Product Description
Myron Bolitar hasn’t heard from Terese Collins since their torrid affair ended ten years ago, so her desperate phone call from Paris catches him completely off guard. In a shattering admission, Terese reveals the tragic story behind her disappearance – her struggles to get pregnant, the greatest moment of her life when her baby was born...and the fatal accident that robbed her of it all: her marriage, her happiness, and her beloved only daughter.

Now a suspect in the murder of her ex-husband in Paris, Terese has nowhere else to turn for help. Myron heeds the call. But then a startling piece of evidence turns the entire case upside down, laying bare Terese’s long-buried family secrets...and the very real possibility that her daughter may still be alive.

In grave danger from unknown assailants in a country where nothing is as it seems, Myron and Terese race to stay a step ahead of Homeland Security, Interpol, and Mossad. Soon they are working at breakneck pace not only to learn what really happened to Terese’s long-lost little girl – but to uncover a sinister plot with shocking global implications.

4-0 out of 5 stars Myron is fun.
The character that Harlan Coben has created, Myron Bolitar, is up there with the characters of James Patterson and Robert B. Parker.Bolitar is just a big goof that has a gigantic heart, but he and his friends who surround him are not ones in which to pick a fight.Bolitar has some of the best self deprecating humor and is just a whole lot of fun to read. This book did get a bit confusing at times, because I felt it jumped around a bit much for me.But I still would highly recommend it just for the sheer pleasure of spending some time with Coben's wonderful characters and how they interact with each other. Good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
The richness of his characters and the twists of his plots in addition to just great writing and storytelling has Coben may favorite contemporary writer.I think Myron Bolitar is one of the great continuing characters of current fiction but Coben's other books are even better.Write on and don't sell your name to lessor talents!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars COBEN BOOK
THIS WAS A GIFT AND DID NOT READ IT....YET.
HOPEFULLY I WILL BORROW IT WHEN HE IS DONE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story-edge-of-your seat every moment!
This book by Harlan Coben, was exciting from the first page to the last.I couldn't put it down. The twists and turns were riveting. It was a great thriller to read and enjoy! Can't wait to read his next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars How can Coben...
... be always this entertaining? He has got a gift, that is it. In this murder mystery Myron Bolitar resurfaces. A long-lost lover, Terese Collins, calls him unexpectedly and this very call sends Bolitar and his associates into a whirlwind escalation of twists & turns. Terese seems to be in very serious trouble. She is alone in Paris. Will Myron please get there as soon as possible from the USA even though it has been years since he last heard from her? You bet he will. And once he gets there, hell breaks loose. Terese is agitated. She has been contacted by her ex husband Rick with disturbing yet-to-be-revealed information. She does not know how to interpret Rick's phone call. And why in Paris??

Hard to get into details about the plot without revealing essential bits. All I can say is, despite it being quite far-fetched it manages to be believable and it will make you gasp more than once. So read this book if you like the genre, or if you have been a long-time fan of Mr. Coben such as I have. The only criticism that I have about Coben's books is that sometimes I find it hard to believe that the main characters (in this case I am referring to Bolitar) always seem so sure of themselves despite very awkward and dangerous situations. He always seems to have an answer ready, which is, I think, quite unrealistic. But a part from that, just like its predecessors, I found this book impossible to put down. I've skipped a couple of lunches to carry on with the reading. No more than that, as the plot is so intriguing, you shall finish this book in no longer than a couple of days. So no, I do not agree with the negative reviews here, not entirely anyway. I think this books is as entertaining as ever, and I wish every buyer to enjoy the suspense! And now I shall get caught in... "Caught", next in line...

Three Cassettes, 5 hrs. 15 min.
Performance by Steven Weber

She was his great love, the woman he’d adored since they were children. But a few months into their marriage, Elizabeth Beck was abducted, then found dead in a ditch, the brutalized victim of a serial killer. Not even the killer’s capture and conviction could bring comfort to her devastated husband, Dr. David Beck.

Now, eight years later, Beck’s life is ripped apart once again, this time by a mysterious e-mail suggesting that Elizabeth may still be alive. It could be just a cruel joke, but Beck, still grieving, cannot abandon hope. The trail to the truth is filled with treachery, and Beck uncovers one terrible deed after another, some recent, some stretching back to before Elizabeth’s abduction. What’s the most frightening of all is that the trail leads directly to him, setting him up as the prime suspect in the crimes.

Now, as Beck eludes the police, he must find his hidden enemy, a person without remorse who's using him as a pawn to keep the truth covered up. In this deadly game of lies and manipulation, Beck must decide whom to trust and whom to fear—because one wrong move could end his search for Elizabeth and cost him his own life.

Amazon.com Review
David Beck has rebuilt his life since his wife's murder eight years ago, finishing medical school and establishing himself as apediatrician, but he's never forgotten the woman he fell in love with insecond grade. And when a mysterious e-mail arrives on the anniversaryof their first kiss, with a message and an image that leads him towonder whether Elizabeth might still be alive, Beck will stop at nothingto find the truth that's eluded him for so many years. A powerfulbillionaire is equally determined to make sure his role in herdisappearance never comes to light, even if it means destroying an innocent man.

In David Beck, Harlan Coben, the author of the popular series starring sports agent Myron Bolitar (DarkestFear et al.) has created a protagonist who shares many of Bolitar'sbest qualities--he's a decent, generous, gentle guy whose loyalty to those he loves is unquestionable. So when he discovers that people he was close to may be responsible not only for Elizabeth's murder but also the "accidental" death of his father, Beck's sense of betrayal is as understandable to the reader as hisuncharacteristically violent reaction. Coben is a skillful storyteller witha gift for creating likable characters caught up in circumstances thatilluminate their complex emotional lives and deep humanity. This should bethe thriller that breaks this talented writer out of the mystery genre andearns him the recognition he deserves. --Jane Adams ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite!
I recently read this book cover to cover one night while I was babysitting.I'm not known to read in that way, so that speaks volumes about how great it was (for me, anyway).Prior to reading the novel I had never heard of Harlan Coben, so I did not know what to expect.I was pleasantly surprised and cannot wait to see the movie and read more of his books.I would highly recommend the book to anyone. It is an easy read with a story line that is unlike others that I have read before.

4-0 out of 5 stars enjoyed
Very good book - good characters, good plot with a few good twists and a good ending. This book was an easy read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book
I enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. It is a fascinating story. I found the story to be full of excitement and thrills. This is the first Harlan Coben book that I have read, and I am sure that it will not be my last.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay thriller, but too many plot twists
Tell No One is one of those edge-of-your-seat thrillers that make you want to ignore all of your responsibilities i.e. children, chores, work, etc., etc., just so you can keep on reading. Seriously, I did not want to put this book down. It's a little less than 400 pages, but they really flew by. And that's really how I like my mysteries. I don't want them to drag, I want to care about the characters, and I want a plot and resolution that's not too simple yet not too complex. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I guess the reason I gave Tell No One three stars instead of four is because of the plot twists. Now, don't get me wrong, I like plot twists as much as the next mystery-thriller fan. It's way better than a great sounding plot that has you guessing the killer in about fifty pages [glares at The Vanishing of Katharina Linden]. However, there is such a thing as too much. When the first plot twist came up, I was like "Whoa!". When the next one came it went "Intrigue!". Then, they just kept popping up in a span of fifty pages, which were the last ones, and then I was like "Don't think too much about it otherwise you'll find tons of little plot holes that would blow that theory to the water..." This book would've been a bit better if one of those "plot twists" had gone unexplored. I'm not picky to one in particular. But after a while it becomes a bit mind-bending (and not in that good way).

So, again, I liked Tell No One. It flew by for me and I really was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I also really loved the characters and thought Beck was a really great, sympathetic, hero. However, too many plot twists really made this a "suspend belief just for a couple of seconds" type of book. But like I mentioned at the beginning, 2 out of 3 really isn't that bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate suspenseful
Caution: This book is addicting.I couldn't put it down from the moment I picked it up.If I did put it down for even a brief moment I couldn't stop thinking about it.
After you think that you've solved a mystery another one is thrown at.There were many twists and I almost couldn't keep up.There was a rare mix of characters in this book. This book was incredible and literally had me at the edge of my seat.I highly recommend this book! ... Read more

Product Description
In the late summer of a long ago year, a killer arrived in a small city. His name was Alton Turner Blackwood, and in the space of a few months he brutally murdered four families. His savage spree ended only when he himself was killed by the last survivor of the last family, a fourteen-year-old boy.

Half a continent away and two decades later, someone is murdering families again, recreating
in detail Blackwood’s crimes. Homicide detective John Calvino is certain that his own family — his wife and three children — will be targets in the fourth crime, just as his parents and sisters were victims on that distant night when he was fourteen and killed their slayer.

As a detective, John is a man of reason who deals in cold facts. But an extraordinary experience convinces him that sometimes death is not a one-way journey, that sometimes the dead return.

Here is ghost story like no other you have read. In the Calvinos, Dean Koontz brings to life a family that might be your own, in a war for their survival against an adversary more malevolent than any he has yet created, with their own home the battleground. Of all his acclaimed novels, none exceeds What the Night Knows in power, in chilling suspense, and in sheer mesmerizing storytelling.

5-0 out of 5 stars His best and scariest in a long time
John Calvino is a police detective with a secret. Twenty years ago an insane serial killer, Alton Turner Blackwood, murdered John's family as well as three other families in his town. John, who was fourteen at the time, shot Blackwood in the face even as the madman was forming the words of the promise to finish what he'd started, after John grew up and had his own family. "Someday you'll be a daddy..." Now a husband, and father of three precocious pre-adolescents, he has reason to believe the man he killed twenty years ago has returned from the dead to fulfill a promise of rape and murder.

Not knowing where to turn for help, John is afraid of what his friends, relatives, coworkers, even his wife will think if he tries to express his fear and ask for help in stopping a dead man who seems to already be haunting his house and stalking his children in anticipation of a deadly anniversary that's coming up fast. When he turns to the church for assistance, possibly in the form of an exorcism, the priest blames John's fears on post trauma because of the incident twenty years ago, and suggests a psychiatrist and a donation to the local food bank. At this point, John knows it will be up to him and his family to stand alone against the threat. What happens after that is a fairly hair-raising battle for John's children, during which several unusual elements enter the fray, including the ghost of his family's dear departed golden retriever, Willard.

Koontz introduces an interesting dilemma to the story when John begins to wonder if, on the one hand, his mind is turning events he is experiencing now into false evidence of a dead killer's promise, or if on the other hand his twenty years of fearing this event has opened the door to the killer's ghost and actually brought it all to pass. Is it all in his head, or can we conjure demons by invitation, even inadvertently? The answer to why this is happening is of course the answer of how to stop it, and the clock is ticking down on his children as John scrambles for the answer. I am missing many of my nails as a result of the second half of this book.

Dean Koontz's stories always sit smack at the intersection of Weird and Main. He writes about normal, extraordinarily nice people who are called upon to do battle with extraordinary evil - the evil of devils and demons, often by invoking thepower of angels and God....and children and golden retrievers. In this way, What the Night Knows shares most in common with Hideaway, a book he wrote nearly 20 years ago. It also brought to mind Darkfall, which in turn reminds me of TickTock, which just means Dean Koontz may have a common theme running through his books, but oh boy, does he have a wide variety of ways of developing it. Jane Austin wrote formula fiction, but I don't think anyone wants to criticize her for it, except to wish she had written more of it. Dean Koontz (and JD Robb, and John Grisham, and Robert Parker, etc. ad infinitum) does too. It's not a bad thing. For me it means I know what to expect from his books, and since I like his writing (and his dimples) I am seldom disappointed in my choice.

3-0 out of 5 stars A BIT PREDICTABLE BUT PLENTY OF THRILLS AND SHIVERS
Dean Koontz has been around for a long time. Ten of his hardcover novels and fourteen of his paperbacks have reached the number one slot on the New York Times bestseller list. His suspense thrillers, often with supernatural elements in them, sell by the bushel load. In 2008, Koontz tied with John Grisham as the highest earning author with $25 million gross earnings. Koontz writes formula fiction but he knows how to put the parts together.

Stylistically, he's never bad but never that outstanding either. He makes few stylistic gaffes, although one in the early pages of this book made me wince: a receptionist in a mental institution/prison is described as having "a mouth ... as severe as that of an iguana." The straining for effect falls flat.

You don't expect originality with Koontz, but you do expect thrills. He knows how to make you shiver. That's what he does in this supernatural thriller about a tormented detective, a demonic serial killer, and a family under attack.

John Calvino's family -his mother, father and sister--were slaughtered by a serial killer twenty years ago. John killed the murderer, Alton Turner Blackwood, narrowly escaping death himself. But the trauma has left him frozen him inside. Twenty years later, the fourteen-year-old boy who escaped death himself but couldn't save his family coexists inside his head with the now grown and happily married husband and father, a successful police detective with a flair for solving the most difficult cases.

Then a young boy, Billy Lucas, who is also fourteen, with no prior record of violent behavior, slaughters his own family the same way that Alton slaughtered Calvino's twenty years before Calvino interviews him in the forensic prison where he is incarcerated: lets slip information about Calvino that he should not know. How did he get the information? Odd things begin to happen -to Calvino, his three children. Phones ring, bells peel in the distance, digital clocks switch to twelve o'clock and blink without stopping, a shadowy form slips across a mirror behind the heads of Calvino's daughters.

From there on it's all down hill. Horrific things happen. The good guy -Calvino- triumphs in the end but at what cost? One of the monsters survives, thwarted but ready to move on to a new hunting ground. ... Read more
