Entstanden um 1875 Venturi 306 Hatte die “Versuchung des heiligen Antonius” selbstquälerische, schockierende Züge innerer Zerrissenheit und Vereinsamung, so spiegelt die Landschaft in der Provence Harmonie und Ausgeglichenheit. Mit Cézanne war ein großer Wandel vor sich gegangen. Er hatte nach dem Kriege, in dem er sich in L’Estaque verborgen gehalten hatte, in enger Arbeitsgemeinschaft und Freundschaft, vor allem mit Pissarro und Guillaumin in Paris und Auvers, an den Errungenschaften und Erkenntnissen der jungen Maler, die man bald die Impressionisten nennen sollte, aktiv teilgenommen. In Auvers und Pontoise war er mit Pissarro aufs Motiv gegangen und hatte das Glück freundschaftlichen Gebens und Nehmens erfahren. Die Landschaft war jetzt für ihn nicht mehr Bühne dramatischen Geschehens, wie in der “Schneeschmelze von L’Estaque”, sondern er malte sie jetzt, wo sie am unauffälligsten war, wo er am besten in ihr aufgehen, sich ihr unterstellen konnte, um sich in der malerischen Wiedergabe zu objektivieren. Die Landschaft in der Provence” bietet kein beherrschendes Motiv, keinen ragenden Berg, nur ein sanft ansteigendes Hügelgelände, keine imponierende Baumsilhouette, nur unansehnliches Busch- und Baumwerk, das er locker tupfend wiedergibt.

Charl otte Amalie , la ciudad puerto donde nació Pissarro ague, viajó a Venezuela. Temporada de los sueños, la exploración, poco después de haber cumplido veinte años. Pissarro en Caracas conoció a todos los habitantes extranjeros que estaban allí. Se internó por las difíciles calles que sugestionaban su pintura. Conoció a Blume, el famoso médico alemán. Bajo la dirección de Melbye produjo acuarelas e innumerables diseños a lápiz, muchos de ellos con referencias en castellano con la firma Pissarro . En 1852 regresa a Saint Thomas, para luego viajar nuevamente a Francia y establecerse definitivamente en ese país. Su ojo quedará fijado y guiado por escenas de viajes impresas en su mente. Y como se dice, lo que sobresale siempre en su obra será la condición de la luz que le imprime a su obra. Por ello Cezanne, su amigo, decía que Pi ssarro había tenido la suerte de nacer en las Antillas. Era el tiempo de los viajes de los pintores: Gauguin había viajado a Panamá, mucho antes de su instalación en las islas del Pacífico.

Sunday, March 23, 2003 Home Artist Profiles Camille Pissarro Pissarro, Camille , 1830-1903, French impressionist painter, b. St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. In Paris from 1855, he came under the influence of Corot and the Barbizon school. Later he allied himself with the impressionists, and was represented in all of the eight impressionist exhibitions (1874-1886). In 1884 he experimented with the theories of color devised by Seurat. Abandoning divisionism in the 1890s, he reverted to a freer, more vital interpretation of nature. It was not until then that his works began to be popular. Pissarro's warmth and generosity made him an endearing figure to many French painters. He was especially beloved as teacher and friend to Gauguin, Cézanne, and Cassatt. His son Lucien was also his pupil. Pissarro's paintings are in many leading American collections, including Le Fond de l'Hermitage (Cleveland Mus. of Art) and Bather in the Woods (Metropolitan Mus.). Inició su aprendizaje en París hasta 1847, cuando regresó a las Antillas para trabajar en el comercio de su padre. En 1852 abandona Saint Thomas y se traslada a Venezuela para dedicarse a la pintura. Tres años después se instala definitivamente en París, asistiendo a las clases de la Escuela de Bellas Artes y a la Academia de Jules Suisse. Corot fue el primer maestro en el que se inspiró, descubriendo su atracción hacia el paisaje. La Academia Suisse sirvió para que se relacionara con Cézanne y Monet , ahondando en su interés por el paisaje, totalmente en contra del academicismo oficial. Expuso en 1863 en el Salón de los Rechazados junto a Manet , siendo uno de los promotores del grupo de artistas alejados de la norma académica que se reunían en el café Guerbois, que daría paso más tarde al Impresionismo . Incluso Pissarro animó a sus compañeros a "trabajar el motivo" en relación con la pintura "plenairista". En 1870 se traslada a Londres donde se interesa por las obras de Turner y Constable . De regreso a Francia se instala en Pontoise, iniciándose una intensa relación con Cézanne, influyéndose ambos mutuamente. Pissarro nunca perdió el contacto con París, participando en las ocho exposiciones impresionistas con sus atractivos paisajes o vistas urbanas llenas de vida, luz y color. CAMILLE PISSARRO Camille Pissarro à Knotte en Belgique en 1894 Coll. Part. Né en 1830 à Saint-Thomas des Antilles dans une famille bourgeoise, Camille Pissaro arrive très jeune à Paris. Doué pour le dessin, il décide de se consacrer à la peinture à partir de 1855 après une rencontre avec le peintre danois A.Melbye. Il fait rapidement la connaissance de Corot puis de Monet, et se consacre dans un premier temps à des travaux d' études en parcourant les rues des villes, ou la campagne. C'est en 1863 qu'il expose pour la première fois au "Salon des refusés" et il se lie d'amitié peu après avec Cézanne. Pissarro est le premier artiste que l'on peut rattacher réellement au mouvement impressionniste. Dans les années 1870, c'est en effet l'académisme qui régne dans les salons officiels. De jeunes peintres en rebellion contre ce formalisme des salons, dont Pissarro, trouvent un lieu pour exposer leurs oeuvres, dans l' atelier du photographe Nadar. L'une des toiles de Monet, "Impression, Soleil levant", parmi d'autres est montrée là pour la première fois, et déchaîne la critique qui ne voit pas là le titre d'un tableau digne de ce nom . La nouveauté de l'impressionnisme tient dans le fait que style et la technique picturale dissocient les formes et les couleurs pour imposer de multiples nuances aux sujets représentés. Il veut traduire ce que l'oeil perçoit, sans qu'aucun préjugé littéraire ou culturel ne vienne influencer la vision et la réalité vivante. Ce sont les expériences réalisées sur les couleurs et le chromatisme par le chimiste Chevreul, dont ces peintres s'inspirent pour montrer dans leurs tableaux que les ombres ne sont pas noires ou grises mais colorées. Cet équilibre obtenu entre la vision et l'émotion est l'un des grands principes de l'impressionnisme.

Inscribed "4e etat - No. 4" in pencil, lower left. A superb and brilliant, luminous impression [Delteil 12]. Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was born in St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies. In 1855, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and studied under Corot. He later met Monet at the Academie Suisse and became a member of the Impressionist group becoming a close friend of Cezanne, Gauguin, Signac and Seurat. After the Franco-Prussian War he went to England with Monet and there discovered the art of Constable. On returning to France, Pissarro played a key role in the development of Impressionism. He was the only artist to show in all eight of the Impressionist exhibitions. Pissarro learned to etch with Degas and Mary Cassatt. The etchings he produced were usually in very small editions. Pissarro combined exacting craft, sometimes working his plates many times over, with the utmost freshness of vision, epitomizing the Impressionist aesthetic. His artist style most resembled Monet's, but it is more poetic with forms muted, more diffusely delineated and his textures are heavier.
