Book Description
I wrote Just The Two Of Us because I love stories with a happy ending. I think they are even better when the couple start out as friends. I believe in this case both people have always loved the other, but they didn't think the other felt the same way. I think it's a beautiful and touching story about friendship and love. 4-0 out of 5 stars Bliss is Right
I liked this story! I love to read about black love and romance so I'm easy. The story had everything in it that you expect, romance, a little drama and a perfect man. I felt the wedding information was a little over the top (meaning too much information), but other than that it was a good read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not So Blissful...
Alexis Shire is a schoolteacher who doesn't have time for love and chooses to concentrate on obtaining her education degrees. Her best friend introduces Alexis to her cousin, Jaeden. The two begin to date, are swept up into a whirlwind romance and Alexis agrees to be Jaeden's wife. They then begin to plan for their wedding which turns chaotic when both sets of family members get involved in the planning. Alexis gets frustrated. She calls off the wedding, they later make up the wedding goes on and the two live happily ever after.

Simple plot, right. Seems very cut and dry, right? Well, I'm afraid NOT.

Ms. Young turns a simple plot into a complicated one with too much emphasis on the actual wedding and not enough on the main characters. This book read like "How to Plan a Wedding for 300 Guests" as opposed to "The Alexis and Jaeden Story"

There are so many little things in this book that irked me. This review would be a mile long if I listed them all so, I'm just going to include the major issues I found ridiculous in this novel.

1. Alexis and Jaeden hardly start to date when he asks her to accompany him to New York with him on a business trip. For someone who gave him a hard time with her home phone number, she sure took no time to say yes to going to New York with him.

2. The busy-bodied mothers! These woman got on my nerves the most. They came out of nowhere and dominated the second half of the book. Along with cousin Poochie, and Luchie and Uncle Gator and everybody else Ms. Young could cram into this book. I lost count on the number of people who were introduced in this book. Too many people on page at the same time.

3. Jaedenwas like a mystery man. Once the wedding plans began, he disappeared. Now I'm sure this was what Ms. Young meant for this character to do. But if he is indeed working a deal for his company, it would have been nice to actually SEE him work the deal. He just vanished. There could have at least been a scene with him at a desk gazing lovingly at Alexis' picture wishing he could be with her. There was nothing. We never saw Jaeden on his own and saw his side of the story. As far as this reviewer is concerned, he could have been across town with one of Alexis' bridesmaids that was always missing from the dress-fitting sessions!

4. Throughout the whole book, someone was yelling. Whether it was Alexis' father yelling for his dinner, or Alexis' yelling at her parents or Jaeden yelling at his mother. That's right, HIS MOTHER. Someone was all these people did was holler. Remind me never to go to Taylor, Indiana. This reviewer would leave deaf.

5. There was a very disturbing scene when Alexis and Jaeden were arguing. She told him something he did not want to hear and he jumped out of the chair and walked towards her as if he were going to hit her. I thought I had misread until I read the following sentence that she moved away from him. So, we don't know much about Jaeden but, then he is almost revealed to be a woman-beater? Was he going to hit her? What was that all about? I thought this was s a romance. Jaeden came off too threatening.

On a positive note, I found the wedding information to be refreshing but, there was just too much of it. With the wedding plans, the meddling parents, invisible Jaeden and his deal, The wedding planners and the cast of thousands in this book, Alexis and Jaeden faded into the background when they should have stood out amongst the madness.

The love and chemistry between Alexis and Jaeden was not believable. They gave no indication to me that they were truly in love. The only tender moments that had were spent when they were dancing. In my opinion, Alexis should have married her Palm Pilot. She seemed to care and depend on that more than her intended.

I hope the second book is better, Ms. Young.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first romance was Total Bliss!!

After over 20 years, I am no longer a romance virgin and proud of it. I knew that if the novel, Total Bliss, was half as intriguing as its book cover, then it was going to be well worth the wait.

Being an avid mainstream reader for years, I didn't really know what to expect. So, I only read this book when I could give it my undivided attention to ensure that I gave it a fair chance and assessment. Before I knew it I was on the last page. I must say that I really enjoyed this book. Total Bliss pulled me right in from the first page.

Jaeden and Alexis's journey to the alter was sweet and captivating. (And I secretly longed to meet Jaeden.) Stephanie (Alexis's friend) and Alexis's family members were so familiar and their methods of relating to one another were completely relatable. Between the card-playing, barbeques, wedding planning stress, and meddling family- I was laughing, sighing, and almost crying.

Sean D. Young was able to spend pages and pages describing the planning of a wedding and somehow make it compelling.

Every once in a while a book comes along with a story I look forward to getting back to. This is one of them.

Thank You, Mrs. Young for a wonderful debut novel.

4-0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL LOVE STORY!!
I loved Jaeden from the beginning. He was strong, strong-willed, and sexy! Determined and romantic. Alexis was a beautiful and smart woman, who let love sneak up on her when she wasn't looking. This was a wonderful story of instant love, sweet and pure. I loved the mothers and there 'getting back together' antics when the stress of the wedding got too much for Alexis. It was always clear to see that these two loved each other through all the ups and downs. That's what made me root for them, stay in their corner until they officially said 'I Do!'. Sean, I'm very proud of you. You done real good! Keep up the good work, my friend! Be blessed! GO OUT, EVERYONE, BUY THIS BOOK!

4-0 out of 5 stars Silent Love
Sean D Young writes a delightful story about two young goal oriented people who finds it hard to allow their selves the room for joy but when love finds them it leaves them with nothing but joy and eyes for each other.

Alexis Shrine had goals to be an elementary school principal. She has her eyes on achieving this goal in ten years or less but in order to do it she has to maintain a tight schedule of teaching by day and being a student by night.Alexis is so focus on her dreams that she hasn't made time for anything social but when she finally makes time for it she is extremely please with what she finds.Jaeden Jefferson was a businessman with a goal and that goal was to take his business to the edge. When he meets Alexis, he isn't sure why but all of a sudden his goal becomes to get to know her.He finds himself falling in love but can his love for Alexis survive while he purses his business adventures?

Sean D Young might be the newest member of the literary world of romance, but I can tell from Total Bliss she has plans to be around for a while and she can plan a beautiful wedding. Not only did she keep it real she also maintains a heartfelt relationship between the two main characters.I tip my hat off to Mrs. Young for a job well done on her first piece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warm, Sexy, and Funny!
In Sean D. Young's sophomore effort she introduces floral designer, Rose Hart and chef, and businessman, Marc Damon.Rose is five-nine and 220 pounds, so she's not your average romance heroine. She's lovely, strong and is devoted to her friends and family. It is at her best friend and cousin's wedding that she meets Marc and they experience instant attraction.Rose, at first, has trouble believing in Marc's sincerity. But he soon wins her over. With This Ring had all the elements a romance junkie craves: It was sensual, had a good plot with many surprises, and was hilarious.I read Ms. Young's first novel, Total Bliss. It was good, too, however I think she's only getting better as an author.I'm looking forward to reading Rose's sisters' stories in Ms. Young's upcoming Hearts and Flowers books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love is unexpected
I enjoyed that this book captured the lady's of Hearts and Flowers from his first book Total Bliss. This book showed that love comes in all shapes and sizes. Their unexpected meet turned into a dream come true.Rose never thought she could find true love and Marc gave and showed her what true love is.I'm glad that this book did't have alot of drama in it and it showed how love should be when your prince comes along and sweeps you off of your feet. I hope that Mr. Young will have sequels showing the other sisters in their new found interest.Great book of an unexpected love.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not feeling this at all......
The characters were way too nice (hero and heroine) and he was definitely not agressive enough for me...I did like the fact that she was not your typical slim and slender female...we do come in all different sizes...but he was just too sweet..and I didn't expect that from a man who had an earring in his ear...not feeling this one at all...Total Bliss was much better..this is okay if you're looking for a sweet romance...has some good intimate scenes..but not for me... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Ancient Greece for Young and Old
The cover of this book has a dynamic picture of the famous ancient Greek temple, the Parthenon, in Athens. The contents of this book are divided into two parts.Part one of the book focuses mostly on the history of ancient Greece from around 1600 B.C. in the late Bronze Age to about 100 B.C. when the Romans conquered the Greek civilization.Part two concentrates on Greek culture and society. Some of ancient Greece's most famous sites are reviewed as well as other aspects of Greek culture such as art, architecture, myths, everyday life, entertainment, and housing.A nice aspect of the book is the inclusion of two pages solely devoted to the world of Greek women, discussing their daily life, their roles in society, and influential Greek women. There are many beautiful photographs and illustrations (all with informative captions), a few diagrams, a table of dates, and numerous maps. And because Greece was divided into many small, independently ruled communities or city-states, the abundant use of maps is very important and helpful to readers. The atlas contains a lot of excellent information, but as a whole, the information did not flow from one topic to the next. It is best suited as a resource for studying special topics of interest rather than a book to read from cover to cover. It is also more appropriate for more advanced readers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great work of Historical Fiction
Maybe its because I haven't read fiction for a while, but I found this book totally engrossing. Of course, historical fiction has always been one of my favorites. This book is basically the story of Barabbas whom we all know better as the zealot who was freed from prison and replaced by Jesus on the cross. The book revolves around Barabbas and his band of zealots as they oppose Roman dominance in Judea. Their animosity towards their Roman overlords and the virulent battles that ensue present us with a view of a violent time in history complete with religious extremism and government corruption. Perhaps that much hasn't changed after two thousand years?

Most of the story takes place after his release from crucifixion. While Jesus plays a relatively minor role in the story, his followers provide a backdrop against which the violence is contrasted. Barabbas' release is actually part of the story and his zealous ways are contrasted with the new-found, peaceful beliefs of the followers of Christ. A quest for a hidden "copper scroll" that reveals the location of an ancient Jewish treasure provides the impetus that drives the story to its conclusion.Yes, greed, depravity, brutality, blind obedience to power, and treachery all play a part in the story. I should say no more lest I reveal the ending.

In short, if you are a Christian, don't let the fact that Jesus is not a central character throw you off. In no way does this book minimize Christ's importance or effect on civilization. If you are not of a religious bent, enjoy it for its' historical context and to catch a glimpse of a turbulent period. But most of all, read it because it is a great story that will have you turning pages and telling your friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, it will keep you interested to the end!
I usually read about 1 book a week and I was looking for something new and different. I certainly found that in Sean Young's new book. This book was thoroughly researched, well written and he keeps the pace up throughout the book. When I picked up the book I was interested in the Copper Scroll and the treasure that it was protecting, never suspecting the other plots that ran through the book. Action, suspense, romance, twists and turns and a lead character that you will grow to love. Sean now ranks at the top of my list of favorite authors and I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read and interesting tale. I am looking forward to his next endeavor.

5-0 out of 5 stars An action filled and inspiring read
This book was extremely well written and very exciting. Great attention was given to historical detail, with vivid and vibrant settings. The main character struggles against oppression and his search for faith. All in an action packed format. A must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible! One of the best books I have ever read.
The length of this book scared me at first. It's a long one. But I was very intrigued by the idea of a story of Barrabus, and so I was looking forward to this book's release. I can tell you I was not disappointed in the least.

The sheer amount of fight in Barrabus and the rest of the zealots is amazing. Strong charcters abound in this story, from Barrabus himself to Gaius the centurion to Deborah the prostitute to Leila the merchant's daughter. All of them important, and all of them well drawn and beleivable. This book really does take you back to another time and place, as author Jeremy Robinson has said. It's obvious a great deal of time was spent on research.

Start with Barrabus' quest to free Isreal from Rome, add a myserious copper scroll that hides a secret that could save or destroy nations, and mix in a prefect who will stop at nothing to get it. Stir those together and you have a fantastic story that more than once had me up past my bedtime because I simply could not sleep unless I knew what happened next.

Violent Sands is easily one of the best books I have ever read. I will be hoping for more work from Young in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this book
I love a good story, and this book was a great read.Even though it looked like a big book when I first picked it up, I got into it right away and finished it in a couple of plane rides. It's reminiscent of the movie Gladiator in setting and action, and is a really solid story, not your typical paperback action book you pick up in an airport newstand. I also definitely got into the characters, I love reading a book about someone who is just a minor person in another work, but is developed into a protagonist, with a fascinating history, purpose, romances, life (as in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead vs. Hamlet). This book goes into the life of Barabbas from the Bible, of whom all the bible tells us is that he was freed and Christ was crucified. The story explores why he was doomed for crucifixion, what his purpose in life was, and what happened when he was freed at the will of the people of Israel.I also love the historical accuracy, I learned a few new things about Roman and Jewish customs.I like pretty much any story about ancient Rome.On top of that, there was one scene that really moved me.I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say I definitely recommend this book for some fun reading! ... The African continent is huge and varied, so much so that to compress its history and ethnography into a single volume seems an impossibly daunting task. Recognizing this, African historian Jocelyn Murray and 37 specialist contributors nonetheless do a fine job in this richly illustrated atlas of outlining the sweep of hundreds of thousands of years of human activity on the continent. Their narrative incorporates recent scholarship on the emergence of humankind in eastern Africa, an evolutionary tale that can now be traced to 4.5 million years before the present; the history of the great states of prehistory, among them the Asante, Benin, Great Zimbabwe, and Xhosa empires; and the complex pattern of cultural development across the continent. Along the way Murray and company look at such matters as religion, traditional healing, arts and crafts, music, dance, vernacular architecture, and politics. They also consider matters that are of pressing importance to Africa's future, among them resource use and conservation, environmental preservation, economic development, and urbanization. The book includes a nation-by-nation geographical almanac and gazetteer that, while certain to require updating soon, stand as highly useful references for students. The well- annotated maps are especially valuable. --Gregory McNameeBook Description

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and basic
I found this book very helpful, if a little lack-luster, in teaching a unit on Africa to my 6th grader. It has good drawings and photographs, and a nice section on African history.Of course, it is too small a book to cover anything very deeply, but it was an excellent first step for a broad overview.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cultural Atlas of Africa
This book is well written and explaining about whole African continent from emergence of man in Africa, its language family, religion to art with lots of pictures. It gives you a good idea what is like as a whole.Information on each country, however, written in the latter half, is alittle too brief. It only explains history and general information such aspopulation and capital, etc. If it could provide us more information oncultural differences in each country in order to let us know how they live, for example, their diet, housing conditions, education systems, fashions, festivals, it would be much more informational and vivid. This is a goodatlas to provide an overall picture of the continent Africa. ... Read more

From the author: Objective: The purpose of this study was to document the prevalence and describe the characteristics of alcohol-related sexual assault among middle and high school students. Method: A Web-based, self-administered survey was used to collect data on 7th- through 12th-grade students (n = 1,037) in a large metropolitan area in the Midwest. A modified version of the Sexual Experiences Survey was used to ask students about their sexual victimization experiences so as to examine the involvement of alcohol within specific assault events. The sample was equally distributed by biological gender and ethnicity (white vs black) and was, on average (SD), 14 (2) years of age. Results: Findings from the study indicate that alcohol was involved in approximately 12%-20% of the assault cases, depending on age and gender of the respondent. For females, the presence of alcohol during assault differed significantly based on the location at which the assault occurred, ranging from 6% (at the survivor's home) to 29% (at parties or someone else's home). Furthermore, alcohol-related assault among females was more likely to involve physical force than non-alcohol-related assault. Conclusions: Results are discussed in light of the risk factors of alcohol-related assault among adolescents as well as the nature of social contexts that fosters alcohol-related sexual assault among both adolescents and college students.

Book Description
High-octane horror one-shots! First, Werewolf by Night returns to the Marvel Universe! This shocking story by X-Men's Mike Carey and Ultimate Power's Greg Land (in the comic he's waited his whole life to draw!) is a powerful, brutally terrifying tale that will redefine Jacob Russel forever! And as if that wasn't enough - join writer/artist Skottie Young in a no-holds-barred look at the afterlife of the Monster of Frankenstein! Next, Moon Knight and Ultimates Annual writer Charlie Huston navigates Man-Thing into a creepy tale of the worst kind of dinner invitation...Plus the brilliant Ted McKeever brings his expressionistic storytelling to Simon Garth - the original Marvel Zombie! And finally, Brendan Cahill and Michael Gaydos (Alias) take Morbius the Living Vampire through the deepest depths of terrifying addictions in a devastating fully painted horror tale...and C.B. Cebulski is joined by superstar David Finch (New Avengers, Moon Knight) to present an untold tale of the king of vampires - Dracula - and his beautiful daughter, Lilith! Terror has never looked as good as these frightening fables!Collects Legion of Monsters: Werewolf by Night, Legion of Monsters: Morbius, Legion of Monsters: Man-Thing, Legion of Monsters: Satana. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Badly written and mostly pointless
I was also a fan of most of Marvel's monster characters, so it was a disappointment to see the shabby treatment they got in these stories. Yes, the art in the Werewolf and Lilith stories is very good ... but in all of these stories, nothing really happens. The only remotely clever treatment was in the Man-Thing story, but the adversaries in that were written so over-the-top that it was hard to appreciate the tale. The Satana story pulled in a couple of plot items from the "Hellstorm: Prince of Lies" series, but it was flat, and the art (as a previous poster said) was nothing to write home about.

Most disappointing of all was the Morbius story. Not only did the art look like it was painted in one night, but I can't help but wonder if the writer has actually read any of Morbius' history. He's treated like a supernatural vampire here, not a scientific one, and isn't that the point of Morbius? Here, he's just another angst-heavy member of the undead. Lazy writing.

If I were you, I'd simply download the individual gorgeous Greg Land covers and give this collection a skip.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great artwork, not much else
Marvel relaunches their Legion of Monsters line with this handsome hardcover collection, collecting one-shot stories and tales of Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Morbius, Satana, Lilith, The Zombie, The Monster of Frankenstein, The Living Mummy, and Dracula to boot.Problem is, while there's some great artwork to be found here, most of the stories come off as flat.Mike Carey's (Hellblazer, X-Men) tale of Werewolf by Night is one of these, even though it features the superb artwork of Greg Land.Skottie Young's take on Monster of Frankenstein is quite good though, and even though his artwork may be an acquired taste, it more than suits the story.Moon Knight writer Charlie Huston and frequent Frank Miller partner Klaus Janson bring us a solid Man-Thing story, while Ted McKeever writes and illustrates an enjoyable take on The Zombie Simon Garth.Robin Furth's tale of Satana isn't all that interesting, and the artwork from Kalman Andrasofszky isn't anything to write home about either, and resembles a poor man's Joshua Middleton.Jonathan Hickman's Living Mummy tale is interesting in terms of story, delivery, and artwork; the Morbius tale by Brandon Cahill and Alias artist Michael Gaydos is disappointing, and the Lilith and Dracula story features great artwork from David Finch (New Avengers) and an average and short story from C.B. Cebulski. There are additional, older tales (I refuse to call them classic because trust me, they're far from it) included as well, including the first Legion of Monsters story by Bill Mantlo, which features a lame team-up between Ghost Rider, Morbius, Man-Thing, and Werewolf by Night. There are also older tales of the Monster of Frankenstein by Doug Moench and Manphibian by legendary Tomb of Dracula writer Marv Wolfman (both of which are quite good), and three tales of the Scarecrow (no, not the Batman villain) which are quite boring. The 2005 Horror edition of the Offical Handbook of the Marvel Universe is included as well, even though it doesn't feel complete in its character listing.Anyway you slice it, Legion of Monsters is a mixed bag to be sure, but the good still outweighs the bad here.Whether or not it is worth picking up however is entirely up to you.
