After working on the Suite No. 1, I wanted to tackle the Suite No. 2.Claude Bolling fans will not be disappointed.A fun challenge!

A great compilation.
This suite no: 2 is currently quite limited in quantities, though that fact is standing, it is great to play.Although, everything is already presented to you, and all in front of you, which leaves little room for improv., it is just fun, and is great for people who cannot improvise.It is good to learn from if you can improvise as it serves for many examples of what you can be able to adapt.The songs alone are great and catchy, and learning them was great fun.If you're into Jazz and Claude Bolling, get it. ... Great Bolling/Rampal Album Even Better When You Can Play It!
Wonderful transcription of all of the parts of a classic album with the bonus feature of the CD minus the flute part so that you can play (or try to play) along.

Mandatory piece for the serious flutist
I consider this piece a mandatory one in the repertoire of any serious flutist, as it is perhaps one of the first examples of "crossover" music between classical and jazz styles. The recording itself was a platinum record during the 1970's. The recording is still available so that the written music can be followed easily, and if you are fortunate enough to have a good pianist to follow, you will find the music fun and not so difficult to play, if you are an intermediate or advanced flutist.

Nearly perfect transcription!
I bought this a few months ago and am about half way through learning the whole thing.I've owned the record/CD since 1974, so I was very familiar with the music , which I think helps.Claude Bolling's unique piano style can be imitated very easily once the songs are learned.There are some very difficult passages in these songs, so learning everything may take some time, but the challenge is worth it once you start to become familiar with them.The one relatively easy song, Irlandaise, can be learned fairly quickly if you've had any classical musical training.Overall, a great piece of music and worth every penny!

I`ve just heard this music performed live in Thiviers France.
If you like jazz and classical you`ll like this.
It`s a sprinkling of Bach with a dusting of Jaques Loussier and a dash of Django and a soupcon of MJQ and a generous helping of Bolling. It`s lively, melodious and lyrical in turn.
I`m going to buy it.

The Flute at its Best
This is a wonderful piece of music if you love the idea of playing jazz but do not know how to improvise. The jazz purests would condem music like this...not improvised, but it is good and absolutley fun to play. It isnecessary to get a good jazz trio-(piano,bass and drums) to accompany theflute. Jazz for the classical pianist
This suite with excellent orchestration and catchy melodies is an excellent addition to the repertoire of your combo, IF you have a skilled flute player.

The book contains 5 separately bound volumes with an unattached paper cover (pictured): parts for drumset, guitar, bass, flute, and piano. The drumset, guitar, and bass parts are straightforward, western style musical notation, with cues. Flute is the same, but Part 6 (Tendre) is scored for Alto Flute in G. The piano part is completely written out just as heard on the recording, except there is minor simplifying in the more complex passages of Gaylancholic and while the gist of the solos are provided, Bolling urges the player to embellish with "Improv" commands. The piano part includes, for the most part, the flute and guitar parts written above the main staff, and occasional bass cues.

Picnic Suite is moderately advanced music, but nothing too complex for an advanced high school or college-level combo can't handle. The peripheral movements: Rococo, Madrigal, Canon, Tendre, and Badine (1, 2, 5, 6, 7) are simple in that a classical pianist could pick it up and read it straight from the score, not winning any style points of course, but are easily accessible. Part 3 and 4, Gaylancholic and Fantasque are nasty movements that provide amazing music, but also major difficulties. The main difficulties in Gaylancholic are for the flute and the piano, who have to navigate tricky runs in harmonic E minor and long solos of increasing detail. Fantasque is very difficult for the piano given its heavy jazz rhythms and 5/4 meter. I'm not a guitarist, but Tendre and Badine look like nightmares for the guitarist of those movements.

Highly recommended product. The only reservation I have against the music is that it's not a particularly common combo; at least for me it's hard to find musicians (esp. flautists) of this caliber that are able to play jazz and in these many varying styles of it. Toot Suite-a Review
This is basically a Baroque piece for trumpet and rhythm section. It's pretty solid as a composition.
If you listen to Maurice Andre play it you will be enthralled.
If you try to play it you will be more impressed with Maurice Andre's abilities.

Great Tune!
I have run across few pieces in the realm of contemporary trumpet literature that are as fun and as well written as Claude Bolling's Toot Suite for Trumpet and Jazz Trio.The six movements add up to a rather monumental piece that makes use of a variety of trumpets, (C, Eb, Bb Cornet, Bb Piccolo, and Flugelhorn) but alternate Bb Trumpet parts are provided.I would recommend this piece to any trumpet player comfortable with collegiate level repertoire, and at least a little experience in jazz.The "Rag-Polka" Movement of the piece is easier than it sounds.

Claude Bolling's Toot Suite is a great solo piece for those players who have to play a recital, but instead of classical, want a more jazzy feel to things. This solo is really fun, but long-6 movements, and if you have them all, 5 different trumpets-C, Eb, Piccolo, Cornet, and Flugelhorn. This is a great solo though.
