Product Description
"In the continuum of life and trying to discover my true self, Sabrina reminds me, through her brave, insightful, and heartfelt honesty, that we are all connected in this journey. We are connected through an intertwining sameness called the struggles and joys of finding and becoming our authentic selves. When I read her words, I felt acknowledged for my journey and for being a woman in these complex times...Thank you, Sabrina, for sharing your gift with us. May we all continue to share our journeys together so we know we are not alone."
--from the Foreword by Hilary Swank, actor

From the acclaimed twenty-five-year-old authorartist of the stunning visual memoir Spilling Open comes the all-new multimedia installment of her intimate journey Brave on the Rocks: If You Don't Go, You Don't See.

Picking up where Spilling Open left off, Sabrina Ward Harrison tells us about the surprising reaction to her first book. Via her readers' letters and e-mails, she realized that through her journal she had become an identifying voice for women around the world. However, along with recognition came a certain pressure to uphold her new image. Overwhelmed by her attempt to live up to what she thought she had to become, Sabrina decided to head out on her own. She chose as her destination Italy, a place she had always dreamed and written about, a place she felt she could go to "recolor" herself. In her journey she discovered a universal identity with other travelers and a particular kinship with the women she met. But back home she struggled to keep her newfound confidence intact as she navigated her life.

Harrison writes and illustrates with a powerful and creative voice. Her thoughts are real and brave. She explores with sensitivity questions of love, faith, growing pains, being true to oneself, and what it means to be unique. With unfaltering honesty, she allows us to witness and share in her reconnection with herself, her growing and reaching, and, ultimately, her voyage home again.

5-0 out of 5 stars <3
love this book.I first read it in high school and even now I can relate to her in some of her pages. Such a great book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another Ego Trip
I was going to give this book two stars, one for the effort made by Harrison, and another so that I wouldn't look like a chump. I'll look like a chump, then.

I was happy to find Spilling Over hidden amongst the books I browsed at the bookstore. The art was cool. After purchasing and reading the book, however, the project as a whole made me a little nauseous--there was an abundant amount of egotism to swallow and a not-very-unique story told.

Some artists and some authors develop an overbearing ME on the success of their work, which then becomes rather unpalatable to some people. And, I feel like Harrison is guilty of that sin in Brave on the Rocks. It's like...get over it, already. Evolve, already. Brave is just more pages of the first book.

I don't mean to completely knock Harrison. It's that this art is just not -that- worthy. But, if you dig this style, and you simply want to look at more of the same, that's cool, too. Enjoy.

2-0 out of 5 stars deja vu all over again...
If you've read Harrison's first book, you've essentially read this one too. This contains more of her free-spirited artwork, which is the high point of the book, but once again the text was wanting; in fact, overall it was remarkably similar to the thoughts in her first book. I went into this book thinking, "Good, maybe she's evolved a little more and we'll get to see the progression." Unfortunately, she hadn't changed enough to warrant another book so soon; it was essentially "More Spilling Open!"
The pithy text hadn't evolved either; again, I know it's based on her journals, but in a lot of cases I wondered why this information was shared with us, because it seemed like filler, not vital. This being the case, I'd rather just look at the art and have the journaling aspects minimized. I must say though, she must be a fairly secure person (though she doesn't seem to see herself as such) to put all her personal baggage right out there in print.

This book seems to have an identity crisis going on: part diary, part art book, part self-help, part adolescent studies. I'm sure it was very healing for her to write, but it comes across as weaker than her first book and not different enough from it. Hopefully she can evolve rather than become a stagnated person who never manages to change: why bother to keep writing if everything is staying the same?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book...
I had Spilling Open and decided to search Amazon for any other books. I found Brave on the Rocks. I think Sabrina is unique and very talented. She makes me feel like art is possible for anyone with the desire to create. I don't know why people have to dismiss her efforts. Like our mothers said "If you have nothing good to say about anyone, say nothing at all." People may say others could have done this but, they didn't Sabrina did and that alone makes it the best it can be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Self-discovery is the most important thing
Maybe the people who were bashing this book are the kind of people who don't care about self-discovery or self-realization. I don't think her intent was to save the world with "Brave on the Rocks" and it's a mistake that her books are sometimes in the self-help section at the bookstore-- I consider her books to be INSPIRATION and ART! These books are journals, people, and what else do you write about in your journal but yourself? There's so much beauty in her words and art, she makes you feel like getting out the old paintbrushes and writing your thoughts. That to me is a beautiful thing. The only criticism I have about this book is that she seemed to hold back her feelings a lot more, she didn't "Spill Open" as vulnerably as she did in her first book. But that is her perogative. Basically, like Sabrina said, we need more ORDINARY people writing books-- by being ourselves, we find out that we are all uniquely EXTRAORDINARY! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
so i bought this book with big expectations and it hasn't failed me yet.
the book was brand spankin new when i got it and in mint condition.
more than worth it. thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The wife loved it
My wife loved the workouts and the material. She is a tiny thing and loves boxing for some reason. I can't complain because she stays in great shape. Buy this book and hope your wife loves it like mine did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective and enjoyable 4-week training
Explanations and images are very useful. The workout is designed to gradually increase your cardio resistance and your boxing skills. Highly recommendable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for Women
I've been punching a heavy bag off and on for couple of years now and I knew just really basics on how to hit the bag and other things of that nature.Well I haven't been doing much at all lately and getting a little out of shape....So the wife and I decided that we would like to get back into our excercise routine.I went back to boxing, and she was jealous because my workout looked fun and hers was repetitive. She asked to be shown how to hit the bag, and I showed her basics, but other than that I didn;t even know.So the next day I went online and looked up reviews on boxing excercise regiments and this book kept coming up...I became intrigued and ordered the book.Well let me tell you just the basics I thought I knew I needed to make adjustments, and this book should be called boxing for dummy's.It teaches you everything from stance, to punching to movements, to lifting to you name it...if it's in boxing this book covers it.So I bought this book for my wife, but I got just as much use out of it as she has been getting.

Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent boxing instruction
I found this book to be well done. It has a 4-week workout schedule with three workouts per week. I am on the third week and not only are my arm muscles developing, but they glow when I finish a workout and I feel great. This is a full-body workout - you don't stand still andpush your arms around. In addition to 3-minute round-style combo punches and defense, you jump rope and do strength exercises (push ups, crunches, flutter kicks). The instruction is well-illustrated and the book does a great job of motivating you. This can be an intense workout, but you'll feel stronger after each one. You really need to put your all into the workout - no half-hearted punches, and no cheating!

I purchased this book to start boxing for fitness, and I love it. These are actual punches and combos you could take to the ring someday, if you wanted. I also purchased a DVD boxing video and I find myself drifting off and going back to this book because it encourages you to practice numerous combos and come up with your own unique workout, not a boring jab, jab, right, hook, repeat 10 times.

Get a pair of gloves (mine are pink), pick up this book, and really work off the pounds. ... Read more

Product Description
Before disappearing over the Pacific Ocean in 1937, famed aviator Amelia Earhart was a national treasure. A noted author, publisher, fashion designer, public speaker, and businesswoman, she traveled in all circles of life, from the Midwest farmlands of her youth to the New York society, which embraced her as one of their own. Her determination and adventurous spirit earned her a place in history, becoming a symbol of freedom and success for women. Amelia, directed by Mira Nair (The Namesake, Vanity Fair, Monsoon Wedding), chronicles Earhart's early aviation triumphs and her meteoric rise to fame and fortune. Two-time Academy Award®-winner Hilary Swank stars as the legendary aviatrix, with Academy Award®-nominee Richard Gere as Earhart's publisher and husband, George Putnam. Academy Award®-nominee Virginia Madsen, and Golden Globe®-winner Ewan McGregor round out the excellent cast. Fox Searchlight Pictures will release Amelia in select theaters October 23, 2009. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Amelia
Amelia Earhart, one of the most prominent women in American history, comes back to life on the silver screen starring Hilary Swank as the famous aviatrix. The book, //Amelia The Motion Picture//, is not a biography but a chronicle of the motion picture. It contains photos from the motion picture as well as original photographs of Amelia.Hilary Swank bears amazing resemblance to Amelia.Richard Gere plays Amelia's famous husband, George Palmer Putnam. The black and white and color photography is beautiful and is the key part of the book. There is an introduction by the Director, Mira Nair, and a foreword by Hilary Swank.

This is a lovely addition for a collector of this genre of books. As a young teenager, I was fascinated by Amelia Earhart and her amazing life, including her tragic disappearance. That fascination never really faded as I grew older, so I was eager to review this book.I was disappointed that the book focuses on the movie and not on Amelia's life, but that is what the book is all about - the movie, not her life. There is no doubt that it is a lovely book, but at a price of $35, this is not likely to be a book that I would add to my collection.
