5-0 out of 5 stars A guitar enthusiasts treasure!
I received this book from my mom as a christmas present in 1993.I could not believe the guitars that Mr. Ferrington has created. For instance, a single-neck guitar that is both regular electric and a baritone.Or the beautiful mini accoustics built for Linda Rondstadt and Crystal Gayle. There are pictures of his accoustic basses as well as classical string instruments that show quite clearly the he is a master of his arts.If you are musician or just enjoy instruments as art, you will definitely like this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars the old days were not all that good
I wanted to read this book, I'll confess, because I read the book about Marlo Thomas her former major domo wrote, and I wanted to get some idea as to whether or not the things he claimed to be true about her really were.

What I realized is that Danny Thomas was an incredibly lucky guy.He had no real performing talent as far as I can tell.He was, however, good at hanging with his pals, and they helped him get to a position of power in being a producer of sitcoms during the early 60's (Andy Griffith Show, his own Make Room for Daddy, the Dick vanDYke show). I think his true talent must have been in being a hard-edged boss, who could meet a bottom line, and who took his work ethic seriously.I think Marlo Thomas learned that from him as well. But none of that is discussed even remotely in this book.

In fact, it gives little insight though into any of the things that were really happening in his life. His family is mentioned hardly at all, and only in the most superficial way.He spends most of his time repeating his stories and recounting his performing career, which really wasn't all that noteworthy.

I think Marlo THomas has been struggling to overcome her Major Domo's tell-all book for a long time, and I hope someday she'll write her own story.(Including what it was like to have a former employee write a book about you and what it was like to have to deal with that.)But I'd like to know what it was like to grow up in Hollywood as a privileged child of Hollywood royalty, when in fact her roots were quite humble.I'd like to know about her parents' relationship and how it formed the personalities of their three children.I'd like to know what her observations of her Dad's workplace were in those days and how it motivated her to become an actress. How has the world of television changed? How is it the same?

All in all, this book was disappointing.I am sure Danny Thomas was a sweet man.I just don't feel like I knew much more about him after reading this book than I did before. ... Read more

Product Description
Marilyn Manson Trilogy author, Danny Jameson aka Thomas Chi, impersonated a Pentecostal pastor attacking homosexuals in the first book known as Marilyn Manson Murders. Jameson mimicked an assassin for the second book, Marilyn Manson Kills, and masqueraded as a stripper named Jennifer to measure reactions to Manson's music in the last book of the trilogy known as Confessions of a Christian Porn Star. What started out as a book on the evolution of Rock and Roll became a sociopolitical statement about apocalyptic fears nationwide. Jameson collected over 6,000 video interviews after crossing the United States seven times by car and flew into Ankara, Turkey, where he studied St. John's Seven Churches associated with Revelations. Jameson inquired answers about the power of MTV, Rolling Stone Magazine and compiled over 48,000 photographs with thousands of videos posted on Google.

Danny Jameson took the camera underground to interview hookers from Halifax to San Francisco sex dungeons. Sundays were spent camping out near Utah's Temple where he interviewed Salt Lake City tattoo artists selling body piercings to Mormons after they left church. Two intense weeks were spent with a stripper from Baghdad, Iraq, as she lap danced her way across New York. Investigating Manson never stopped as Jameson flew to the Loch Ness Monster Museum in Scotland as well as California's Emerald Triangle to study drug trafficking connected with Bigfoot sightings. Jameson interviewed ambassadors from Transylvania to find links to vampires. He researched school shootings by seeking answers on Columbine's campus in Colorado. Trekking was necessary, because Manson's global popularity has spread across continents; 15,000 screaming fans in Istanbul, sold out concerts in Russia and die hard devotees in Europe.

Excerpt:Alex Birns (February 21, 1907 March 20, 1975), also known as "Shondor" , was a notorious Jewish-American mobster and racketeer from Cleveland, Ohio who was once labeled as the city's Public Enemy No. 1 by the local newspapers. He was actively involved in a wide variety of racketeering and other organized crime related activities such as prostitution , theft, Numbers , etc, from the days of Prohibition until his demise.Biography Early life Alex Birns was born Alexander Birnstein in 1907 in the town of Lemes in a section of Austria-Hungary that went to Czechoslovakia under the Versailles treaty . His parents were Herman and Illon Birnstein. Youngest of three children, he was brought to New York at the age of one month. From New York City , the family moved to Cleveland, settling in the lower Woodland Avenue district. Like many immigrant families, the "Birnsteins" Americanized their surname to Birn. Alexander's name was abbreviated to an English translation of Zander. But the Italian and Jewish neighbors took to calling the boy "Shondor" and the name stuck. Like most families, the Birn family struggled to earn a living in the New World. Like many immigrants during Prohibition, they turned to bootlegging, taking in a small still from Cleveland Mafia boss, Joe Lonardo to supplement their income and provide better for their children. In November 1920, Birn's mother was tending to the 10-gallon still in their apartment, when a faulty gas connection caused an explosion. ... ... Read more

Product Description
Our journey through Chicago begins on an El train platform looking South on State Street in the Loop. From there we are guided through the streets of the Windy City. Through the eyes of 30 photographers, we see Chicago's inhabitants, ways of life, its past (as far back as 1930) and its present. Eventually we end our trip outside of the city's center, but not before we feel a genuine sense of intimacy and warmth within a place notorious for its chill. The images herein have been culled from LaSalle bank's more than 4,000 collected photos. It is divided into two sections: part one presents a sequence of powerful photographs taken in downtown Chicago, part two unfolds as an artistic testimony to the people who live in the city's historically diverse neighborhoods. Features 47 works by artists such as Walker Evans, Harry Callahan, Danny Lyon, Thomas Struth, Lee Friedlander, Robert Frank, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Terry Evans, Hedrich Blessing Studio, Vera Lutter, and others.

Chicago is good-looking. The city knows it, just as a woman who turns heads is not unaware of the fact. --Robert Cohen

Product Description
Philosophy is a popular and difficult subject. Students taking philosophy courses in university are often at a loss for how to appreciate the strange problems they are taught. They either do not see there is a problem or feel that the problem is utterly trivial. The laymen are also captivated by the title "philosophy", but once philosophical problems are systematically presented to them, they find the technicalities involved obscure, pretentious and unnecessary.Twenty Problems in Philosophy is written to introduce reasonably motivated laymen and university students taking philosophy courses to the core problems of philosophy. These problems are presented in the way they are taught in a university, and yet the materials are packaged in a concise and accessible style. The coverage of this book is so broad that ten sub-disciplines of the philosophy curriculum are broached. This book is thus a complete mini-guide to contemporary western philosophy that is taught in a tertiary institution. ... Read more
