3-0 out of 5 stars wedding planner
Product arrived very quickly. Was a very old addition of the book. But service was great and the book was in good condition. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good book!
I agree that some of the photos are dated, but the content of the book remains current and extremely helpful.Being a published author myself, I know how hard it is to make editorial changes, so don't discount the book just because it has dated photos. There were many things I might have forgotten if I hadn't written them in my planner -- just the kind of little things that might ruin a perfect wedding day!No wedding planner book will have it all -- this one has the most.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Memory Book!
Ok - so not all of us can have a "Martha" type wedding...However, a lot of her ideas were extremely helpful in that they helped me decide what I did and did not want for our wedding. It also helped me stay completely organized; I could go back to my Planner and see what someone quoted me, or when payment was due on anything. This book compliments her "Weddings" book, which also has great recipes in it.I have also given this book to my girlfriends who are getting married -- they love it too.Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ideas!
Although I was not having the "traditional" wedding, Martha Stewart's Wedding Planner was a great help!My mother used a wedding planner book, and this was the best one we could find. Some of the items were not applicable, but the basic ideas were, and it really helped me stay organized. No pockets in ANY wedding planner book would be big enough for all quotes, so don't be turned off by that.My mother and I had a great time filling out the pages -- I really liked the book.I suggest you buy it even if you're having a wedding at home...because you'll have all those memories in that special book of your special day.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what you would expect from Martha
I bought this wedding planner as soon as I started planning my wedding coming this September.I thought, due to Martha always seeming so organized, that her planner would be a good choice.I was terribly disappointed. The pictures are from the eighties, there is not enough room in the pockets (mine is bulging at the seams), and there is not enough room to write in your entire bridal party. Also, I wish there was a calendar in the standard format. There is only one that goes line by line for six months before.I had to staple one of those cards from Hallmark with a calendar on in the inside.I am here now to shop for a new planner. Please, save your money and don't buy this! ... Product Description
She's back -- with hundreds of impossible, uncomfortable and frequently physically painful ideas to turn a perfectly lovely wedding into a perfectly controlled disaster.

Observe from the safety of your living room as Martha demands, insists, berates, accuses, but, above all, controls everything and everyone in sight. This final (we promise) installment of the Martha Stuart parody trilogy confidently answers the question "Isn't everything sacred?" with a well-aimed kick to the shins!

By the authors of the perennial bestsellers Is Martha Stuart Living? and Martha Stuart's Better Than You at Entertaining.

Amazon.com Review
In this, the third and final (?) installment of the Martha Stuart parodytrilogy, authors Tom Connor and Jim Downey unleash their preppydoppelganger on weddings. The results are predictably hysterical, with theStepford caterer dominating every aspect of a Connecticut nuptial. Thisfrom the "Wedding Planner" (subtitled "Things I Insist You Remember"):
Five Years Before: set season and weekend; Indenture Third Worldseamstresses; finish hybriding rose named after yourself...

One Year Before: Draft pre-nuptials; book me as caterer; if you havefavorite foods or family recipes that you might want to incorporate, forgetabout them...

Six Months Before: Learn fiancé's name; try one last time for Beatlesreunion; stop calling me...

As you can see from this passage, Connor and Downey have perfected thevoice of their monstrous Martha. Every page yields good fun at theexpense of the Octopus of Style, while pointing to the insane, expensive, neurotic process of getting married in this day and age. Even better areBarry O'Rourke's photos, which reproduce Martha's sumptuous booksexactly. Put the writing and the photos together, and you have a well-executedparody. If the jokes aren't new by the third time around, that won't matter to the harried bride or the hopeless husband-to-be; if you'veever planned a wedding or are in the middle of nuptial hell right now, this book is perfect. "Today, there are a multitude of alternatethrowables. Rock candy is particularly painful. Fava beans have a veryunpredictable flight path. And kidney beans can be easily confused with aswarm of stinging bees..." --Michael Gerber ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious stress-relief during wedding planning
I wasn't expecting too much from this book, but between the unexpected stress of my simple wedding and my true awe/suspicion of Martha Stewart's abilities, it just struck a chord (particularly the segment about silverware).I would highly recommend this book for any wedding party that is finding stress in the most insignificant aspects of their wedding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just fantastic!
This is one of the most fun books to pass around when your friends are over. It's great for humorus wedding gifts, showers and the like.Martha may not be quite the tower of perfection she once was, but sometimes it's fun to kick at (in this case, a formerly 'hot') dog when she's down.No harm done - lots of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars It could be the real thing.
Uhh....it's almost TOO well done!!!The subtlety, the sarcasm.Martha herself would be proud of the ideas and craft concepts presented. You will find yourself laughing out loud. Fits perfectly on my coffee table next to my real "Living" magazines. HAHAHAHAHAHA

5-0 out of 5 stars hilarious!
A friend bought this book for me as a joke because i like Martha Stewart so much. it is incredibly funny!its just like her magazine and books. id reccomend this book to anyone who either thinks martha is too much or lovesher!id rate this book 5 "ha ha's"

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect comic relief for any bride-to-be!
This book is hillarious! It isn't written by the REAL Martha Stewart-it's a parody of her work.I loved the part where the bridemaids' dressesare purposely ordered several sizes too small :) Refreshing and a welcomerelief from the weight of wedding planning, I think every bride-to-beshould have a copy of this to see her through the most difficult stages ofpre-wedding chaos.Even if you're not a bride, I'm sure anyone can relateto the comic situations that are so wonderfully illustrated and laughed at.:) ... Product Description
Bring the world of color into your home. Decorating with Color, the latest from the editors of Martha Stewart Living , features eleven color palettes inspired by nature and everyday objects. Within each palette, whether honeycomb, sea glass, lustreware, or melon, you will discover how to create comfortable, inviting rooms that shelter and soothe.

Color can be intimidating. Many of us rely on neutrals, unsure of how to combine stronger colors without having them clash. Yet for Martha Stewart, a house is not a home until it is filled with color. In Decorating with Color, Martha and the editors of Martha Stewart Living share the lessons they have learned over years of decorating hundreds of spaces. In some cases, changing the look of a room may be as simple as painting the inside of a kitchen cabinet blue or displaying a collection of sunny yellow pitchers atop a dark chest of drawers. Or you might choose a lively green for the bedroom walls but keep the fabrics and furniture understated. The eleven palettes in this book will help you recognize the colors and textures that add up to beautiful, cohesive rooms. In each chapter, you will find examples of paint chips, fabric swatches, and simple, stylish projects to inspire you whenever you decorate. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good color guide
This book is a good guide for putting together colors for decorating a home. The only thing I would have preferred is the colors of the actual paints used in the book.It would be nice to be able to reproduce the actual colors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soothing Simplicity with Style
Rich, velvety chocolate, beach glass, jonquils, blue skies, cotton candy, silver spoons, lavender sachets and seashells---if these are the images that bring you joy then this is the book you should you shouldn't be without when making your color choices. If you oooh and ahh over Pottery Barn catalogs, then you have pretty good idea already of what to expect from the color choices within this book--serenity.

Previous reviews on this book have taken me by suprise!

If you don't like earth tones and colors picked from nature, then this is absolutely not the book for you. The cover is a CLEAR indicator of what is within so how people purchased this book and found themselves suprised by it's contents is beyond me.

If you desire serene, rich color with monochromatic tones and eye catching contrasts that don't pop your eyeballs then this book is a must have.

Martha only explains the importance of subtle contrast and color placement with regard to depth and space, but the information contained within is crucial to developing a smooth finish and painting with results that rival that of professionalism. This book is so much more than a "look at me and my shocking photographs" that you might find in other books aimed at color.

While Martha has always favored greens and yellows in her work, this book explores use of blues, greys, pinks and even lavender with silver. The results are soothing, restful rooms that tantilize the eyes without tiring them.

It's a smart, easy-to-use design instruction that reads well and produces even better results.

Martha's paint colors are available at Kmart, Sears, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Fine Paints of Europe. This means that if you like the colors within this book, regardless of your budget, you will be sure to find a match at a local paint store near you. That's an added bonus that I've found priceless!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, Better than "Decorating Details"
Martha Stewart's "Decorating with Color" is a wonderful book to help you choose and match colors with the color wheel in mind.I love her overall monochromatic color schemes with an accent color thrown in from the opposite end of the color wheel.I subscribe to her magazines, and while these ideas are featured there as well, it's nice to have them all in one book.I liked this book more than "Decorating Details."Another good decorating book is "Instant Impact" - in my opinion the best of the Trading Spaces books.

2-0 out of 5 stars hnnnnngh... just subscribe to her magazines.
please, if you regularly buy martha stewart living magazines, DON'T bother buying this book. unless of course you want to see more of the same, but packaged altogether with nice binding and a deceptively original cover. it's not even actually "more" of the same, but actually "the same" -- this is a compilation of reproductions, old stuff that was published over the years. not too fresh, and particularly aggravating to someone who's a subscriber.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved It!
My husband and I are at the tail end of redecorating our house and this book came out just in time to help me plan the color scheme for our sunroom (I love the celadon color scheme).I only wish I'd had this book before decorating my other rooms. (I keep looking at my white ceilings now and wishing I'd painted them a color!)Anyone who loves the sophisticated understated monotone color schemes that are one of Martha's trademarks will find this "best of" book a useful addition to their decorating collection. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes
I just bought this book and tried two recipes this weekend, an endive salad with pears and gorgonzola and the minestrone soup. Both were delicious and fool proof, and I can't wait to start trying more. There's a large variety of recipes that covers entire meals with plenty suggestions to use seasonal ingredients. There are recipes for classics and new dishes, from simple to elaborate and elegant. There's not a picture of everything (unfortunately), but the pictures present are very inspiring. Paper quality could have been better, but I'm still thrilled with this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I Expected
I liked the 2002 book better, but this one is great, too. Tried some of the recipes, and no problems there. The recipes range from simple to extravagant and there's something for any occasion or taste. Also a beautiful book to add to a cookbook collection. This book has convenient conversion chart in the back unlike last year.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my most utilized cookbooks
This cookbooks provides you with the recipes from the entire year of Marta Stewart Living magazines.Since I have used many of those recipes from her magazine, I found having them all compiled in one volume much more convenient (even though I have every issue the book covers).

For rave reviews, try the guacamole recipe. It is by far the top requested item for me to bring to a gathering!

Overall, a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars JOY of COOKING for the New Millennium
This cookbook's tantalizing recipes and mouthwatering photos are irresistable. It even inspired my husband to cook something other than linguine for the first time.Last night, he successfully followed the recipe for mint and pistachio leg of lamb and it was flawless.Thank you Martha for bringing divine meals from another universe to our home in this gorgeous andaccessible cookbook .It has everything I could ever want to eat and hopefully everything my husband wants to cook!Tonight, cornflake-encrusted chicken!

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me
I tried to prepare a few dinners using this and the meals tasted lousy.I think she lost her touch due to her ethical and legal problems. There are better boooks out there. ... Read more

Recipe from the SoNo Baking Company Cookbook: Ginger Cookies

Makes 60

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup sugar, plus 1/2 cup for rolling
3/4 cup (1 1/2sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 large egg, at room temperature
1/4 cup unsulfured molasses

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger; set aside.

2. In the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the sugar and butter on medium speed until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl halfway through. Beat in the egg and molasses until combined. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, beating until combined. Transfer the dough to a clean bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until well chilled, about 1 hour (and up to 24 hours).

3. Arrange the oven rack in the middle position. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or nonstick silicone baking mats; set aside. Place the extra sugar for rolling on a plate; set aside.

4. Use a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop to scoop out the dough, and roll into balls between your hands. Roll the balls in the sugar to coat, and place about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

5. Bake one sheet at a time, rotating the sheet two-thirds of the way through the baking time, until the cookies are deep golden brown and the centers are firm, 15 to 20 minutes.

6. Transfer the sheet to a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. Use a spatula to transfer the cookies to the rack, and let cool completely. Continue to roll and bake the remaining cookies in the same way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, perfect recipes so far !!
So far I have only tried two relatively easy recipes, the lemon drop cookies and the chive and cheese scones, but both turned out perfect !! Delicate taste and texture, can't wait to try more recipes ! The book has beautiful pictures also, though I wish all recipes had pictures, as being from South America, there are cases where I'm not sure what the pastry should look like. Anyway, it's worth the money !!! ... Read more

Product Description
From America’s preeminent museum collection, this definitive volume places the quilt firmly in the realm of art. Combining economy with artistry and everyday craftsmanship with extraordinary beauty, quilts hold a unique place in American culture. Each quilt tells a story about its maker and her community; seen together, these monumental textiles paint a broad picture of the development of a national character and uncover the hidden history of women’s contribution to art. This volume brings together the two hundred most important examples from the esteemed collection of the American Folk Art Museum, many of which are shown here for the first time. Each masterpiece was chosen carefully as an emblem of its time, style, and technique. Concise texts introducing each chapter remain entirely accessible in tone and never intrude upon the full-page image reproductions and countless detail enlargements that reveal the intricate stitching and surprising dimensionality of the works. ... If find yourself wishing that photographs of antique quilts were larger so you could see the detail, this book is for you.I languished over pictures I have seen in other books.Well documented with photos and descriptions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem for Vintage Quilt Lovers
If you treasure old quilts and have a library of books on them -- you know who you are -- just go ahead and buy this volume now. Or put it on your Christmas wish list for sure.
The American Folk Art Museum has one of the country's fine quilt collections and this is finally a book that does the collection justice. Featured here are about 200 absolute masterpieces in full color, high-quality photographs. There are fantastic applique quilts, wonderful very early stuff, and some awesome Amish quilts.
My only quibble with this fine book is that there is so little text and background. I can understand that there may be many mysteries about who made many of these quilts and why, but I would have loved to hear more, in the cases where it was available.
This book will be a classic for years, no decade, to come, so don't hesitate to snap it up.The last volume on the museum's collection, which came out in the late '90s, is out of print.
One other note: the museum has declared this the "Year of the Quilt," and many of these masterpieces will be on view at the museum in Manhattan, in several shows at several locations starting Oct. 5, 2010. ... Read more

Well done and illustrated, these are features from the early days of the magazine.I can personally vouch for the pear bread pudding and the torta di riso--a lot of work but like a lot of things, WELL worth the effort. I don't know if I could do all of those things at once for one activity, especially the wedding at home. But in addition to all the recipes and chapters, it's idea-inspiring.Which is what Martha is all about (that, and the stock market!)
