerpt: Dynasty is a studio album by the American hard rock band Kiss. The album, and its subsequent tour, were billed as the "Return of Kiss." The band as a full unit had not released a studio album since 1977 and had not toured since the Spring of 1978. The album would restore the band to commercial prominence, reaching # 9 on the US Billboard album chart. Kiss enlisted Vini Poncia, who produced Peter Criss's solo album, to produce Dynasty. After pre-production and rehearsals were completed, Poncia decided to exclude Criss from most of the recording, judging him unable to drum well enough. Criss, by this time, had fallen deep into substance abuse and was also recovering from an automobile accident. He performed on only one song, "Dirty Livin'." The rest of the drums were recorded by Anton Fig, who played drums on Ace Frehley's 1978 solo album. The first single from the album, "I Was Made For Lovin' You," marked a rather drastic stylistic departure for Kiss. It had a pronounced disco beat, and was a success at a time when disco was at its peak popularity. After waiting nearly two years to record lead vocals for a Kiss song (1977's "Shock Me"and "Rocket Ride"), Ace Frehley contributed three to Dynasty - "2000 Man," "Hard Times" and "Save Your Love." "2000 Man," a cover of the 1967 Rolling Stones song, would become a concert staple for Kiss and one of Frehley's signature songs. "Hard Times" and "Save Your Love" were recorded in the same hard rock style as Frehley's solo album. This was the only Kiss album where Frehley sang as many songs as Paul Stanley and more th...http://booksllc.net/?id=2232365 ... Read more

Excerpt: Emotions in Motion is a rock album by Billy Squier that was released on July 23, 1982. It peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 album chart. It contains the hit song "Everybody Wants You", which peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and held at #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 6 weeks. Further Mainstream Rock hits and Hot 100 chartings from the album included "Learn How To Live" and "Emotions In Motion", and "She's A Runner" received rock radio play as well. Squier again wrote all the album's tracks himself. A concept album, Emotions in Motion is one of Billy Squier's most popular albums as well, certified Gold in September 1982 and Platinum album a month later. Though multi-platinum awards were not certified prior to late 1984, the album received a Double Platinum award in 1991. Emotions in Motion is Squier's second best selling album, after the previous year's Don't Say No. The cover art was created for Squier by Andy Warhol. Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor sing background on the title track , which was a Mainstream Rock hit. Squier began promoting this album opening for Queen, but by the end of his tour he was headlining an arena tour of his own. Like its predecessor, the album was produced by Squier with Reinhold Mack, who had produced Queen's The Game. Squier's recording of "Everybody Wants You" has recently been used in advertising for the USA Network TV Show Burn Notice, for the NBC TV series Chuck and for the series Sex and the City repeats and promos for...http://booksllc.net/?id=4588027 ... Excerpt: David Bowie (pronounced , ; born David Robert Jones, 8 January 1947) is an English musician, actor, record producer and arranger. Active in five decades of popular music and frequently reinventing his music and image, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He has been cited as an influence by many musicians and is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth of his work. Although he released an album (David Bowie) and several singles earlier, David Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in the autumn of 1969, when the song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era as the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. With an early five-piece line-up of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums), The Beatles built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg clubs over a three-year period from 1960. Sutcliffe left the group in 1961, and Best was replaced by Starr the following year. Moulded into a professional outfit by music store owner Brian Epstein after he offered to act as the group's manager, and with their mus...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=29812 ... Read more
