5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
This is an awesome book. There are few magic/fantacy books where the hero is a 12 or 13 year old girl. She has an annoying younger brother, which many kids can relate to. I have three boys, they all love M and all the rest of the books in the Pieces of the World Series. They are easier to read then the Harry Potter books, and a great book to read aloud to younger kids.

Very highly recommended! ... Read more

With the passing of the Cold War, a chapter in the history of nuclear deterrence has come to an end. Nuclear weapons remain, however, and nuclear deterrence will again be practiced.Rather than simply assume that the policy of deterrence has worked we need to learn the proper lessons from history in order to ensure that its mistakes are not repeated.Professor Lee furnishes us with the kind of analysis that will enable us to learn those lessons. This book is the first post Cold War assessment of nuclear deterrence. It provides a comprehensive normative understanding of nuclear deterrence policy, examining both its ethical and strategic dimensions. The book poses the question: What kind of nuclear policy, if any, deserves both moral and prudential endorsement? ... This is a difficult book for a lay reader to follow, but it is the best account of the moral issues surrounding nuclear weapons.Steven Lee, a professor of philosophy at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, did anoutstanding job in explaining in great detail the moral paradoxes andpuzzles involving nuclear weapons.I wish this book would have beenpublished in the early 1980s, in the height of the Cold War, the periodwhen its author got the impulse and momentum for his project.Ironically, many of the arguments lost their political relevancy after the Cold War. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars WAY TO HARD TO GET!
If you see it on stock, you must buy it! Believe me, these are too expensive and too exclusive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not As good as the others
I read the original Street fighter series (3 comic books) Udon published and was very pleases. This book however is amateur at best. Considering Udon usually draws very good the drawing in this book are awful. They even shoveled in some artists that didn't draw the original comic. The result is that the art varies in style every 2 or 3 pages and looks bad. The story is just a couple of things taken from the actual games (like the SF2 fight between Ryu and Sagat) so you won't be surprised. Sorry but I can't recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
It was an okay book I wish it would have continued the story but hey. Its a good buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Vol 4 is just ok, lousy at times.
Volume 4 is just ok.It is lousy at times. Some of the artwork is similar to that of Vol 1 to 3, but some of the artwork is weird and wacky, and although it is nice as an artform, it takes away from the story itself. The writing is the same as the other volumes since it is the same author/writer.The stories in here are 2 to 4 pages in length, very short. There are a lot of short stories. It kind of fills in the gaps, but in a lousy very quick way.The stories could have been longer. The art bothered me and so did the stories.I was happy with my Vol 1, 2, and 3 purchases, but I wish I could return this for a refund.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR STREET FIGHTER FANS!
This is a great graphic novel for all who love graphic novels and for Street Fighter fans especially. This one really sums up the last 3 novels in short detail, but has some new revealing information regarding the characters backgrounds.Cant wait for the next volume!

I recommend the whole Street Fighter series as I rate the whole series 11 stars out of 10. ... Read more

Product Description

This edited collection traces the social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions of Korea’s dramatic transformation since the late nineteenth century. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the chapters examine the internal and external forces which facilitated the transition towards industrial capitalism in Korea, the consequences and impact of social change, and the ways in which Korean tradition continues to inform and influence contemporary South Korean society.

Transformations in Twentieth Century Korea employs a thematic structure to discuss the interrelated elements of Korea’s modernization within agriculture, business and the economy, the state, ideology and culture, and gender and the family. The essays in this volume encompass the Choson dynasty, the colonial period, and postcolonial Korea. Collectively, they provide us with an original and innovative approach to the study of modern Korea, and show how knowledge of the country’s past is critical to understanding contemporary Korean society.

With contributions from a number of prominent international scholars within sociology, economics, history, and political science, Transformations in Twentieth Century Korea incorporates a global framework of historical narrative, ideology and culture, and statistical and economic analysis to further our understanding of Korea’s evolution towards modernity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent volume that is LONG overdue.
There is a plethora of literature on South Korea's meteoric economic development, however most of it is quite dated. The significance of this volume is that most valuable thing - hindsight!Written after South Korea's full and faster-than-expected recovery from the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis (as well as, of course, the other economic crises before it), this volume undoubtedly provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive views from the world's eminent scholars. These are the individuals who have read and often themselves authored past scholarly literature on the topic based on extensive research and available data at the respective time, and it is about time this was published to reflect the changes, hindsight, and new knowledge.

As far as the physical book goes, it is part of a really nicely produced series published by Routledge with special smooth matte-finish cover, high-quality bright white paper (I hate yellowish paper), and impeccable printing.

Definitely a MUST-HAVE for any advanced academic library.Hopefully they will make available a less pricey paperback version, as this is astronomically expensive for personal ownership!Highly recommended for majors, graduate students, and scholars, writers, economists, policymakers, etc. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Superb book, a must have at every managers desk

4-0 out of 5 stars Successful Manager's Handbook
Items were shipped promptly, and received in good condition.I wouldn't hesitate to order through Amazon.com again, and was pleased with each merchant from whom I received orders.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Useful Management Book Around
With a thorough examination of the issues a business faces, this book is as close as it comes to distilling a complete MBA degree into a single useful book.

The book breaks the critical areas of business into four basic areas: Thought Leadership, Results Leadership, People Leadership, and Self Leadership. In addition it breaks down those four areas into nine core factors that determine business success. These core factors include Strategy, Judgment, Business Knowledge, Planning and Execution, Motivation and Courage, Leadership, Interpersonal, Communication, and Self-Management.

The organization of the information was logical and useful. Some of the subjects covered include Strategic Advantage, Customer Loyalty, Sound Judgment, Thinking Strategically, Applying Expertise, Managing Technology, Planning, Managing Change, Influence, Coaching and Developing Others, Building Relationships, Managing Conflict and many, many others.

This is by far the most thorough and useful single reference book on managing that I have ever come across. For ease of use it can't be beat with each section having it's own introduction and a list of the most valuable tips in that section. Then to make it even more useful, at the end of the book is a listing of resources by chapter. These resources include available books and seminars that relate directly to the items in that chapter.

If you are involved in business management pick up a copy of this book and keep it close at hand you will find yourself referring to it often.

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and Dry Dry Dry
This book is so dry I'm choking from the dust. Oh man what a miserable read! Where are the diagrams you would expect to find in a typical book on management. I feel sorry for the Southwest Airlines employees who were forced to use this book as a text. I learned nothing from this book. It's supposed to make you a successful manager, and help you rise to the top.Well, you know they say human waste always floats to the top...and this book was a waste of my money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read this if you are not a dummy or an idiot
A serious book that covers the entire scope of good management practices. No cutesy language, and definitely neither for dummies nor idiots. The first few pages on goal setting and the model they provide alone are worth the price of the book. I actually started reading the book backwards. The chapters are self contained and well written.

That said, the book suffers a certain dryness in delivery. What would enliven it and make the content easy to remember is well placed diagrams. I do not mean the kind of useless icons one finds in Dummies books, but serious business oriented diagrams that visualize the concepts.

You buy yourself a great education in managing when you buy this book. You will not become a manager by reading the book; but if you are already a manager you can be a great one. ... Read more
