Asriel besuchte zuerst das Akademische Gymnasium und dann das Bundesgymnasium IX (Wasagymnasium) in Wien, wo der spätere Oscar-Preisträger und Komponist Ernest Gold sein Klassenkamerad war. Hier ging er gleichzeitig musikalischen Studien nach und studierte von 1936 bis 1938 an der Staatlichen Musikakademie in Wien Klavier bei Grete Hinterhofer und Theorie bei Richard Stöhr. Er war außerordentlich begabt und schon in jungen Jahren ein hervorragender Pianist. Nach der Okkupation Österreichs durch Nazideutschland sorgte seine Mutter dafür, dass ihr 16-jähriger Sohn Andre Ende 1938 als rassisch Verfolgter nach England emigrieren konnte. Ihr selber gelang die rettende Flucht nicht mehr. Mit Kriegsbeginn im September 1939 waren alle Verbindungen zur alten Heimat und zur Familie abgerissen. November 1925 in New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Hornist, Komponist, Musikwissenschaftler und Dirigent. Der Sohn deutscher Einwanderer studierte Flöte, Horn und Musiktheorie. Im Alter von 17 Jahren wurde er Hornist im Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, zwei Jahre später im Orchester der Metropolitan Opera (bis 1959). Schuller kam früh in Kontakt mit der New Yorker Bebop-Szene und spielte mit bedeutenden Jazzmusikern wie Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis und John Lewis. Ab 1950 unterrichtete er Horn an der Manhattan School of Music; anschließend hatte er eine Professur für Komposition an der School of Music in Yale inne. Von 1967 bis 1977 war er Präsident des New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Außerdem wirkt er als Artistic Director beim Tanglewood Berkshire Music Center und dem Festival in Sandpoint, (Idaho), als Co-Direktor beim Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra sowie als Artistic Director beim Spokane Bach Festival.
