3-0 out of 5 stars 66 book
This book was confusing. Most of the time it told you the directions and then told you what to watch for. Sometimes when you were miles past the place.
It needs to be organized better. It was also difficult to find some of the places listed as attractions. THis could have been fixed by letting you know what side of the road things were on.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit outdated, but still very useful.
This book, when first published, was one of the first "comprehensive" guides to "revival" Route 66.

I've since looked at and considered securing others but stuck with Mr. Snyder's work (in combination with some helpful tidbits found on the internet and accessible by way of Ron Warner's fine, one-stop website), during my very recent fling on 66 from Baxter Springs, KS to Oatman, AZ.

And in hindsight, I would recommend the same for all ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Suffers by comparison
We started our trip with this guide but set it aside after two days. It has four major shortcomings:

First, it overlays modern routes on the classic strip maps. But exits are seldom shown, and it's a guessing game to figure out how to get to the old route - or how to stay on the old route when it crosses I40.

Second, the old strip maps show towns that no longer exist - part of the charm, of course, but these towns don't show up on modern maps, and so it's impossible to correlate where you ARE with where you would have been BACK THEN.

Third, it lacks detailed driving directions.Since US66 is often a discontinuous set of road segments - especially through towns - this is a major shortcoming.

Fourth, it sometimes shortchanges old and interesting route segments - most notable through Santa Fe, NM.

On our second day we found another guide, Jerry McClanahan's "EZ 66" which overcomes all these difficulties and more: it lists more historic attractions, has excellent driving directions, includes very uncluttered maps where maps are needed, has separate directions for traveling from west to east, and includes short side-trips to old road segments.I strongly recommend that book over this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars ROUTE 66 FIRST TIME TRAVELLER
Before the purchase, I cared about reading some buyers opinions and most of them were positive, stressing, however, the guide informatin were much proper for those who intend to travel the east/west route. It makes some sense to me, but I believe the author's tips should be useful en general. I got a little confused with the maps in the beginning, but after some reading it was OK! I hope my journey is going to be well successed!

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY CONFUSING
I just returned from Route 66.I drove it 9 years ago with a different guide and had no problems. This guide is so confusing I became angry at it several times. The author writes as if the reader already knows EVERYTHING about Route 66.He will tell everything about one way to get to the next city and then say, "but if (another city) is your preference, then (do such and such). How do I know what my preference is??I'm trying to travel Route 66!! He will start to tell some directions and then go off into a tangent about what to see or where to eat and then never come back to the directions. He will just say, "Upon leaving (such and such city, do this) .But he has never really said how to leave the city.I was VERY frustrated several times. In one town in Missouri we followed his directions implicitly and didn't find the bed and breakfast we were looking for.So we thought maybe we had the north, south, east , west thing wrong. So we went the other way and found the bed and breakfast. The lady there said, "I'm surprised you found us with that guide. We are in the completely different direction than it says!" Instead of turning right when he says to we should have turned left.So that made us doubt other instructions in the book.It made me wonder if this man has actually driven route 66 and if he has I wonder if he tried to use his own book.I would not try to use this book if you are traveling Route 66.There are much better ones out there. One star for interesting stories in the back. ... Excerpt: "Clumsy" is a song by American pop singer Fergie recorded for her debut solo album The Dutchess. The song was written by Fergie and will.i.am, sampling Little Richard's rendition of "The Girl Can't Help It" and Jimmy Spicer's "The Bubble Bunch". The song was released as the album's fifth single. The song peaked at number five in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the fifth consecutive top-five single from The Dutchess. Fergie has also had five consecutive top 5 hits from a debut album on the ARIA Charts in Australia making her the first artist to do so since Delta Goodrem in 2003 with Innocent Eyes who had five consecutive number ones. "Clumsy" is featured in the movie Knocked Up directed by Judd Apatow. Fergie has performed the song numerous times, one performance being on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008 in which she co-hosted in Hollywood. The music video for "Clumsy" was directed by Marc Webb and Rich Lee. It was wrapped up on September 7, 2007. The video premiere was on AOL Music site in October 12, 2007. The video premiered on iTunes October 26, 2007. The video is done in the style of a pop-up book. It begins with the book opening, displaying the directors' names, the artist and the title. Fergie begins to sing and the page flips to reveal a little pop-up concert, featuring Fergie with a beehive hairstyle, followed by a pop-up of a Dsquared fashion show where Fergie becomes attracted to a man (Swedish supermodel and Professional Paintball Player for the Russian Legion, Alex Lundqvist) in the audience. Another page flip reveals Fergie in a car, and she sees the man again. She the...http://booksllc.net/?id=10019560 ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66", often rendered simply as "Route 66", is a popular song and rhythm and blues standard, composed in 1946 by American songwriter Bobby Troup. It was first recorded in the same year by Nat King Cole, and was subsequently covered by many artists including Chuck Berry in 1961 and The Rolling Stones in 1964. The song's lyrics follow the path of the U.S. Route 66 highway, which used to run a long distance across the U.S., going from Chicago, Illinois, to Los Angeles, California. The title was suggested to Troup by his first wife, Cynthia. ... Read more
