An einem Frühlingstag des Jahres 1818 entdeckten der Komponist und seine Frau Caroline das typisch sächsische Winzerhaus des Weinbauern Gottfried Felsner, unweit von Pillnitz, ein Zeugnis ländlicher Baukultur. Hier fand er mit seiner Familie, vorwiegend in den wärmeren Jahreszeiten der Jahre 1818/19 und 1822-24 Zuflucht nach des Tages Hast und empfing Komponisten und Dichter, wie Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Ludwig Tieck, Heinrich Marschner, E. T. A. Hoffmann, Louis Spohr, Jean Paul und Wilhelm Müller. „O Hosterwitz, oh Ruhe! Ruhe!", schrieb Weber im Mai 1823 in sein Tagebuch - ein Ausdruck dessen, was er für diese Gegend empfand. Im Hosterwitzer Sommerhaus und in „Cosels Garten" (Neustädter Seite) entstanden die Opern „Euryanthe" und „Oberon", außerdem Lieder, Kammermusik, Messen sowie die „Aufforderung zum Tanz", die er seiner Frau Caroline 1819 widmete.

De eerste zeven jaren zwerft Weber met het reizend familietheater van kermis naar jaarmarkt, en geniet met volle teugen van de schijnwereld van decors, muzikanten, schmink en baardlijm. Omdat Joseph Haydn geen tijd en belangstelling heeft voor dit wonderkind, laat vader Weber hem bij Michael Haydn studeren, later angstvallig de voornaam verzwijgend. The Weber School is a "Gymnasium", which means that students from the age of 10 to 19 go there. They can take the "Abitur" exam after 9 years (classes 5 through 13) which enables them to study at a university. You can take various kinds of subjects during the final two years. Students specialize then, but this does not mean they can choose subjects only according to their own taste. There are some subjects liks math, German, history or English, which every student has to take. The variety of extra-curricular activities is great, including for example, sailing, Russian, drama or computer studies. We have established friendships with schools in Denmark, the USA, Russia and Finland and we hope that we can also find partner-schools in Britain and France. The photographs below show the buildings of the Weber-Schule as they looked in 1910 (1). The buildings date back to the year 1830 and were used until 1910 as a Latin school. Today the buildings house classes 10 to 13, our assembly hall (where concerts and other performances also take place), the staff room and the office. In 1957 an extension was built (2) and another extension was added in 1990. The schoolyard (3) is not that big any longer, since our gym is presently being built there.
