Product Description
From acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee,
a dark vision of the beast that lives inside the man . . .

In a Berkeley lab, Bruce Banner, a young man haunted by his murky past and the parents he never knew, works intensely day and night. A bright scientist with repressed emotions and few social skills, Bruce and his colleague, the sharp and beautiful Betty Ross, experiment with the body’s ability to repair itself and fight disease. But their research draws unwanted attention. For the power of regeneration catches the eye of the military, which sees its potential on the battlefields of the future.

But when Bruce is exposed to radiation in an accident that should have killed him, a ferocious truth about his past begins to emerge—along with something else, something deep inside his own body that is triggered when he is provoked . . . when he is pushed beyond reason . . . when anger takes over and he transforms into . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than The Movie
This book is alot better than the film it's self. I can't believe the book is alot better than the movie. Peter David does such a great job on this book that it's not hard not to like it. I recomend This book

If you liked this book, check out the movie, soundtrack and video game

4-0 out of 5 stars Hulk Smash(ing)
I bought this book at an airport and, after seeing the fil, did not have very high hopes but i was desperate so i bought it.

After finishing the book I'd packed i reluctantly turned to the novelisation and i found myself reading more than i intended to each day.

The plot seemed to make more sense and i found myself caring more about the characters than in the movie.

Nothing against the movie - i loved it but once you've seen something you've seen it right? - WRONG! Reading Hulk i realised how wrong i was.

I have now decided that novelisations of movies are great idea and have read Spider-Man, Daredevil and i intend to read LXG and X-Men...

...Mow if i could just find X-Men 2 then that would be great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Hey, Better Than The Actual Movie!
I was very disappointed with HULK, mainly because there were numerous aspects of the movie that I just didn't understand at all.So, I thought reading the novelization would help me figure some of it out.Well, it worked, and now I believe the book pulled it off better than the actual film!

For one thing, in the movie it was often hard to figure out what the characters were feeling. The book, thankfully, fixes all that, and I found myself absolutely riveted reading it.Also, the way certain events play out in the novel are much, much better than in the film (especially the ending, which still remains a bit of an anticlimactic mess, but is much better than the version in the movie).Notice, the changes are minimal throughout, but they quite often make a surprisingly large difference.

But the best part of the book was how vividly author Peter David wrote the mind of the Hulk. While in the movie we saw none of this, and the Green Goliath was anything but dramatic, here we see lots of things from his point of view.Though simplistically written, that is perhaps why these portions are so fascinating and intriguing.David spent many years writing for The Incredible Hulk, and it shows.

The one thing I liked better about the film, however, was the action.Though David wrote it as well as anyone could have, I srongly believe that all action scenes work better on film, especially those of HULK.

HULK is still far from a great story, movie or book.I just can't wait for the obligatory sequal, which will hopefully tie up a lot of loose ends, make a lot more stuff clearer, and overall make up for the entire first installment.

3-0 out of 5 stars SMASH the anger!
Peter David, the acclaimed comic book writer that revitalized The Hulk, adapts the maligned movie into a decent novel. The Hulk takes its sweet time showing up, but the characters and their backstories are well drawn enough to make the wait worthwhile. There are some minor changes in character and motivation, especially in regards to Glen Talbot, and, for the most part, it helps the story more than hinders it (though there are a few narrative wrinkles that another rewrite could have ironed out). Not a bad book at all, fans will certainly enjoy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars yes, surprisingly good
I've read a few movie to book novels including the star wars books (minus AOTC) and X-men. this one by far surpasses them. I was a bit wary of it but the style was wonderful and was written to tell the characters thought and feelings. It shows more of the Hulk's feelings and of Bruce's feelings. There is also a few parts that weren't in the movie such as info about Bruce's adoptive mother and info on Glen and Betty. The narration is omniscent and revolves mostly on the character's thoughts/feelings but never is boring. I would strongly recomend this book to anyone who liked the movie or anyone who thought the movie was lacking. ... Read more

TREASURE MOUNTAIN

In Treasure Mountain, Louis L’Amour delivers a robust story of two brothers searching to learn the fate of their missing father—and finding themselves in a struggle just to stay alive.

Orrin and Tell Sackett had come to exotic New Orleans looking for answers to their father’s disappearance twenty years before. To uncover the truth, the brothers enlisted the aid of a trailwise Gypsy and a mysterious voodoo priest as they sought to re-create their father’s last trek. But Louisiana is a dangerous land, and with one misstep the brothers could disappear in the bayous before they even set foot on the trail—a trail that led to whatever legacy their father had left behind . . . and a secret worth killing for.

Superb audio tape .... as always.Well read .... I enjoyed thoroghtly enjoyed it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good Sackett novel
All the Sackett stories are good and this one does not disappoint although I have always had issues with some of the basic plot.Tell and his brothers have gone looking to find out what happened to their father, who has been missing for 20 years. They talk about what a good father he was and then wonder if he's really dead.Of course he's dead; he's been missing for 20 years. If he's not dead, he's either a lousy father and husband for leaving them all (which doesn't square with the character they've remembered) or he's lost his memory. That would be unusual in any time and you'd think that people would have heard about it.All that said, it's a storyline that you have no trouble getting immersed in.Nobody can spin a yarn like Louis L'Amour and this one has you caught up in it from page one.

Considine and Pete Runyon had once been friends, back in the days when both were cowhands. But when Runyon married the woman Considine loved, the two parted ways. Runyon settled down and became a sheriff. Considine took up robbing banks. Now Considine is planning a raid on the bank at Obaro, a plan that will pit him against Runyon…and lead to riches or suicide. The one thing he never counted on was meeting a strong, beautiful woman and her stubborn father, hell-bent on traveling alone through Apache territory to a new life. Suddenly Considine must choose between revenge and redemption—and either choice could be the last one he makes.

5-0 out of 5 stars 8th Grade review
This book was assigned to me to read for 8th grade and was the first Louis L'Amour book I read. I can't really say it's my favorite yet but I really liked it alot! It's about a small group of outlaws led by a man named Considine and as they escape from one of the biggest, most carefully planned bank robberies ever and how Considine meets up with an old friend along the way, named Dave Spanyer, who has a very pretty daughter that he would like to marry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb tragedy
The solidarity of men of the "frontier" to save a woman at risk is the central node of this magnificent history. Faced with the danger expressed by Apaches, a band of outlaws will sacrifice and forget his loot. A very beautiful story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Blown away by this one
This has to be one of the best in the Western genre I have read. It is short, full of action and packs a real punch. Considine has been a bank robber for the last decade or so and is getting jaded. Together with Dutch, Hardy and the Kiowa they decide to make one last hit, on the bank at Obara which has proved impossible to hit in the past. Everyone in town is prepared to fight for it, and they are all top marksmen.

The four in the gang meet up with a man and his daughter, Lennie, on the trail into town - they are heading west. Considine feels a spark with Lennie and it is reciprocated but her father doesn't want her taking up with a no account gunslinger, even though he was one. So they part ways - Considine and the gang to do the bank, and lennie and her father to 'californy'

The bank job goes ok, but making their escape for Mexico they cut Lennie's trail and see that they are on one horse, and that there are indians stalking them. Considine hears shooting the distance, he knows the town posse is after him, but he has to decide between Mexico and saving the woman who is holed up and making at stand at High Lonesome.

This is a great story about the grey areas of life, of making decisions, of retribution and forgiveness. It moves along quickly and was a great read - highly recommended.

There are some great lines in here.

Product Description
One of the outstanding narratives of our time, the chronicle of the Sackett family is one of the great achievements of one of our finest storytellers. In Lonely on the Mountain, Louis L’Amour’s solitary, wandering Sackett brothers make a stand together–to save one of their own.

A SACKETT’S WORD

The rare letters Tell Sackett received always had trouble inside. And the terse note from his cousin Logan was no exception. Logan faced starvation or a hanging if Tell couldn’t drive a herd of cattle from Kansas to British Columbia before winter. To get to Logan, he must brave prairie fires, buffalo stampedes, and Sioux war parties. But worse trouble waits, for a mysterious enemy shadows Sackett’s every move across the Dakotas and the
Canadian Rockies.

Tell Sackett has never abandoned another Sackett in need. He will bring aid to Logan–or die trying. ... Read more

An excellent story in the L'Amour tradition. The Sackett series of novels never fails to entertain. This novel like the others is hard to put down. A long trail drive into the Canadian wilderness in answer to a letter asking for help from a fellow Sackett. Excellent story line and engaging characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lonely on the Mountain (the Sacketts)
Louis L'amour books havebeen around for a number of years. I remember my Uncle reading these books back in the 1950's. He is a great Author andany of his books you purchase I am sure you will enjoy. He wrote about the West as it was when it was new and wild. I recentally purchased 5 0f these books for my Grandson. He is thrilled with them.

2-0 out of 5 stars L'Amour misfires
Why does Logan Sackett need a herd of beeves by winter? His kinfolk Tell and Tyrel Sackett don't know, but they will cross Hell, high water, and everything else that gets in their way to get the herd to him.And Orrin is on his way, too.

That sounds like a strong setup, as good a prelude to action as the roll-and-snap sound of a Winchester '73 levering a round into the chamber. And then the trigger is squeezed, the hammer falls . . . and nothing happens.

Louis L'Amour had a lot of strengths as a Western author - vivid descriptions, swift and sure narrative, a flair for sympathetic characterization, a thorough knowledge of Western history and geography, and a thoughtful approach to the question of what manhood means. But he never mastered the art of suspense. He recognized this limitation, and a few times he tried valiantly to overcome it, but never succeeded.Lonely on the Mountain is one of those failed efforts.L'Amour does manage to keep the secret of Logan's predicament until the end of the book, but only by making the predicament boring and perfunctory, and by eschewing all clues and foreshadowing. The result is the weakest climax in any L'Amour novel.

Worse still is L'Amour's failure to keep Tell Sackett true to his character. In earlier novels, Tell was a humane man, capable of awesome lethality when necessary, but taking no pleasure in violence; one of my favorite scenes in the original novel Sackett shows Tell genially avoiding a confrontation with a young fool who's spoiling for a shootout.Tell's comrade, Cap Rountree, was a little flintier, but not inherently cruel. But in this book, both men suddenly become sadists, gloating in the fear and pain of their enemies in a childish, schoolyard-bully manner. In another character, I might have been able to tolerate this; the West was a mean place and had its share of mean men.But I don't want to see it coming from my old buddy Tell.

And if the above complaint makes me sound like a softie, this next one won't.Just before Tell finds Logan, one of his best trail companions is murdered from ambush - and Tell doesn't make the slightest effort to find out who did it or track the killer down!Never.Happen.The Tell I knew wouldn't rest until he found the guilty man and either shot him dead or saw him hanged.

Not that the book is worthless. We get to explore a little-known area of Western history and geography; how many Western authors even acknowledge that Canada exists, much less bother to research its history and set part of the action there?L'Amour also experiments with shifting viewpoints, letting us share Orrin's puzzlement as he searches for Logan, Tell, and Tyrel; in fact, Orrin's scenes are the best part of the novel.

Even on his worst day, L'Amour could never tell a dull story.Just a profoundly unsatisfying one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A JOURNEY THROUGH THE MOJAVE DESERT TO LOS ANGELES

This July, 1964, western novel transports the reader to the years 1875-1879 with a trip through the Mojave desert into Los Angeles, California. The route Tell Sackett takes out of Hardyville, Arizona Territory, leads him to Piute Wash and Rock Spring, then south to Black Canyon, then south to Granite Well, then southwest to Willow Spring and the Sheep Hole Mountains, with a side trip to Hidden Valley, then into Los Angeles (or "the Pueblo" as it was then known).

Once there he stays at Pico House, an 1870 style, 3 story high, blue granite hotel on the corner of Main and Plaza.Along the way Tell meets up with Nolan Sackett and till book's end, though they are related cousins from Tennessee, seem to be on opposite sides. This book doesn't show Nolan at his best until he decides to side with his cousin.

Louis L'Amour also gives us much collateral information along the way such as the place known as La Nopalera or as 'The Catus Patch' area being today's Hollywood, and Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas being modern day Beverly Hills.Rodeo drive did originally see many rodeos in its area. He also mentions the town of San Bernardino as originally being a Mormon town, and interestingly Big Horn Sheep are not sheep at all, but in the deer family.

In Tell's journey we get this guided tour of a trail to Los Angeles, meet a woman who could be called a witch, seek to recapture stolen gold from Tell, and discover gold from a retired pirate, and meet several down right mean and ornery killers. In several scenes the past comes unexpectedly rushing back to haunt William Tell Sackett in both people and locale.

This book once listed as number 6 in the Sackett series, is now listed in THE SACKETT COMPANION: A PERSONAL GUIDE TO THE SACKETT NOVELS by Louis as number 9.If a reader enjoys this novel it is an apt suggestion that he or she will also be interested in THE CALIFORNIOS, another book by Louis L'Amour, though that book is not in the Sackett series. But both books show California to have been equal to any western town of the time though we do not usually consider it such today. Both books help us to realign our thinking to seeing California as rough and ready as any town of the west.

Semper Fi.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sackett Goes to California
This is one of the better Sackett stories. It is the eighth in the Sackett series and the second that involves Tell Sackett (the first is the novel "Sackett"). It covers survival in the mojave (several interesting secretes about finding water in the desert) and different skills for survival in the wild young city of Los Angeles (lots of the old place names for hotels and bars are used); and of course, there is a girl and a "black sheep" Sackett coming to the rescue. It has very thing including an old retired pirate and his hidden treasure of gold. It is colorfully written and is non-stop action. In fact, I did not want it to end and that is the best recommendation I can give.

4-0 out of 5 stars Them Sacketts

In it you do meet more Sacketts thus making it a important part of that familie's saga.

3-0 out of 5 stars More Tell and fewer Sacketts, please
A pair of young men once pulled Louis L'Amour out of a fight in Tucumcari. They told L'Amour that their opponents steered clear of them because they had over a dozen brothers, and whoever might beat one of the family would be attacked by all the others.L'Amour modeled the Sackett clan after his Tucumcari benefactors.

Knowing this, I was puzzled to find that this defining feature of the Sackett family had never come into play in any of the five Sackett stories* I had read before.A Sackett in trouble rarely gets help from anybody, and when he does, it's only from one or two of his kin.But now, I understand. In The Sackett Brand, the family's power finally is fully mustered against one of its enemies, and the sight of a bunch of Sacketts dogpiling the villain turns out to be flat boring.

And that's a shame, because the setup of The Sackett Brand is damned good."Tell" Sackett and his wife are on their way West to start a new life with the wealth they won in their last novel. While they stop to rest, somebody shoots Tell in the back, he falls down a cliff into a stream, their wagon is stolen and his wife is kidnapped. In the first two minutes!

From that point on, Tell has a desperate nonstop struggle to evade a whole gang of merciless, skilled killers, not knowing who is behind them or why they want him dead.Victory is out of the question for the moment; mere survival is going to take everything he has.He also needs to find his missing wife, and even though you know he'll succeed, the scene where he does so is surprising and original.

And then, alas, all of Tell's efforts and suffering are pounded into irrelevance under a thundering avalanche of Sacketts, who set the course of the whole final act.The villain is unmasked, and turns out to be dull. The only glimmer of entertainment in the denouement is from Parmalee Sackett, who fights the family's enemies with his wallet instead of his gun.But a lot of Parmalee's charm comes from David Strathairn's voicing of his Tennessee accent, and may be lost if you read the hardcopy.

For the Sacketts-all-come-running idea to work, L'Amour would have had to come up with an enemy that actually could give the whole Sackett clan a stand-up fight - something like the consortium of Wyoming cattle barons who started the Johnson County War, or San Francisco's Big Four train tycoons with their army of Pinkertons and railroad detectives.Maybe something like that lies hidden in the big pile of L'Amours that I haven't read yet.But such a concept doesn't play to L'Amour's strength. He was at his best when he was telling the story of a man alone who defines his manhood by struggle: struggle against other men, struggle against the environment, but most of all, struggle to maintain his own integrity.

*My previous experience comprised Sackett, Sackett's Land, Lonely on the Mountain, Mustang Man, and the short story The Courting of Griselda.
