Product Description
Many young actors and actresses get their start in show business because of whom they know. But Julia Stiles didn't know anyone. She got her first big break all by herself.

Born and raised in an area of New York City called SoHo, Julia loved to act out scenes from her favorite movies and TV shows. Her parents encouraged such creative expression. They sent her to dance lessons and acting classes. From the time she was twelve, she performed in off-Broadway productions.

Julia has since made a name for herself starring in controversial films. Several of her movies have been about interracial dating and some contain teen violence. Though she is still young, she has appeared in more than 15 films and has dreams of directing future movies. Here is the story of one of the up-and-coming young actresses in Hollywood. ... Product Description
10 Things I Hate About You is a 1999 American romantic comedy film. It is directed by Gil Junger and stars Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz, and Larry Miller. A loose adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew set in a modern American high school, the screenplay was written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith. The film's title is a reference to a poem written by the film's female lead to describe her bittersweet romance with the male lead. The film was released March 31, 1999, and it was a breakout success for stars Stiles and Ledger. The film marks the directing debut of Junger. ... Read more

Product Description
A complete drama course for kids in a book. BREAK A LEG! teaches budding thespians everything they need to know about stagecraft and the production of performances, in home or out.

Illustrated throughout with informative how-to and candid shots of young working actors, BREAK A LEG! is as comprehensive as it is high-spirited. There are sections on body preparation, including warm-ups, stretches, and breathing exercises. Theater games, improv, miming, and other fun ways to develop technique. Important acting skills, such as voice projection, crying on command, learning accents, and staging falls and fights without getting hurt. The performance: analyzing scripts, building a character, what to expect from rehearsals, and overcoming stagefright. A backstage look at blocking, lighting, and other technical aspects of theater production. And for the fun of costumes and make-up, a 16-page color insert. In addition, it covers legends and lore (Why is Macbeth cursed? Why do we say "break a leg"?) and offers dozens of must-see movie recommendations. Plus, for the ambitious, talented, and just plain curious, there's advice on how to make a career of it all, with tips on agents and auditions and getting jobs in theater, film, TV, and radio. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Full of good information and well written
I bought this book to gain new ideas for a drama class which I teach. This book is written for kids that are interested in a career in acting, but I have found some really great information and ideas that I can use as a drama teacher and I am also going to encourage my students to read parts of this book!It is very well laid out, starting with the basics of the acting craft and then building all the way into an explanation of how to get started in the industry. All along the way, the main text is highlighted by quotes from real child actors as well as interesting side notes on various subjects. As someone who has been acting in community and professional theater since I was four years old, I was surprised at the amount of information in this book that was either new to me or written in such a way as to make me totally re-think things which I already knew. I would definitely recommend this book to any child interested in acting, parent of a child interested in acting or drama teacher who works with children.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great gift!
My youngest niece is a big movie buff, and has a dream to be in one someday. She LOVED getting this...

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun book
A good book to supplement our middle school homeschooling.Fun activities, and it's easy for kids to understand and self-propel through the book.I also teach an arts camp during summer and spring breaks, and I will be using the activities there, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook for kids
I've used this book for two years with my 5th-6th grade acting students that I had once a week. It's an easy read for them, but it explains things so clearly. We focused on a chapter a month throughout the year. Many of the games, exercises, and warm-ups I had already written into my syllabus so the book just reinforced everything they were studying. If there were any questions we could refer to the book.I added a few more things of my own while doing brief theatre history things. This book covers everything basic in acting as well as technical aspects and even a chapter on auditioning. The kids really seemed to enjoy it and it led to some good discussions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo!
What a great book! If you do theatre with kids, this is a great resource. The engaging format draws young readers into the text, has lots of excellent pictures, and provides sections about all aspects of theatrical production, including design and technical theatre. We do Shakespeare with 6th graders and have found this book to be a gold mine of activities and information for theatre kids and adults. Bravissimo! ... Read more
