Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Carl Orff," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Carl Orff in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Carl Orff when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Carl Orff, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Excerpt: Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936. It is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana. Its full Latin title is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanae cantoribus et choris cantandae comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis ("Songs of Beuern: Secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magic images.") Carmina Burana is part of Trionfi, the musical triptych that also includes the cantata Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The best-known movement is "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi (O Fortuna)" that opens and closes the piece. Orff first encountered the text in John Addington Symonds's 1884 publication Wine, Women and Song, which included English translations of 46 poems from the collection. Michel Hofmann, a young law student and Latin and Greek enthusiast, assisted Orff in the selection and organization of 24 of these poems into a libretto, mostly in Latin verse, with a small amount of Middle High German and Old Provençal. The selection covers a wide range of secular topics, as familiar in the 13th century as they are in the 21st century: the fickleness of fortune and wealth, the ephemeral nature of life, the joy of the return of Spring, and the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust. Carmina Burana was first staged in Frankfurt by the Frankfurt Opera on June 8, 1937 (Conductor: Bertil Wetzelsberger, Choir Cäcilienchor, staging by Oskar Wälterlin and sets and costumes by Ludwig Sievert). Shortly after the greatly successful premiere, Orff wrote the followi...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=5267928 ... Read more

Quelques rar...http://booksllc.net/?l=fr ... Kapitel: Krzysztof Penderecki, Carl Orff, Theodor Berchem, Hans Maier, Liste Der Ehrensenatoren Der Hochschule Für Musik Würzburg. Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Krzysztof Penderecki (Polish pronunciation: , born November 23, 1933 in Dębica) is a Polish composer and conductor. His 1960 avant-garde Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima for string orchestra brought him to international attention, and this success was followed by acclaim for his choral St. Luke Passion. Both these works exhibit novel compositional techniques. Since the 1970s Penderecki's style has changed to encompass a post-Romantic idiom. He has won prestigious awards including Grammy Awards in 1987 and 1998 and 2001, and the Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition in 1992. As well as the works already mentioned, his compositions include four operas, eight symphonies and other orchestral pieces, a variety of instrumental concertos, choral settings of mainly religious texts, as well as chamber and instrumental works. After taking private composition lessons with Franciszek Skolyszewski, Penderecki studied music at Jagiellonian University and the Academy of Music in Kraków under Artur Malawski and Stanislaw Wiechowicz. Having graduated in 1958, he took up a teaching post at the Academy. Penderecki's early works show the influence of Anton Webern and Pierre Boulez (he has also been influenced by Igor Stravinsky). Penderecki's international recognition began in 1959 at the Warsaw Autumn with the premieres of the works Strophen, Psalms of David, and Emanations, but the piece that truly brought him to international attention was Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima (see threnody and atomic bombing of Hiroshima), written for 52 string instruments. In it, Penderecki makes use of extended instrumental techniques (for example, playing on the "wrong" side of the bridge, bowing on the tailpiece). There are many novel textures in the work, which makes great use of t...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

From the supplier: Carl Orff: Leben und Werk/Life and Work is a CD-ROM which, like a scrapbook, has more than 400 colorful visual presentations coupled with text and full-motion video clips. The CD includes examples of stage sets for such premieres and later productions as 'Carmina burana,' 'Catulli carmina' and 'Trionfo di Afrodite.' Other offerings are excerpts from Orff's fairy tale operas as well as a discography for every work cited. Although installation information of the CD is in German and a few technical flaws are present, the CD-ROM can prove helpful as an introduction to Orff and to some of his works.

Excerpt: Der Mond (1939)Die Kluge (1943)Antigonae (1949)De Temporum Fine Comoedia (1973) De Temporum Fine Comoedia, literally Play of the End of Time, is an opera or musical play by 20th Century German composer Carl Orff. It was his last work and took ten years to compose (1962 to 1972, later revised in 1979). Its premiere was at the Salzburg Music Festival on August 20, 1973, by Herbert von Karajan and the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. In this highly personal work Orff presented a mystery play in which he summarized his view of the end of time, sung in Greek, German and Latin. The opera is in 3 parts, with each part having their own characters. Part I involves 9 Sibyls, represented by female singers. Part II involves 9 Anachorites, represented by male singers There is also a double chorus of Sopranos and Altos used near the end, as well as two soloists, tenor and contralto, to represent the "Vox Mundana". A children's choir is also used to represent the "Voces caelestes". I. DIE SIBYLLEN - THE SIBYLS 1) Heis theós estin anarchos, hypermegéthaes, agénaetos A god is, without beginning, immense, unformed 2) Opse theü galéüsi myloi The mills of God are late to grind 3) Pasin homü nyx estin isae tois plüton echusin kai ptochois The same night awaits all, rich and poor 4) Choneusó gar hapanta kai eis katharón dialexó I will melt everything down and purify it 5) Vae!
