Excerpt: Sin Si Samuth (Khmer: ) (1932-1975) was a famous and highly prolific Cambodian singer-songwriter in the 1950s to the 1970s. Widely considered the "Emperor of Khmer music", Samuth, along with Ros Sereysothea, Pan Ron, and other artists, was part of a thriving pop music scene in Phnom Penh that blended elements of Khmer traditional music with the sounds of rhythm and blues and rock and roll to make a Westernized sound akin to psychedelic or garage rock. Samuth is believed to have been killed under the Khmer Rouge regime in August 1975. Sin Sisamuth (alternative spellings: Sin Sisamuth, Sin Sisamut/h, Sisamut/h or "Si" with spacing, e.g. Si Samuth) was born about 1935 in Stung Treng Province, the son of a Chinese-Cambodian (Sino-Khmer) father Sin Leang and a Laotian mother. He was the youngest of four siblings, with one brother and two sisters. His father was a prison warden in Battambang Province and was then a soldier during the Colonial Cambodia period. His father died of disease and his mother remarried, and the union resulted in two more children. Samouth attended Central Province of Stung Treng Elementary School when he was five. At the age of six or seven, he started to show interest in the guitar, and he would be asked to perform at school functions. He was interested in Buddhist scripture, and he learned Pali from the Buddhist monks. He enjoyed reading books, playing soccer and flying kites. In about 1949 he finished elementary school, and went to s...http://booksllc.net/?id=698211 ... Read more

Excerpt: William Everett "Billy" Preston (September 2, 1946 June 6, 2006) was an American rhythm and blues musician from Houston, Texas raised mostly in Los Angeles, California. In addition to his successful, Grammy Award-winning career as a solo artist, Preston collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Band, Nat King Cole, Little Richard, Eric Burdon, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, King Curtis, Sammy Davis Jr., Aretha Franklin, the Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, Mick Jagger, Richie Sambora, Sly Stone, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ringo Starr. He played the Fender Rhodes electric piano and the Hammond organ on the Get Back sessions in 1969. Preston and Tony Sheridan are the only two non-Beatles to receive billing as an artist alongside the Beatles (as distinct from receiving credit as a session musician on album packaging) on an official Beatles record release. Preston began playing piano while sitting on his mother's lap at age three, and he was considered something of a child prodigy on piano and organ.
