5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful gift for a friend!
I received this book as a gift, and after seeing how special it is, I decided to buy a few to give as gifts as well.It allows you to personalize the gift by writing specific things about the gift receiver in the book, like "This is how you have made a difference in my life, "You bring happiness to others by, " and "Here are some of the wonderfully unique things I appreciate about you," just to mention a few.The illustrations are colorful and cheerful, and the quotes are very meaningful. It's definitely a feminine book, so I think it would go over better with the women. The friend that gave it to me also wrote other things in the book that went along with a picture or a quote, and that made it even more special. When I received "I Celebrate You!" it was so meaningul that it brought tears to my eyes. This book is a perfect small gift for that special friend in your life! ... Product Description

The piecemeal fashion in which human factors research has been conducted in the maritime domain makes information retrieval available only by scanning through numerous research journals and conference papers. Bringing together human factors information from this and other domains, Human Factors in the Maritime Domain integrates a common body of knowledge into one single volume.

The book provides the vital background information necessary to acquire a core knowledge base and a much-needed overview of human factors within the maritime domain. It starts by putting the topic into an historical and theoretical context, moves onto more specific and detailed topics and contemporary thinking in human factors, then reviews new maritime technology. The authors take a holistic approach based on a model of the socio-technical system of work in the maritime domain. They synthesize available knowledge and research, then present in an easily acceptable framework with example, illustrations, and case studies whenever possible, making the text rigorous, useful, and enjoyable.

The three authors draw on a range of diverse backgrounds including working as a maritime surveyor, transport consultant, human factors lecturer, and mechanical engineer. They have undertaken maritime research in Denmark, Australia, Malta, and the UK. They have published several other human factor books on related topics. This combination of human factors knowledge, maritime wisdom, and substantial publication experience results in a book that is effective and practical.

1-0 out of 5 stars Gag me with a pie server!
I haven't read this book for years, but I recently came across a note about it I sent a friend. The book is arch, cutesy, and elitist.Everything outside of New York is described as being unsophisticated and hokey, the main cop is shown to be a baddie by the fact that she wears nude pantyhose(!), and Sara Amstel earns our contempt by making clever remarks such as "Does any adult actually drink milk?". What's more, there isn't even any shoo-fly pie in the book. ... Read more

After you have made sure that your citizen survey does the best job possible of capturing reliable data about residents' perspectives, you and your management team must ask difficult questions that require thought and introspection: "What does this information tell us? What does it mean? How can we put this information to work?" The purpose of this book is to help you answer those questions and to show you how other local governments have begun to harness the power of citizen surveys to improve performance and efficiency. This book describes effective methods for bringing citizen survey results into the government organization and using the information from the survey to improve service delivery and overall quality of community life. 5-0 out of 5 stars Topical, lively and entertaining: a good read
The Algonquin Round Table meets the internet: The Internet Is Always Right is engaging, communal, interactive, topical, insightful, kinky, and funny (Adam Kraemer, a great comic voice). It reminds us of the power of words (Sarah Ficke educating us on blogs) (Joe Redden Tigan on their power to lead/mislead) (Jason Gilmore's criminal with an unfortunate name) and how they can be placed as commanders of the internet and other communications technology. Procopio's gathered a tribe worthy of the name 'intrepid.' The contributing authors venture into the best use of the internet--unexplored to a great degree--and that is always right. Good job! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Portuguese Spinner, Is The Best book That I've Ever Read!
The Portugues Spinner, was the best book that I've ever read and it took me, only a few days to read it and I've never read this fast before { I just couldn't put the book down ]!My ancestors came from Sao Miquel and Sao Jorge, Acores and lived in New Bedford, Mass. I was born in New Bedford and this book brought back so many memories of living thereand I still remember lots of those places.I went to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church and School! The pictures were Great and it was wonderful reading about your own town like that. I also worked at the factory that was mentioned in the book when I was only 16 yrs.old. I will pass this book along to my children so, they can enjoy it too! Thank you so much! Sincerely, Mrs. Olivia Rosa Silva Strittmatter Tucson, Arizona

5-0 out of 5 stars A major accomplishment
As an immigrant from St. Michael, Azores, who was raised in the south end of New Bedford, Massachusetts, one might think I had little to gain from a book describing my "roots," but quite the opposite was true. Every morning I read a few pages with my coffee and almost every morning Ifound myself teary-eyed and nostalgic. My emotional reaction to the bookcame from feelings of compassion, pride and a deep understanding that wasstirred by the stories, cases, and historical background so beautifullycaptured by the writers and editors. The photography is wonderful as well.I've now purchased three copies of this book and expect to still buymore.I want to share it with family and friends and don't want to give upmy copy so I'll keep buying them as gifts. My sister, who still lives inPortugal, said that if this book were translated into Portuguese, it wouldbe well-received in Europe and Brazil.I know my parents, who arenon-English speakers, would enjoy it thoroughly if it were translated. Meanwhile, I shall treasure it both as a remarkable example ofdocumentation of the immigrant experience and as a personal reminder of myheritage.Non-Portuguese friends of mine have also found it fascinatingand a valuable contribution to an often ignored aspect of American history. Many kudos (and much gratitude) to the editors and publishers fora major accomplishment. ...
