Excerpt:Charles (or Francois) Dieupart was a musician (harpsichordist and violinist) of French origin, who was most likely born in Paris circa 1667 and died in London around 1740. He published Six Suittes de clavessin (1701, Amsterdam), which exerted a significant influence on J.S. Bach , who followed the structure of Dieupart's dance movements in his English Suites , Cello Suites, and keyboard partitas . We do not know the details of Dieupart's youth and training nor the reason for his emigration to England in 1704. Connoisseur of Italian music and admirer of Corelli , he became a popular musician within England's high society as a violinist. He also participated in the development and dissemination of music and the Italian opera in the country. However, at the end of his life, Dieupart experienced significant poverty and social deprivation. While in Amsterdam in 1701, he published a remarkable collection of six suites for the harpsichord , joining the Italian aesthetic with the French tradition.
