Product Description

As the coldest winter on record blows into Sugarcreek, will three hearts have the courage to discover the life that God wants for them?

In the small Amish town of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Joshua knows what's expected of him: to work at the family store and to finally marry Gretta, whom he's courted for years. But when a new English family moves in next door—and their teenage daughter catches his eye—Joshua wonders if his future plans are too firmly set in stone.

Gretta is shocked by the sudden change in Joshua. Their arguments followed by tense silences feel too much like the frosty atmosphere at home between her parents. When Roland begins to take an interest in her, she considers what her life might be like with Joshua out of the picture. With Roland, Gretta would have steady, kind companionship...although she knows she could never love him.

When Lilly moved to Sugarcreek, she never imagined she'd be enamored with the Amish way of life—and especially with her handsome new neighbor, Joshua. But she guards a secret that will surely drive him away, one that compelled her family to leave their old home and move to Sugarcreek in the first place: Lilly is pregnant.

5-0 out of 5 stars winter's awakening
Working on marriage, wondering where you stand in a relationship,if it's worth it are all definetly real to life questions.she's a good writer. I enjoy reading her books as much as wanda brunstetters, etc. all amish books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome reading
This will keep your interest. You wont want to put it down. So just get a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy your adventure. Verynice reading with Jesus input. Awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars A delightful story, wonderful characters and an amazing setting.
"Winter's Awakening was a breathe of fresh air for me. It was refreshing to read a story about young love that didn't involve an overly immoral theme. Granted one of the main characters had committed an indiscretion and landed her family in Sugarcreek to escape the humiliation that would come in their hometown; it still focuses on more important things. Things like making the right choices, accepting others' faults, and growing up.

"Every character in this story is wonderful and I loved being able to hear from each of the main characters. They all were at a stage in their lives where they needed to make some difficult decisions and become adults. Being what I consider a fairly spiritual person myself I really appreciated Gretta's character, her quiet thoughtful ways and her desire to listen to God. And though each of the characters eventually acknowledged their own need to rely on God I never felt I was being 'preached' to. I have to say, that was so nice!

"One of the other wonderful bits about this story that I loved is that it was in Ohio. It is in fact somewhere that holds a special place in my heart after spending a year and a half long mission for my church in the areas central and southern Ohio. It was wonderful being transported back to a time and place that I fell in love with. I still recall the buggy's riding down the road and the Amish store just within walking distance of one of my residences. Shelley did a magnificent job of describing the scenery and beauty that encompass that entire area, somewhere I long to visit again.

"All in all I would highly recommend this book. It was a quick, fun and meaningful read. And as I said before, refreshing in today's market that's saturated with immorality, it was nice to read a book that wasn't preachy, but still morally based. Another great thing is that it's the first in a series with the second book, Spring's Renewal, due out in May. I can't wait!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Amish reading
I have read many Amish books.Shelley Gray is comparable to Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter in covering the amish and writing true romance/mystery.I thoroughly enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Winter's Awakening

Joshua thought he had his future all mapped out. He'd work in his father's store, marry Gretta, and they'd have babies... but then a new English family moves in next door, and their young daughter catches Josh's eye. Suddenly, Josh feels trapped. What if he isn't meant to marry Gretta? If he can look at another woman, then Gretta must not be the one for him. So, he breaks off the relationship.

Gretta is shocked by the sudden changes in Joshua. When Josh breaks things off, another Amish man, Roland, is quick to move in. Roland is calm, quiet, and kind, but he is not the man that Gretta loves. Still, she needs to give Roland a chance.

Lilly is new to Sugarcreek, but she is there in shame as her parents are hiding her away until after the birth of her baby. Lilly is fascinated by the Amish next door, and especially Joshua. He's like no boy she's ever met before.

WINTER'S AWAKENING is the first book in Ms. Gray's newest series, Seasons of Sugarcreek. I enjoyed getting to know Joshua, Gretta, and Lilly, and even some of the secondary characters. At first I thought that Josh acted a bit immaturely, but he is only nineteen, and there aren't that many really mature nineteen year olds out there.

Gretta is a sweet young lady, thrown into a tailspin by Josh's decision, and her subsequent meeting of "the other woman" but she still was kind and gentle with people, whether she wanted to be or not. I really appreciated her attitude.

I enjoyed reading WINTER'S AWAKENING and the ending is completely sweet. I'm not one hundred percent certain Ms. Gray got all her Amish facts right, but it is a good story. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book as well as a sample chapter of the next book in the series, Spring's Renewal.

5-0 out of 5 stars a book of Manners.
The three little dragon's are back along with the good Knight, but this time they are very cold and the Good Knight offers them a warm castle with a glowing fire, but can the little dragons remember to mind their manners during the very important ball at the castle?

This Good knight story is written at a higher reading level than, Good Night, Good Knight and Get well, Good Knight making it a better read for advanced 2nd grade readers rather than beginner 2nd grade readers. This is a great read-a-loud for children 2 and up with colorful illustrations and a lesson about manners and how important using your manners can be.

Also, great with a castle theme.

5-0 out of 5 stars This totally zany story was a lot of fun and it did have a lesson to impart to mischievous boys and girls!
Three little dragons were sitting in a cave in the forest and they were very, very cold and shivering up a storm. The only thing smiling was the little snowman just outside the cave. Their teeth were "chattering so loudly" that it could be heard "all the way to the king's castle."The Good Knight came over and invited them to come to the castle. His only request was that they "mind their manners." That didn't seem like a hard thing to do,

There was a big fancy party going on and they were nice and toasty by the fire.A bit more fire would be just the ticket and so they blew into the fireplace and you can guess what happened.Ahhhh, cough, cough! They ran to douse the fire with a punch bowl and got the Good Knight instead.Things just seemed to go from bad to worse as the evening wore on.They tried to behave, but that chandelier was mighty inviting. "COWABUNGA!YIPEE!YAHOO!"Now they were really in trouble and how were they going to get out of it?

This totally zany story was a lot of fun and it did have a lesson to impart to mischievous boys and girls. The story line flowed very smoothly and the art work meshed very well with the tone.I especially loved the wide-eyed little dragons. If you have an imp or two or three in your home or classroom you might want to consider a copy of this amusing little tale!

5-0 out of 5 stars fun and educational
We love this book! It's fun to read and look at with great illustrations. It teaches the importance of manners, how easy it is to use them and how far you get by being polite. My kids are almost 3 and get a kick out of "those crazy dragons".

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read!
Charming drawings with lots of details - my 3-year old daughter reads it with us at least three times a day. ... Read more

Jon Montgomery started skeleton racing when he lived in Calgary where he worked as an auctioneer not far from Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. Sometime in 2002 Montgomery visited the track with his parents where a skeleton race was being held. Montgomery was immediately hooked with the sport and started racing competitively not long after watching it in Calgary.
