I have been vegan for many years, am a voracious reader, yet wondered when I picked up this book the other day where I have been. How did I miss this book?If someone would have said...Hey, I know everything, I can read your heart and mind and even unravel it better than you..and write a book....Sunfood Living is that book.I have not read all of it...the first 27 pages were enough for me to write this review and tell you all to read it..read it...read it...the rest of what I want to write will follow naturally if you truly do read it.It's tantamount to a moral issue.

More “hi-octane hi-jinx” from the author of Big Spender and Stickleback.

In a small town in the south west of England, rivals of a large business are being brutally dealt with one by one. Enter Tim Power, hotshot advertiser, whose girlfriend has placed him on a strict 12-month relationship test.

Caught in a commercial war between two low-grade meat producers, Tim discovers that bad advertising can be every bit as effective as good advertising, provided you don’t mind upsetting violent psychopaths with dubious family histories. Worse than this, Tim finds to his cost that failing in a relationship can be even more harmful to your health than accidentally offending tyrants with a passion for meat grinding. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars didnt like it
i found this novel to be lacking...something. something important. it seemed so TEDIOUS to me! i actually put it down w/o finishing it, & plan to donate it to a used book store. i did not find it humorous, it was boring. granted, i did not get more than 20-30 pages in, but sometimes, you just cant get into a book. you might like it, i didnt. i didnt feel it was particularly well-written, & seemed on the mundane side to me. yes, that was it" mundane. if you want a funny fiction novel, something completely not serious & with ridiculous characters, plot & situations, try carl hiaassen's work, & if you like sci-fi fantasy comedic novels, try the discworld series. this herding cats book was definitely disappointing. sorry i spent the money on it & on shipping. perhaps if i had kept at it, it would have gotten better, but it is just not my style. ... Product Description
The composer writes: Pilgrim was inspired, it will be no surprise to learn, by reading Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress - Vaughan Williams's great opera on the subject had fascinated me from its first performance, yet it was a long time before I caught up with this essential item in any well-stocked library of English classics. It made a great impression, not least because of its theme of a journey of self-discovery, and a rediscovery or renewal of faith. These are ideas which have a strong interest for me, not in religious terms but in their application to every aspect of human life (including great journeys), and this piece reflects my response in musical terms to this concern. The tempo of the whole piece, which lasts about 18 minutes, is basically slow. There are two quick episodes, but these act somewhat like the trio sections of a classical scherzo, save that the tempo relationships are inverted (the classical trios would have been slower, not quicker) and the canvas is much larger, being that of a single, substantial, slow movement. The form of the whole is perhaps fantasia-like rather than having any relationship to classical forms such as sonata or rondo - some motifs and themes are varied as the work develops, and the opening chords are of primary importance throughout the work. There has been no attempt to convey any pictorial elements deriving from Bunyan's great book. There is, however, one feature which, upon completion of the score, struck me with some force, which is that almost all the thematic material is essentially striving upwards - there is a constant upward movement (sometimes over a lengthy period) throughout the work.Pilgrim was commissioned by the Luton Music Club for the Raphael Ensemble with funds provided by the Eastern Arts Board and Bedfordshire County Council, and is dedicated to the Luton Music Club. The first performance was given in Luton on February 10th 1997 and followed, as part of a joint scheme, by performances in the same week at the Music Clubs of Bedford and Leighton Buzzard. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I won't be getting on a plane without this book!
I just got this book last week and so far I am absolutely loving it.I don't think I'll ever visit another city without it. Whenever I travel, I love to visit places like raw food restaurants, co-ops, farmers markets, organic farms, things of that nature. Those things, to me, can sometimes be more fun than visiting historic monuments!

John has found practically every single extraordinarily healthy/natural/sustainable nook and cranny in every US city as well as in countries all over the world. If you're anything like me, you wouldn't want to go somewhere and miss these. I've even discovered places in Chicago (my own city) that I didn't know about. This will be absolutely invaluable to any like-minded traveler.

I also love how friendly this book is to people who want to skip chapters and get right down to what interests them at the moment. There are over 60 short chapters on topics very relevant to the naturalist's culture. For me right now that's yoga, hemp, and a handful of other topics. Next week or next month, a new healthy and sustainable-living subject matter could pop up in my view and I'm sure I'd find a chapter on it in this book too. You can use it as a reference book in that case.

What I wasn't expecting to find in here was the dozens of raw vegan recipes in the back. (I'm a raw food person myself - [...]) This has been a real healthy bonus so far for me this week!

I have a feeling I'll have quite a few new goals on how to live more sustainably after reading more this book.A lot of us can definitely make small changes here and there for the benefit of the planet. There's a lot in here I'm not very familiar with. I love the author's philosophy too. He writes: "I, like everyone, know that the biggest room is the room for improvement." ... Read more

It tells how hemp can be used to create a more sustainable economy, reduce fossil fuel use, save our forests, absorb greenhouse gasses, improve farmland, and help struggling family farmers survive. Product Description
The poems in this collection by Lucy Maud Montgomery were written to reach the readers she thought of as "kindred spirits" - those thousands of people who then, as now, would be as deeply moved as she was by beauty in nature and in spirit. She felt herself drenched with beauty. It was an emotion that evolves heart-deep recognition in readers who will find an echo of their own yearnings and hungers for emotional outlet.Maud Montgomery was well aware that greatness as a poet was beyond her reach, but her verses were capable of putting into words what ordinary people felt and often could not explain. They express the sense of awe and delight arising from the simple human experiences of all that is lovely in the world."I've written one real poem out of my heart," she confided to a friend in a week when she had sent off several verses she knew to be pot-boilers.But even these held a small kernel of thought, of appreciation, of gratitude for the gift of natural beauty. The poems in this collection will reach as deeply into the heart of today's readers as they did in those who first read them half a century ago.Critics are now finding new insights and much genuine ability in Montgomery's poetry, but the poems remain poems for people. She wrote for people who hunger for a way to give voice to their deepest thoughts and emotions. She wrote as an artist paints, in vivid scenes with vivid colours. Her verses are clearly defined gem-like vignettes depicting familiar scenes beloved by all the friends of the earth. She writes of clouds and sky, the clash and thunder of waves on a seashore, the scents of garden and woodland, the kinship of humanity with whatever gods there be.The qualities of simplicity and earnestness are not to be spurned. While ordinary people can respond to these eternal truths, Montgomery's poems will continue to be read and treasured. ... Read more
