Kiefer Sutherland has earned the reputation of being a bad-boy and in this book we learn how his personality and his life experiences have caused this happen. But Kiefer Sutherland is also Jack Bauer, a man of extremes and has done a wonderful job on television in the series "24".
Sutherland has had other successes as well as some flops. He managed to break away from Hollywood to take part in rodeos and he finally got the chance to play a cowboy on film. Regardless of his personal reputation, most of us will think of him, however, as Jack Bauer who is Sutherland's own creation. As Bauer he must combat terrorism in the world and that world is one of danger, uncertainty, indecision and insecurity. As much of a hero Sutherland is on screen, his personal life has caused him a lot of grief and now that "24" is going off the air, Sutherland will face new challenges. He certainly has his demons to deal with but we can only hope that he will learn to deal with them. Heard takes is into the star's life and gives us an intense portrait of Kiefer, the man and I think that after reading this, you will never look at Kiefer Sutherland in the same way.

Kiefer Sutherland is a mystery to me and I wanted to find out more about him and what makes him tick so when I heard about a Montreal based publishing house releasing a biography on Sutherland, I immediately wanted to read the book.

Kiefer Sutherland: Living Dangerously is exactly the type of book I was looking for.From the prologue where the author, Christopher Heard states that he never writes a book on someone he has never met, to the engaging, informative and respectful tone of the storyline, there was absolutely nothing I did not like about this book.

Heard first explains his own personal encounters with Sutherland - then segways into Sutherland's youth and then basically discusses every movie Sutherland ever made.Some movies were covered in bigger detail of course, but I have to say that the author does a fine job of giving us a thorough overview of Sutherland's professional life - intermingled with events that were also happening in his private life.

If there is one negative comment that I would make is that I was hoping for a little bit more "personal" stuff - but overall, this is a minor exception to a very well written biography.

The author really hits his stride when he talks about Sutherland and "24".I loved the little "tidbits" he shares such as when Sutherland and his TV daughter had to tape a scene where they are talking on the telephone - but were really sitting only a few feet from each other.

The author does a great job of showing us the many sides of Sutherland - he can be an absolute pro when it comes to his professional life - but can also be an absolute horror when it comes to his personal life.Heard balances this off very well -
in the end, Sutherland is pretty much the way I thought he would be and thanks to this biography, I feel as though I know more than I use to.

I also liked that the author always uses a tone of respect when talking about any person in this story.He is balanced and respectful rather than negative, sarcastic or overly "fan" like -I also thought this added a touch of seriousness to the book.I hate reading biographies when they are written by authors who are so obviously "in awe" of their subject matter - this is not the case here.

If you want a down to earth, engaging and entertaining biography on Sutherland, this is the book for you!

Great Biography of Kiefer Sutherland
I am a hugh fan of Kiefer Sutherland & have alot of his movies. When I saw this book I just had to buy it to see if there were things that I didn't know about him as a person or an actor. Mostly of what you know comes from the media, magazines & the internet, but the information in this book comes straight from the source. If you are a big fan of Kiefer you need to purchase this book. In the book it tells you the many good things he has accomplished in his life. The worst of times in his life. His trials & tribulations and his deep feelings for family, friends & his work. From the start to the end you will journey the long roads that Kiefer has traveled to become the man he is today. I strongly recommend this book. Enjoy!

Just OK...
I was really excited to get this book from the library since I'm a big fan of Kiefer Sutherland.Unfortunately I was really disappointed.I feel like I could have written the book myself!There were very, very few NEW things that I didn't already know about Kiefer from other articles, TV interviews, etc.I'd only recommend this book to new fans, or ones that don't really know much about his life already.

Amazing photographic album for any 24 aficionado
This book really is a fantastic collection of photos taken over the course of the making of Seasons 1-5. If you're a hardcore 24 fan then you will really appreciate this book. The book is divided into the five seasons and has some great behind-the-scenes looks at the cast and crew, along with some great little chunks of insight from (usually) Jon Cassar about how they crafted the stories, characters, sets, etc. . The bonus Production Design and Making 24 chapters are excellent as they have more information about the process of creating the show.

My only gripe with this book is that it is so heavily focused on the photos, and I would have preferred a little more information about the behind-the-scenes. The bonus "Behind The Scenes" DVD is a 7-minute mini-doco with Jon Cassar explaining how the idea for the book came about.

If you can't get enough of 24, and love seeing beautifully captured behind the scenes photos, then you need to buy this book. If, however, you are looking for an in-depth read on the making of the show, you might want to reconsider.

LOVE IT!
I bought this book for my boyfriend for Christmas.... and ended up reading the whole thing the night I was supposed wrap it. What a great, comprehensive, informative book! This book is very complete and has a ton of great pictures and information/trivia that fans want to know! Any 24 fan would love to own this !

A great book. Shows stunning photos of the TV show "24" being filmed for seasons 1-3. I highly recommend it for any true "24" fan.

Excellent content for 24 fans, from Season 1 to Season 5, with plenty of professional pictures of very high artistic quality, to get insights into the show cast, crew and into some of the most challenging scenes.
You have a look at off screen actors relaxing and having fun while waiting for the next shot or discussing about it or trying to focus on their lines.
Finally you feel the strength of that "24 family" Kiefer Sutherland writes about in his nice foreword of the book.
Also excellent quality of the editorial format.

Not a Calendar!
This is soooo NOT a calendar.The pictures of Kiefer are good, but the calendar portion is totally useless.The numbers are straight across the bottom of the page.There's no days of the week; just a row of numbers (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22...).

To classify this as a calendar is a great stretch and very misleading to the point of false advertising.Only buy this item if you just want the pictures of Kiefer.

KIEFER, Again!
Purchased this in 2007 for 2008 and simply HAD to buy the sequel! Fabulous photos and large blanks for notes.

Kiefer Sutherland est l'arrière petit fils de Thomas Sutherland, fils de Donald Sutherland et de Shirley Douglas qui sont tous deux acteurs canadiens. Il est aussi le petit-fils de Tommy Douglas. Lui et sa sœur jumelle, Rachel, sont nés à Londres pendant que ses parents y travaillaient. Il possède les passeports britannique et canadien, par droit du sol pour le premier et par droit du sang pour le deuxième. Sa famille et lui déménagent ensuite à Los Angeles. Inscrit au lycée français de la ville, Kiefer Sutherland est parfaitement francophone. En 1970, ses parents divorcent et en 1975, il s'installe avec sa mère à Toronto. Là-bas, il suit ses cours supérieurs aux écoles suivantes : St. Andrew's College, Martingrove Collegiate Institute, Harbord Collegiate Institute and Malvern Collegiate Institute.
