Product Description

Pink Floyd's The Wall is one of the most iconic and imaginative albums in the history of rock music, endlessly discussed and dissected. The stage show was one of the most ambitious productions ever conceived and the film instantly became a cult classic, revered by Floyd fans the world over. In September 2010, Roger Waters is bringing The Wall Live back during a 40-city tour of the USA.

The concept of The Wall is loosely based on the life and experiences of Roger Waters and the stage performances and film were created in close collaboration with Gerald Scarfe. Including exclusive interviews with Roger, as well as surviving Pink Floyd members David Gilmour and Nick Mason, this is the story of Gerald’s collaboration with Pink Floyd from Wish You Were Here to Roger Waters’ The Wall Live 2010.

The book follows Gerald’s relationship with Pink Floyd, starting in 1973 and traces the evolution of The Wall in all its various forms – the album, the stage show, the film and the 2010 show. Gerald shares his experiences with the band – how they met, the professional and personal relationships, the concepts and ideas behind the creation of The Wall as well as how the album was realized on the stage and in front of the camera.

The book is structured chronologically and covers the following:
• How Gerald met Pink Floyd: A Long Drawn Out Trip
• Gerald’s collaboration with Pink Floyd before The Wall: Wish You Were Here and Animals
The Wall album
The Wall Live
The Wall film
The Wall Live in Berlin
The Wall Live 2010

The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall is beautifully illustrated and contains hundreds of unseen photos, sketches and props that have never been seen before, as well as the contents of an exclusive interview with Roger Waters, other band members, musician and Wall actor Bob Geldolf, director Alan Parker, and complete lyrics.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
In one word: brilliant!
It tells you all there's to know about the graphics behind, in front and on the Wall.
As a Pink Floyd fan the only reason not to buy this book is being broke because you bought to many tickets to the 2010/2011 the Wall tour...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Floyd Fans
Gerry's book provides a great in-depth look into the design process that went into The Wall album, stage show, and movie (also includes pre and post-Wall material, including art for Roger Waters' current tour). HIGHLY recommended to any Floyd fan.

The book is full-colour and full of great pictures & illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars The memories, the music, the madness, the Wall!
An enjoyable read and visual from Gerald Scarfe's perspective describing his classic drawings and directed animation that brought so much of Roger Water's The Wall to such enriching life.Scarfe describes the manner in which he began working with Pink Floyd and there is considerable amount of discussions between Scarfe and Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason.Just saw Roger Water's rendition of The Wall live in Cleveland last week and Scarfe's visuals continue to astound.Looking forward to seeing more of the same in St. Louis, Columbus and Detroit. The visuals simply enhance the music and this book gives the opportunity to understand how it all came together from initial inspirations for the Wish You Were Here tour thru The Wall and solo Waters material. If you enjoy The Wall and its visuals (includes some concert photos from the 1980 and 1981 tour), or the cult favorite movie - read and enjoy the visuals of this book.If you really enjoy The Wall or have even a passive interest in same, see Roger Water's tour of The Wall. It's extremely enjoyable and unlike anything you've seen (unless you've seen Pink Floyd or Waters before).Sorry for getting sidetracked, but you can maximize your experience. Check this book out. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars mildly helpful
One of the good points about this book is that it is inexspensive. But a downside is that there are alot of typos probably over 30, and it's a very short book for so many typos. Most of the book isn't anything you dont know if you look on the internet, there is a description the the cpat, and he mentions written exams. I didn't learn what it's like to be a firefighter only that it took the author 5 years to become one. The best part of the book in my opinion is the description of the ideas behind the oral interview questions, which is something that is important to be prepared for. But why so many typos I'm begining to think I know why it took 5 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book to tell us not only how to become a career firefighter, but also what firefighting life is about.
Being a career firefighter, I am often asked how to become a firefighter. Finally there's a book that gives those interested in becoming a firefighter a step by step logical process to that great career. Roger goes into details about what departemtns look for in a candidate and a potential employee. This book is full of great advice from a common sense prospective that is easy to read and follow.
Good Job, I will reference all future inquires to this book ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great music book for an even better album
In overall a really nice addition to my music library. Be warned that no guitar tabs are included (just chords diagrams).

4-0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful moralwork
Waters has made an excellent solo album in this(his most recent solo offereing). He has always been a master of the song concept and the concept album, but here he ties together the problems of our ninties world in mediascams and self-centredness. He hits the nail on the head with 'WatchingT.V.' - remember the death of Princess Diana yearsafter this album'srelease! Certainly the media turn our attentions to their subjects and awayfrom others which they do not choose. The golden dollar, of course, is theincentive.

The music is less Floyd cliche than Gilmour's modern'Momentary Lapse/Division Bell' works, as waters gives himself room forexperimentation (hence he has just finished an opera!!)

Waters seems tohave got over his ego problems and accepted his status as an intriguingwordsmith/songwriter who can still shock and surprise even his faithfulfan-base. Continued references to war, however, are getting a little dull-I thought he had dealt with these issues on disc on 'The Final Cut'!However, this is still a great album, and indeed 'one in the eye' forerstwhile band-mates!

3-0 out of 5 stars This book solves the enigma of the 'ampf cd' - excellent!!
Not witstanding the whole 'strong cheese' story, Roger has outdone himself once again with this inspired album and highly anticipated book. not as good as his work on TDB and MLoR, but you can really feel his wholepersonal reflections and ties come strong through this work.A perfectcompanion to all the music - one can feel the movement of his personal tiesto that certain 'sphinx' ... excellent! ... This book provides the latest NMR and MRI techniques for those researchers who have an interest in relationships between water and: *chemical reactivity *microbial activity *physiochemical properties and changes *structural properties and changes in foods and biological materials In addition, the authors emphasize experimental techniques and data interpretation skills for the study of mobility of water and its role in processing and storage of foods and biological materials. Authors Ruan and Chen explain how the "state of water" concept will greatly add to the reader's understanding of the role of water in chemical, physical and microbial changes occurring in foods and biological materials. Understanding the relationships between water and chemical reactivity, microbial activity, and physiochemical and structural properties and changes in foods is an important key to effective food R&D, as well as quality control in processing and storage. This book provides advanced information on these relationships using the tools of NMR and MRI. Emphasis is placed on experimental techniques and data interpretation skills for the study of mobility of water and its role in processing and storage of foods.
