Editorial Review

Product Description
In 1976, Clark Wolf ran a little cheese shop at the base of Nob Hill in San Francisco; in 1980 he became the manager of the San Francisco branch of the legendary Oakville Grocery. While the rest of America was on the verge of a decade of a morbid fear of butterfat, Wolf was looking for a source of local fresh mozzarella and newly devoted to the joys of rice flour-rubbed teleme and four-year-old Wisconsin cheddar. Today, we are all knee-deep in bocconcini and fresh goat cheese, and Wolf is a restaurant and food consultant. But glorious cheese, particularly American cheese, is still his passion.

In American Cheeses: The Best Regional, Artisan, and Farmhouse Cheeses, Who Makes Them, and Where to Find Them, Wolf gives us an in-depth look at the art and craft of cheese across the United States, and documents in words and beautiful black-and-white photographs the story of the talented and committed women and men who create this dairy ambrosia. He shares his expertise (with a touch of attitude) on how cheese is made, how to store it, and how to serve and enjoy it. Dividing the country into sections -- The Northeast and New England, The South, The Middle West, The Wild West -- he explores the cheese-making communities, discussing the kind of cheeses that are specific to each of the four sections of the country and profiling dozens of the most accomplished cheesemakers, from well-known national brands to the creators of small-batch, hand-crafted rarities. Each profile lists the kinds of cheeses available and contact information for producers and farms. At the end of each regional section is a selection of delectable recipes that showcase the best cheese of that area, from A Perfect Pimento Cheese of the American South to Blue Cheese Pralines from the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but limited
I enjoyed reading this book and learned a bit about cheese, but the cheese information is quite limited. The bulk of the book is a list of cheese makers with very limited information about the cheeses they produce, and the information will probably be out-of-date before long. The most useful thing I learned was that shrink-wrapped cheese, like many vendors offer or if you use a Foodsaver, will protect the cheese and allowed it to continue aging, but if all you want is a firmer cheese, use wax paper or cheese wrap which allows the cheese to dry out but retain its current flavor. Plastic wraps keep the surface too moist and encourage spoilage.

2-0 out of 5 stars A little self absorbed
Some of the more notable boutique producers were omitted or given a too brief review. Not a lot of new ground covered.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
There is a good deal to like about "American Cheeses", by Clark Wolf, but it depends on what you're looking for. I had thought the book would be more concerned with cheese itself....the art of cheesemaking, how cheeses differ, etc., and yes, the book begins with just that. In fact, it's a small part of the book but it's the best part.

Yet most of "American Cheeses" is made up of the author's favorite cheese places in the U.S. to visit and contains LOTS of recipes. In fact, the recipes more or less overwhelm the book, serving as a filler to the rest. Had the author taken us more in-depth about cheese as a history and as a product itself, I think he would have been more successful.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a friend we have in Cheeses
And he does a great job of introducing us to the farmers, cheese makers and friends he has met along the way. It's not a cheese primer, but a glimpse into how some of the folks who bring us a pretty common product, chese, also care for their animals and the Earth we all share.

Great stories well told. With recipes! ... Read more

Jetfighter III just isn't the sort of game that allowsa book to tell you exactly how to win. Which is good, because that'snot why you buy a flight-simulator/dogfight game, is it? To gain theedge, but keep the thrill, you want the information that helps yououtsmart the enemy, and Scott Wolf gives you that. 4-0 out of 5 stars A cute book if you're a Disneyland fan
This is a fun book-- the premise is, a page shows an extreme close up of something from Disneyland (for example, the crest above the castle, or the lions near the Haunted Mansion). You have to figure out what it is; turn the page to reveal a larger photo that reveals the location. Kind of neat :-) ... Read more

Product Description
It is the golden age of the second Napoleonic era.In 1844,paddle and steam replace wind and sail and Napoleon Bonaparte is President of the United Republics of South America.Wars for independence and unification, wars against Spain, Portugal, and the republics themselves, are at an end.Internal conflicts, economic strife, and border disputes were removing themselves from the battlefields and settling in the more contentious and convoluted halls of government. After twenty-three years, the continent and even the world has finally reconciled itself to Napoleon’s rule – Napoleon’s South America.

Eligus Bronsan, a sea officer and mercenary who has known nothing but war, must make a place in a world that has no use for him.Under the auspices of the Continental Survey, Le Bureau Examen Continental, Bronsan and his sailors are employed on a mission of exploration that turns into a deadly quest from the jungles of the Amazon, to the British Falklands, through the Straights of Magellan, and finally north to Concepción, Napoleon’s seat of power. ... Product Description
In 1991 Linda and Scott were brought together by a destiny even they could not understand. Their lives were changed forever in that moment, for a crack was made in the wall of time and they were compelled to pass through the opening. This is a true story about a life the Authors shared over 400 years ago. The things related here are memories, not myths or fairy tales. And though the story is a beautiful one, the real Purpose for the existence of this book is to help you to understand that the prophesies and revelations given in visions so long ago are affecting your life now. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wolf Song Visions - 2nd Reading
The essence of the book thrummed my senses. I was moved anew by the intensity, sincerity, awareness, power, magic and love of the story.

That Scott and Linda have been able to integrate this "knowing" into their current incarnations speaks volumes about their powerful spirits. Their amazing journey continues!

What a blessing they both are to Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants. One hundred thousand thank-yous; the second time around was even richer and yummier than the first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something to consider for any metaphysical studies collection
Past lives are of endless fascination to many. "Wolf Song Visions: The Earthwalk of Lela and Kahla Remembered" consists of recollections of the shared past life of four hundred years ago, of authors Linda Reade and Scott Reade. Of especial interest to past life phenomena students, professional or amateur, "Wolf Song Visions" is something to consider for any metaphysical studies collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars This book is an easy read.
The Earthwalk of Lela and Kahla Remembered is purported to be the true story of Linda and Scott Reade. For the reader to accept the thesis of truth he/she needs to be well versed in Native American (Lakhota) religion. In my opinion this book should be listed as fiction. As a work of fiction it would be entertaining but as a work of nonfiction it fails.

The plot surrounds the love of Lela and Kahla. They are "soulmates."Their love survives over 400 years. They were reunited in the body of Linda and Scott.Journals and dreams are used to support their theory.

This book is an easy read. The story is beautiful if looked at as fiction. This is definitely New Age, Reincarnation, and Native American beliefs.

BOOK REVIEW by Leigh-Ann Lemire

Some subjects have been rejected in decades past. Living in a more modern society, taboo subjects have started to be spoken about. One such subject has been living other lifetimes. Sometimes Hollywood will turn out a movie on the subject as entertainment but it is hardly ever that one gets to read a thorough accounting of a life lived in the past.

Wolf Song Visions is one book that will keep you turning the pages with not one but two accounts of past lives with the two people able to recount in detail the life that was shared over three hundred years ago.

Not only was the lifetime recalled and written in detail, there are many messages that are to be learned. One especially is that Mother Earth did have an advanced civilization three hundred years ago - the Native American Indian. You will be impressed by the methods that were used by this incredible people to live, to heal and to flourish along with nature. It was lessons that the white man did not learn then and now has to in order to solve the predicaments created by "modern" man.

You will want to read this book as it is an interesting page turning story. You will be impressed by the details, the care that was taken to live well while taking care of the earth and most importantly, you will want to read the story to find out the special message.

He got a major break in wrestling journalism when he began penning articles for Wade Keller's Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter from 1992 to 1994. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun little book.
This is a fun little book. Basically, it has a full page photo of a close-up of somewhere in the Disneyland Park, and you are to try and guess where the picture is from. For example it has a close up of a gargoyle that seems to be in a building, but on later review he is on the side of a coffin in a scene from the Haunted Mansion interior (I won't say where in the interior). It is a lot of fun for Disneyland fans that want to test their knowledge of the park, but it is also a great way to get see some pictures of places in the park that are not featured in any other book. Glossy hardcover at 7.5"" x 8.5", best quality paper, with high quality binding, published without a dustcover, it is about 50 pages. ... Read more

Product Description
The names Albrecht Dürer and Hans Holbein the Younger evoke the dazzling accomplishments of Renaissance panel painting and printmaking, but they may not summon images of stained glass. Nevertheless, Dürer, Holbein, and their southern German and Swiss contemporaries designed some of the most splendid works in the history of the medium. This lavish volume is a comprehensive survey of the contribution to stained glass made by these extraordinarily gifted artists and the equally talented glass painters who rendered their compositions in glass.

Included are discussions of both monumental church windows and smaller-scale stained-glass panels made for cloisters, civic buildings, residences, and private chapels. The subjects of these rarely seen drawings and panels range from religious topics to secular themes, including love, planets, hunts, and battles.

Focusing on stained glass produced in Germany and Switzerland from about 1495 to 1530, Painting on Light includes drawings by Dürer, Holbein, Albrecht Altdorfer, Hans Baldung Grien, Jörg Breu the Elder, Hans Burgkmair, Urs Graf, Hans von Kulmbach, Hans Leu the Younger, Niklaus Manuel Deutsch, Hans Schäufelein, Hans Weiditz, and others. This informative book is published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Getty Museum from July 11 through September 24, 2000, and from November 7, 2000, to January 4, 2001, at the Saint Louis Art Museum. ... Excerpt: Michael Lucas (born Andrei Treivas, March 10, 1972, Moscow, Russia) is an American gay pornographic actor, director and the founder/CEO of Lucas Entertainment, New York's largest gay-adult-film company. In 2004, Lucas was sworn in as a citizen of the United States, where he lives in New York City. The New Republic dubbed Lucas "Gay Porn's Neocon Kingpin", and the New York City media have called him the "Lion of Chelsea" and the "last of the New York porn moguls". He contends that his film Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita is the most expensive gay porn film ever made, with a budget of $250,000 and multiple celebrity cameos. In 2009, Lucas was inducted into the GayVN Hall of Fame, noted for "his stature as an A-list director and performer". He was included in a 2009 New York magazine feature about people who made it to the top, but arrived to the city with very little. Lucas is particularly well-known for his activism and outspokenness. His criticism of drug use and his sponsorship of public service ad campaigns about the dangers of unprotected sex in the gay community led Harvey Fierstein to interview him for The Advocate.
