5-0 out of 5 stars Fine pictorial overview of Hollywood fashion
As someone who's interested in fashion history (and who runs awebsite dedicated to the role of opera gloves in the history offashion and the movies, I found this book an excellent visual introduction to the importance of fashion in Hollywood. The writing is snappy and breezy, and the pictures (which, after all, *is* why you're buying this book - isn't it?) are gorgeous.Truth in packaging compels me to reveal that I read this book at my local library, but it's definitely on my wish list!END

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STORIES AND PHOTOS
I AM A HOLLYWOOD NUT. . .I love everything about the movies. At last, here is a new twist, by an author who seems to love the movies as much as I do.Thanks, Sandy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great photos with informative and entertaining stories
I purchased a copy of this book because so many of my favorite actors were shown in great photos. I started reading the captions and chuckled at the quick quips and short anecdotes. I ended up buying more copies as gifts. This book has turned out to be one of the best books I have ever given. Ihope others will get it for their library. It's not only for movie buffs, but the great photos and stories make a fun afternoon read.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love Hollywood -- you'll love this book!
I have seen Ms. Schreier on the A&E Channel on several occasions over the last few months discussing hollywood fashion in the movies -- she always provides so many great inside tidbits that I had to go and buy thisbook. The book did not disappoint! As a 40 year lover of the movies -- Ifound her stories enlightening as well as very entertaining. I can't waitfor the sequel!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Enquirer seems reputable compared to this drivel.
Again, someone who is relying on old outdated myths and legend has written a book for sensationalism.Shreier's treatment of Clara Bow and Marion Davies is shameful to say the least considering all the facts that havebeen unearthed in recent years regarding both ladies.Bow triumphed at Foxwith her two final films, and it was HER OWN idea to retire to Nevada withher rancher husband Rex Bell; Fox begged Clara to stay.Davies was one ofthe most gifted and well loved clowns of her era.She is accumulating awealth of latter day fans who are discovering this fact. While stifledunder some of the more lofty productions hoisted on her by Hearst, Marionwas brilliantly funny in many films and also retired (as many of theleading ladies did at the time) when she hit 40.If you pick up this book, please read Shreier like Mother Goose, either way it's all fantasy.Let'stry to find the real facts when proposing to talk about other peopleslives. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A BIT OF FLUFF
.....If you are looking for a tell all that reveals secrets of Ms Young's past, you won't find it here. This book is more like a combination diary and a "how to" serial that one would exspect to read in a Cosmopolitan magazine of the fifties.

.....It is a book that only a woman could find interesting.Ms Young makes one brief reference to her one sided love affair with Clark Gable by writing that sometimes those you love do not always reciprocate. She barely mentions Judy Lewis, her love child with Gable.

.....In Judy Lewis' book, "Uncommon Knowledge", Ms Lewis portrays her mother as distant, calculating, and driven to success.Ms Young was an actress who created a carefully crafted image of herself as wholesome and one which reflected her deeply held religious beliefs. She created the image in the public's eye of the ideal American woman in much the same way that John Wayne created the All American male.In this sense she was a character of her own creation and not an "actress" like a Bette Davis, who was willing to make herself unattractive and to play unsympathetic roles to craft her art.Loretta always had to be feminine and glamorous and she was very successful at it. ...
