Product Description
For over 40 years, James J. Dillon has been involved in the world of professional wrestling. Now he speaks candidly on all aspects of both his career and his personal life. J.J. offers a first-hand account and detailed history of one of the most influential wrestling promotions in wrestling history — the World Wrestling Federation.
He also gives a insider's perspective on the ludicrous business decisions made by executives who took World Championship Wrestling down a path that led to the company's destruction and eventual demise. From the highs of making big money, winning championship titles, rubbing elbows with top celebrities, and appearing on television every week — to the lows of filing for bankruptcy, extramarital affairs, divorces, and drug use — J.J. leaves no stone unturned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent look at the golden era of wrestling to today
JJ Dillon was a wrestling fan who got to live his dream. Started wrestling in the early 1970's and stayed in the business for another 30 years. Pretty much what he didn't do wasn't worth doing. He is not afraid to tell stories about wrestlers and himself in this book.

The thing I liked about the book was Dillon's look at his own life and the mistakes that he made. His honesty is refreshing.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best.
This is in the upper echelon of wrestling books.Dillon kept extensive notes about his career and Scott Teal is fantastic at fact checking, so it is extremely detailed and accurate.Lots of great stories from his 40+ years in the business, including some fascinating insight into Vince McMahon.Highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A History Lesson
Having read several wrestler's biographies over the last few years, I would rate this one at the top. Both the subject, JJ Dillon, and the author Scott Teal put the time in to get the facts and dates correct. JJ kept records of his career and Teal made reading this enjoyable.

For old school wrestling fans this book is a history lesson. Starting as a fan, JJ Dillon became a referee, wrestler, manager and eventually working behind the scenes as an executive. The book just as his career left no stone unturned. ... Read more

Product Description
James Dillon: A Biography fills a significant gap in the recent political history of Ireland. It adds considerably to our understanding of how the State's institutions and political system became defined after independence. It examines, from a hitherto unexplored perspective, how the processes of parliamentary opposition operated in the new democracy which was the Irish Free State and, later, the Republic of Ireland. Indeed, one of the reasons why this book is to be welcomed is that its subject, James Dillon, has never heretofor been the focus of comparable scholarly scrutiny.

Maurice Manning's book is a valuable and original chronicle, from a unique perspective, of Ireland in formative, difficult and challenging times. It is an Ireland that is scarcely recognizable today. This is the story of a public man in the best and most complete sense of the word-a man without whose commitment to public service, Irish democracy might not be the robust and secure organism which it now is. Anyone lacking a knowledge of the life and work of James Dillon will have at best a greatly incomplete understanding of the making of modern Ireland. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An historical hero brought to life
Life in the Old West was perilous and uncertain. There were fortunes to be made in the gold fields and in the enterprises that followed the gold rush. Yet law enforcement was not well-established, and stagecoach and trainrobbers could wipe out a fortune as quickly as it was made. The Wells,Fargo Company needed a way to protect the great sums of money its coacheswere responsible for delivering. It hired James B. Hume, a Californialawman, to take charge of its detective bureau in 1873.

James Hume was adifferent breed from the stereotypical western lawman who winked at civilrights and abused authority. He was just as concerned that an innocent manbe kept out of jail as he was that he find the guilty man. And he had animpressive record of catching the guilty man, the most famous being BlackBart, the "Po8" stage coach robber.

Pioneering methods ofcriminal investigation which are now used widely, James Hume dug pelletsout of a dead stage horse in order to do a ballistics test, and he trackeddown Black Bart with the laundry mark from his handkerchief. Determined butpatient, he logged an impressive number of solved cases.

This biographyby Richard Dillon reads as smoothly as a novel. He used James Hume's ownletters and diaries, which are in the Wells, Fargo Museum in San Francisco, for his research as very little had been written about Hume's life. He notonly relates the fascinating events of Hume's public life but mines hispersonality as well and finds a heroic and likable figure.

In a time whenwe could use more heroes, I enjoyed reading about a real-life hero whocontributed to the colorful past of the West and still maintained hisintegrity. ... Read more
