Excerpt: Jaslene Gonzalez is a Puerto Rican American fashion model, and the winner of Cycle 8 of America's Next Top Model. Jaslene Gonzalez was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Humboldt Park, Chicago. She attended Notre Dame High School for Girls in Chicago. She was an online college admissions advisor prior to America's Next Top Model. Gonzalez had done some modeling prior to America's Next Top Model, having been represented by Avant Garde Models. In her CW "Close-up" interview, it was revealed that she appeared in fashion shows for local Chicago designers, including Michelle Gomez of Chicago and Alexis Arquette, as seen in local Chicago newspapers Extra and La Nota. Gonzalez said in her Seventeen interview that she had been in an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend; the relationship ended shortly before the filming of Cycle 7. Jaslene tried out for Cycle 7, but only made it to the semifinals. Assuring the judges that she would be back for the next cycle's audition, Jaslene's determination caught the eyes of producers, who thought she had potential. She indeed trie...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=11265595 ... Read more

Excerpt: MADtv is an American sketch comedy television series. It licenses the name and logo of Mad, but otherwise has no connection with the humor magazine outside the animated Spy vs. Spy and Don Martin cartoon shorts and images of Alfred E. Neuman that the show featured during the late 1990s. Its first TV broadcast was on October 14, 1995. The one-hour show aired Saturday nights on Fox and is in syndication on Comedy Central. In Australia the show screens on satellite and cable TV channel The Comedy Channel and in late-night timeslots on free-to-air broadcaster the Nine Network Australia and its affiliates. It was created by Fax Bahr and Adam Small. The series was originally produced by Bahr/Small Productions and Quincy Jones/David Salzman Entertainment (QDE). Since Bahr and Small left the series at the end of the third season (they are currently credited as "executive consultants"), the series has been handled by QDE and Warner Bros. Television (Warner Bros.' parent company Time Warner owns Mad magazine through its DC Comics subsidiary). On November 12, 2008, Fox announced that MADtv's 14th season would be its last. However, David Salzman said that he would be exploring the continuation of the show on another channel, possibly cable. However the show will not air in the 20092010 season. In early 2009, the show was moved behind Talkshow with Spike Feresten, the show that normally follows MADtv, as a test, before being moved back. The series finale aired on May 16, 2009. MADtv was taped in front of a live audience and consists of sketch comedy skits and musical perfor...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=414890 ... Read more

Excerpt: Fox Business Network is an American cable news and satellite news television channel that commenced broadcasting on October 15, 2007. It is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. The network discusses business and financial news and currently is available in about 49 million places in the United States as of June 2009. News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch confirmed the launch at his keynote address at the 2007 McGraw-Hill Media Summit on February 8, 2007. Day-to-day operations are run by Kevin Magee, executive vice president of Fox News; Neil Cavuto manages content and business news coverage. Ray Hennessey directs the FoxBusiness.com website. Murdoch had publicly stated that if the purchase of The Wall Street Journal went through and if it were legally possible, he would have rechristened the channel with a name that has "Journal" in it. However, on July 11, 2007, the parent company, News Corp, announced that the new channel would be called Fox Business Network (FBN). This name Fox Business Network was chosen over Fox Business Channel due to the pre-existing (though seldom used) legal abbreviation of FBC for Fox Broadcasting Company. The network is placed on channel 43 in the New York City market, an important market for financial news. It is paired with Fox News on the dial, which moved to channel 44. CNBC is on channel 1...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=9395235 ... Read more

Product Description
According to the study conducted by Gallup Organization, only a minority of Americans experience consistent normativemotivation for engaging with other people's children. Social normstheory suggests that adults are more likely to get deeply involved ifthat involvement is viewed as highly important, and if they perceive asocial expectation to do so.

This volume examines the nature of social norms in general and in relationship to children and adolescents. The book examines the complex dynamics of understanding the appropriate roles of parents and other adults in young people's healthy development. The volume also presents the study's findings in detail, including numerous areas of consensus among American adults, differences among American adults, and the gap between perceived importance and actual engagement. A wide-ranging literature synthesis suggests implications for both personal and collective actions with potential to change norms that inhibit engagement and to strengthen values that encourage engagement.

Other People's Kids is a valuable reference for developmental psychologists, child psychologists, school and community psychologists, practitioners, administrators and policymakers. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Why are American adults so uinvolved in the lives of today's youth?
This book was written as a result of research, by the Search Institute, that revealed that only a fraction of American adults consistently engage with other people's children in positive ways.Given that asset building requires the participation of adults to contribute to young people's healthy development (not only for children in their own families, but also for other people's children), this book sets out to prove the importance of developing social norms in communities and society to support adult engagement with young people.

Scales (2003) uses the book to:

Bring to light the social norms that make really caring about other people's children difficult.

Illustrate how our attitudes toward other people's kids have been shaped.

Explain how we can change such attitudes and begin to engage with the children around us in ways that will be healthy towards their development ... Read more
