Product Description
Tracey Ullman has been known for almost 20 years as an award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and producer, well-loved for her eccentric and iconoclastic humor. She is also an avid knitter, and she brings the same freewheeling spirit to her most recent production, a book she created with knitwear designer and yarn-shop owner Mel Clark. Although she has been knitting since the age of four, Ullman was, she says “helpless to make anything other than long, holey scarves” until she met Clark, who taught her how to follow a pattern and knit for real.

Passionate and funny, serious and spirited, Knit 2 Together features lively lessons for beginners and more than 30 original designs for knitters of all abilities and stripes—from witches britches and house slippers to a saucy apron and a table skirt. Complete with sidebars and vibrant color photographs, the book also relates Ullman’s personal stories and reflections on her life in knitting. This one-of-a-kind brainchild of two perfectly matched creators—one a master of knitting, the other a master of wit—is sure to delight veteran and novice alike. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Exciting patterns!!
When I found this book I was looking for inspiration and boy did I find it.The patterns are not your usual cardis and socks, thank God!!! The patterns are different and beautiful.Lots of patterns to choose from and great narration from these two friends who love to knit.Wonderful!!! I highly recommend it....

4-0 out of 5 stars Great patterns but the directions could use some tweaking
I've had this book for a couple of years now and I have knitted the tie, the luxe neckwarmer, the lacy hug-me-tight, and I'm working on the doctor's bag.I love this book. The banter is fun. Some of the patterns are gorgeous.

I wished there had been a chart for the lace edging on the hug-me-tight.I used graph paper to make my own chart which was easier to follow than glancing back and forth at the line by line directions. On the doctor's bag, I knitted one side and then had to rip it out because I misread the directions on when and how many increases to do.That being said, my finished projects have looked like the pictures. The luxe neckwarmer was so easy to knit, that I made several for my sisters and friends.

Yes, I agree as with every book, there are *some* ugly patterns.Personally, I don't like the hats or the messanger bag.But I'm looking forward to knitting the hoodies for the family and the pimlico shrug for myself. On the balance, I would say that the book is worth getting for the patterns, but it is definately not a "how to" book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't look at the cover!
I actually really liked this book. There are quite a few pretty patterns although the size range is small. But the two person sweater is actually included and I can't imagine anyone wasting their time or the yarn to make it even as a joke. Beautiful cardigan and suit are included. I also love the over-sized Doctor's bag purse. My rating is based on the strength of these patterns.

5-0 out of 5 stars A creative collection of knitting projects
I'm a beginner knitter.Bought the book, and the first thing I made was the tea cozy for a gift, then tackled the table runner which now sits proudly on my dining room table.Just finished the felted slippers, and can't even bear to take them off and put shoes on in the morning.Looking forward to making the mice family before tackling the pimlico shrug.I recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
Book arrived in timely manner and in the condition described, which was very good. Very pleased with entire purchase. ... Read more

Product Description
Tracey Ullman has been practicing her unique brand of comedy for American audiences for over a decade. She has fashioned an astonishingly diverse gallery of richly imagined characters -- males as well as females -- each of whom has something profoundly amusing to say about the best & worst of the human condition. In this book, these vivid creations are given an opportunity to spout on such loaded topics as mothers, royalty, & childhood. Blithely ignoring limits & convention, Tracey creates resonant characters whose frailties are at once larger than life & yet uncannily familiar. Lavishly illustrated with photos of the characters in action.Amazon.com Review
From the mouths of Tracey Ullman's myriad personae comes this scrapbook of soliloquies, photographs of characters in action, and yes, paper dolls. Tracey Takes On, adapted from her HBO series of the same name, showcases the protean and prolific actress and comic chameleon. Surely 20 characters and alter egos is some kind of a record. There's Trevor Aylii, gay airline steward; Hope Finch, 19-year-old student at Sweetbriar College ("She is not currently a lesbian, but she's young and impressionable."); Fern Rosenthal, a Long Island homemaker and a member of the Royal Family known only as H.R.H. (Her Royal Highness). Sparing neither Great Britain nor its former colony, Ullman lampoons or impersonates types with aninimitable style that sometimes seems too tackilyreal to produce an innocent giggle--more like an "Oh, no" groan.

First come the character's biographies, followed by commentaries; each character opines on such pressing subjects as royalty, mothers, crime, family, sex, fame, movies, and politics. There's some new material, but most of the book consists of schtick from the first two seasons of the TV series; new is a patently absurd screenplay by Hope Finch and an encounter between H.R.H. and President Clinton. For those who insist on living dangerously, paper dolls of each persona may be cut out and let loose in one's home. What will Tracey Ullman take on next? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tracey Ullman's show translates well to dead tree medium
Tracey Ullman can't be pigeon-holed. Call her a comedienne whose Fox television show launched "The Simpsons," and you short-change herwork as a pop singer, able to attract Paul McCartney to appear in her firstmusic video, and as an actress who has appeared in movies directed byLawrence Kasden, Robert Altman and Woody Allen. She's a comic chameleon inmore ways than one, successfully working in any area she takes a mind to.

Her biggest strength is her ability to slip into a variety ofcharacters, and in her HBO series "Tracey Takes On," from whichthis book is based, Ullman has created 15 women and men, each immediatelyrecognizable and all daffy in their own way.

There's Linda Granger, thesexpot star of the70s TV series "VIP Lounge," making a livingfrom her residues, her autobiography ("I'm Still Here") and herline of Recovery dolls ("each one of them marks a milestone ofsurvival in my life"); Sydney Kross, demon lawyer (motto: "Youname it, we'll sue it"); Rayleen Gibson, "stuntwoman to thestars," who was raised by dingos in the Australian outback and ismarried to a dwarf; and gay airline steward Trevor Ayliss ("hisfavorite destinations remain Amsterdam, San Francisco and the Greek islandof Mykonos").

With them, Ullman creates stories and incidents whosehumor are rooted in character. But she doesn't stop there. "TraceyTakes On" combines series footage, scripts, essays and materialcreated especially for the book to give the characters as much realism asthey appear on the show. A lot of effort went into this book, and theresult is a lovely comic gem of a book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great for the whole family!
We first listened to Rabbit Ears Radio when my 21 year old daughter was about 5 years old on NPR radio. Our whole family fell in love with the program.Pecos Bill is one of our favorites- my 16 year old can quote lines at random.Robin William is at his best and it is hard to imagine this story without his ad-libbing to bring it to life. Tracy Ullman is also fantastic for Puss-in-Boots. I wish they were still making more of them!I bought this for my nephew, now 5, and I purchased another copy for my daughters to have.It is great for the whole family to listen to at quiet time or on rides in the car.Enjoy! ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! This is a history of the animated television series The Simpsons. The show was created by Matt Groening, who conceived of the idea for the Simpsons in the lobby of James L. Brooks's office. He named the characters after his own family members, substituting "Bart" for his own name. The family debuted as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. In 1989, the shorts were spun off into the series The Simpsons which debuted on December 17, 1989. Since then, the series has aired 441 episodes, 20 seasons and The Simpsons Movie was released in 2007. The show was controversial from its beginning. Bart frequently received no punishment for his misbehavior, which led some parents and conservatives to characterize him as a poor role model for children. Several United States public schools even banned The Simpsons merchandise and t-shirts. In the October 1990, Barbara Bush called The Simpsons "the dumbest thing [she] had ever seen". ... Read more

Excerpt: Christopher Eric Hitchens (born April 13, 1949) is an English-American author and journalist. His books, essays, and journalistic career have spanned more than four decades, making him a public intellectual, and a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits. He has been a columnist and literary critic at The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Slate, World Affairs, The Nation, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media outlets. As a political observer, polemicist and self-defined radical with an astute historical knowledge, Hitchens rose to prominence as a fixture of the left-wing publications of both his native United Kingdom and United States. Hitchens's departure from the established political left began in 1989 after what he called the "tepid reaction" of the European left following Ayatollah Khomeini's issue of a fatw calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie. The September 11, 2001 attacks strengthened his embrace of an interventionist foreign policy, and his vociferous criticism of what he called "fascism with an Islamic face." Hitchens's adoption of interventionist foreign policy, employment of the term "Islamofascist" and his notable support for the Iraq War have caused his critics to label him a "neoconservative". Hitchens, however, refuses to embrace this designation, insisting himself to be not "any kind of co...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=228998 ... Read more

Excerpt: "My Girl" is a song by British ska/pop group Madness from their debut album, One Step Beyond.... It was written by Mike Barson. The song was released as a single on 21 December 1979 and spent 10 weeks on the UK Singles Chart peaking at number 3. The song was reissued in 1992 following the success of the reissued "It Must Be Love". It reached number 27 in the UK Singles Chart. The song first made its way into the band's set when they were performing as The Invaders. The first performance of the song came in July 1978, when it was performed by the band at the "Blind Alley Shop" and simply titled "New Song". Barson originally performed lead vocals, and even sang on the demo for the song. This is because Barson wrote the song, about his girlfriend at the time, . However, Suggs took over the vocal duties before long, and sang the album version of the song. When the group performed the song on Top of the Pops in January 1980, they were the first band of the new decade performing on the TV show. The music video for "My Girl" features Madness performing the song at the Dublin Castle, London. For the video, the stage was extended especially, in order to ensure that the band could perform comfortably. A demo version of "My Girl" was released on the B-Side of the 12" version of "The Return of the Los Palmas 7", featuring Mike Barson on vocals. In 2006, the Ordinary Boys released a live recording of the song at the Brixton Academy featuring Suggs, as the B-Side to their single "Nine-2-Five". On 2 May 2008, Graham McPherson (Suggs) and Carl Smyth (Chas Smash) performed a new arrangement by the Pet Shop Boys live at the Heaven in London. They...http://booksllc.net/?id=7451768 ... High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Matthew Abram Groening (pronounced /?gre?n??/, GRAY-ning; born February 15, 1954) is an American cartoonist, screenwriter and producer. He is the creator of the comic strip Life in Hell and the television series The Simpsons and Futurama. Groening made his first professional cartoon sale of Life in Hell to the avant-garde Wet magazine in 1978. The cartoon is still carried in 250 weekly newspapers. Life in Hell caught the attention of James L. Brooks. In 1985, Brooks contacted Groening with the proposition of working in animation for the Fox variety show The Tracey Ullman Show. Originally, Brooks wanted Groening to adapt his Life in Hell characters for the show. Fearing the loss of ownership rights, Groening decided to create something new and came up with a cartoon family, The Simpsons, and named the members after his own parents and sisters ? while Bart was an anagram of the word brat. The shorts would be spun off into their own series: The Simpsons, which has aired 445 episodes. ... Read more

Margaret "Maggie" Simpson is a fictional character in the animated television series The Simpsons. She first appeared on television in the Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night" on April 19, 1987. Maggie was created and designed by cartoonist Matt Groening while he was waiting in the lobby of James L. Brooks's office. She received her first name from Groening's youngest sister. After appearing on The Tracey Ullman Show for three years, the Simpson family was given their own series on the Fox Broadcasting Company which debuted December 17, 1989. Maggie is the youngest child of Marge and Homer, and sister to Bart and Lisa. She is often seen sucking on her pacifier, and, when she walks, she trips over her clothing and falls on her face. Because she cannot talk, Maggie is the least seen and heard in the Simpson family. ... Read more

Excerpt: Sir Noël Peirce Coward (16 December 1899 26 March 1973) was an English playwright, composer, director, actor and singer, known for his wit, flamboyance, and what Time magazine called "a sense of personal style, a combination of cheek and chic, pose and poise". Born in Teddington, a suburb of London, Coward attended a dance academy in London as a child, making his professional stage début at the age of eleven. As a teenager he was introduced into the high society in which most of his plays would be set. Coward achieved enduring success as a playwright, publishing more than 50 plays from his teens onwards. Many of his works, such as Hay Fever, Private Lives, Design for Living, Present Laughter and Blithe Spirit, have remained in the regular theatre repertoire. He composed hundreds of songs, in addition to well over a dozen musical theatre works (including the operetta Bitter Sweet and comic revues), poetry, several volumes of short stories, the novel Pomp and ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=16764285 ...
