Excerpt: Peter Jones (January 1, 1802 June 29, 1856) was an Ojibwa Methodist minister, translator, chief and author from Burlington Heights, Upper Canada. His Ojibwa name was Kahkewquonby (Gakiiwegwanebi in the Fiero spelling), which means " Waving Feathers". In Mohawk, he was called Desagondensta, meaning "he stands people on their feet". In his youth his band of Mississaugas had been on the verge of destruction. As a preacher and a chieftain, as a role model and as a liaison to governments, his leadership helped his people survive contact with Europeans. Jones was raised by his mother Tuhbenahneequay in the traditional culture and religion of the Mississauga Ojibwas until the age of 14. After that, he went to live with his father Augustus Jones, a Welsh-born United Empire Loyalist. There he learnt the customs and language of the white Christian settlers of Upper Canada and was taught how to farm. Jones converted to Methodism at age 21 after attending a camp-meeting with his half sister. Methodist leaders in Upper Canada recognised his potential as a bridge between the white and Indian communities and recruited him as a preacher. Wonderful book
The book has numerous full color pictures of Mr. Johnson's paintings.He goes into a lot of detail about being a painter, what it means, the work and studies involved, etc.There are closeups of his painting strokes so we can see exactly how he paints.I bought the book from Amazon and will read and reread it endlessly.

Good book for painters
I paint in oil for many years so I didn't "discover" anything new in this book. I think, the book is an excellent choice for the intermediate level oil painter. One of the best chapters is about the brush strokes which show big magnification of artist's strokes on the canvas and then the same brush strokes without any magnification in the context of the whole picture. This is very educative material and I highly recommend this book.

This is a wonderful book. The photograpy is beautiful. It is not a howto book, but is very very helpful. I am very happy I have it!

Robert Johnson's first book is beautiful and well written
Mr. Johnson has very interesting philisophical views about painting, and the book has many close up color pictures of his color and brushstroke technique.There are no step by step demonstrations, and technical application goes the classical painting approach with emphasis on drawing skills.Many good tips and insight, but more of a theory book than application in my opinion.I have one of his videos, and find this much more helpful in application.He is a very pleasant man and talented painter. ... From the supplier: Columbia University Prof. William Vickery received the Nobel prize in economics in Oct. 1996. Among his major contributions to the field of economics were off-peak pricing schemes for lesser congestion, auction bidding to reflect the true value of a commodity and tax schedules that can motivate the greatest work effort.
