Excerpt: This list of compositions by Anton Bruckner is a list of the musical compositions of Anton Bruckner sorted by genre, and then chronologically when year of composition is indicated, otherwise alphabetically. The WAB numbers refer to Werkverzeichnis Anton Bruckner catalog compiled by Renata Grasberger. Bruckner considered his earliest orchestral works mere school exercises, done under the supervision of Otto Kitzler, an orchestral conductor whom Bruckner sought out for orchestration lessons. Bruckner intended all his symphonies to be in four movements, though the Ninth is usually played only up to the end of the Adagio. Most of them require an orchestra barely larger than that for a Brahms or Schumann symphony, consisting of pairs of woodwinds, four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, timpani and strings. With the Seventh, four Wagner tubas were added, and a third woodwind in the last two. Only the Eighth has harp, and percussion besides timpani (though legend has it the Seventh is supposed to have a cymbal clash at the exact moment Wagner died). The slow movement is second except for No. 8, No. 9, and the first version of No. 2. Most of Bruckner's piano music was written for teaching purposes, though some of it exhibits oddities of the pianos of his day (e.g., the "bassoon" stop in one of the Quadrilles). Although Bruckner is reputed to have been an excellent organist, he made no significant addition to the organ repertoire whatsoever. After becoming acquainted with the music of Wagner, Bruckner composed s...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=22660289 ... Read more

Chapters: Symphony No. 4, Symphony No. 8, Symphony No. 6, Symphony No. 9, Symphony No. 7, Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 3, Symphony No. 0, Symphony No. 1, Symphony No. 2, Study Symphony. Excerpt:Anton Bruckner 's Study Symphony in F minor , ( Studiensymphonie ), or simply Symphony in F minor , WAB 99, was written in 1863 as an exercise under Otto Kitzler's instruction in form and orchestration. Scholars at first believed that the next symphony Bruckner wrote was Symphony No. 0 in D minor , thus this symphony is sometimes called Symphony No. 00 in F minor . In any case, musicologists are sure now that the next symphony Bruckner wrote after this one was Symphony No. 1 in C minor . It was not played in Bruckner's lifetime, receiving its first performance at Klosterneuburg in 1924. The Study Symphony is available in an edition by Leopold Nowak published in 1973. Together with the Linz version of Symphony No. 1, the Study Symphony was not written in Vienna like all Bruckner's other symphonies. Movements Scored for 2 flutes , 2 oboes , 2 clarinets in B-flat, 2 bassoons , 4 horns (2 in F, 2 in B-flat), 2 trumpets in F, alto, tenor and bass trombones , timpani and strings (basically just a tuba short of the scoring for symphonies 0 - 6), it is in four movements: Criticism Otto Kitzler did not consider this symphony to be particularly inspired, leading Georg Tintner to "wonder whether he had a good look at the Scherzo." Tintner considers the Finale of the work to be the weakest of the four movements. Bruckner himself labelled it "Schularbeit." Biographer Derek Watson says that compared to the Overture in G minor, the F minor Symphony "is certainly thematically uninspired and less characterful," but that it does have "some moments of warm melodiousness and consistently fine if unoriginal scoring."... ... This study provides a fuller account of Bruckner's early and middle years than has hitherto been available, and supplements the more accessible information about his years in Vienna by drawing on a rich source of material in contemporary reviews of performances of his works, comparisons between him and Brahms, and the well-documented accounts of hostility between the "conservative" pro-Brahms faction (represented by Hanslick, Halbeck and others) and the "progressive" pro-Wagner and pro-Bruckner faction (represented by the Schalk brothers, Ferdinand Lowe and Hugo Wolf). ... Kapitel: Stadtpfarrkirche Steyr, Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität, Internationale Bruckner-Gesellschaft, Brucknerfest, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Brucknerhaus, Anton Bruckner Institut Linz, Anton-Bruckner-Preis. Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Anton Bruckner (4 September 1824 - 11 October 1896) was an Austrian composer known for his symphonies, masses, and motets. The former are considered emblematic of the final stage of Austro-German Romanticism because of their rich harmonic language, complex polyphony, and considerable length. Bruckner's compositions helped to define contemporary musical radicalism, owing to their dissonances, unprepared modulations, and roving harmonies. Unlike other radicals, such as Richard Wagner or Hugo Wolf who fit the enfant terrible mould, Bruckner showed extreme humility before other musicians, Wagner in particular. This apparent dichotomy between Bruckner the man and Bruckner the composer hampers efforts to describe his life in a way that gives a straightforward context for his music. His works, the symphonies in particular, had detractors, most notably the influential Austrian critic Eduard Hanslick, and other supporters of Johannes Brahms, who pointed to their large size, use of repetition, and Bruckner's propensity to revise many of his works, often with the assistance of colleagues, and his apparent indecision about which versions he preferred. Anton Bruckner was born in Ansfelden on September 4, 1824. His father, a schoolmaster and organist, was his first music teacher. He died when Anton was 13 years old. Bruckner worked for a few years as a teacher's assistant, fiddling at village dances at night to supplement his income. He studied at the Augustinian monastery in St. Florian, becoming an organist there in 1851, where most of the repertoire consisted of the music of Michael Haydn, Johann Georg Albrechtsberger and Franz Joseph Aumann. In 1855, he took up a counterpoint course with Si...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

Excerpt: Jörg Haider (German pronunciation: ; 26 January 1950 11 October 2008) was an Austrian politician. He was Governor of Carinthia on two separate occasions, the long-time leader of the national-conservative Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and later Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich, BZÖ), a breakaway party from the FPÖ. Haider was controversial within Austria and abroad for comments that were widely condemned as praising Nazi policies or as xenophobic or anti-Semitic. Several countries imposed mild diplomatic sanctions against his party's government. Haider died in a car accident shortly after leading the BZÖ in the Austrian Parliamentary elections. He was driving over the speed limit while over the legal alcohol limit. Haider's parents had been early members of the Nazi Party (NSDAP, National Socialist German Workers' Party) in Austria.
