In more recent years the composer has enjoyed a rising interest from abroad. Oliver Knussen has conducted several of Nordentoft's works and he has accepted commissions from outstanding ensembles like Capricorn, the London Sinfonietta, and the Nash Ensemble. Anders Nordentoft is at the moment working on a new orchestral work, a commission from the Sealand Symphony Orchestra, which will receive its world premiere in 1996. These are the words booming from a megaphone with the sound of violins softly humming in the background and slowly increasing their intensity with each powerful word spoken. These are also the words from Anders Nordentoft's newly written piece, Beggar's Palace. During practice with the orchestra, he is constantly intervening with the phrases, "A little softer here," and, "More power here"' until it sounds precisely the way he hears it in his head. His excitement with each note played undoubtedly identifies him as their creator. With this excitement built up inside and exposing itself through his childlike smile, he carries his small frame bouncing around the room in an attempt to hear his masterpiece from all angles. Beggar's Palace was his answer. This piece, about an imaginary train station of life, contains an array of mood-setting tempos and mixed emotions.
