Jock Climie Chat Alouettes slotback Jock Climie joined the CFL for a live chat on Wednesday, July 11. The three-time CFL All Star is in his sixth season with Montreal and had 55 career TDs entering the season. Corey The Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan Jock, After last years Grey Cup Appearance, you were thinking about retiring for football. Why did you decide to stay and play another season? Jock Climie: Every year for the past three years, I have waited for the offseason to make a decision about my future. Each year I evaluate my health, my enjoyment level of playing football, and my law career options. Each year I have ultimately decided that combining both football and law brings me the most satisfaction. Steve Maheu Hey Climedog, after hanging with you at training camp this year and watching you in the season opener against Toronto it's very clear that you're not ready to retire any time soon. I know you're a great lawyer, but do the fans a favour and play another 12 seasons.

Dexter Manley's Comeback Published in the Washington Post: Sunday, January 14, 2001 ; Page B06. It was wonderful to read about Dexter Manley's happiness [Style, Jan. 7]. When I was a little kid and a Redskins fan, I lived near Mr. Manley in Reston. He occasionally would talk to me and my friends about football. I remember him as kind and without arrogance. I also remember him flipping his big TV to static on Channel 72 and asking if we knew whose number that was. I did not then realize that he could not read and might be proud that he could recognize that number. The story of Mr. Manley's comeback is inspiring. But why is anyone in this wealthy country permitted to suffer the childhood he did? Most poor and abused children do not make buckets of money playing football, do not have any legal forum for venting anger violently, have difficulty with college-level work if they cannot read and are not written up in the paper if they manage to succeed as Mr. Manley so admirably has. Wolves shut down Putnam
By ROBERT WATSON The Times Buford High football coach Dexter Wood tabbed the offensive and defensive lines as problem areas in the preseason. The defending state champion Wolves (12-0) alleviated any of their coach's concerns with a 34-0 shutout of Putnam County (6-5-1) in the second round of the Class AA playoffs Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium. Buford advances to play host to Pierce County, a 35-21 winner over Albany, in the Class AA quarterfinals Friday.

Tigers whet Buford's postseason appetite
By RYAN SMITH The Times Playtime is over. The games count, starting now. And no one knows it more than Buford High football coach Dexter Wood. For the second straight season and fifth time in school history, Buford finished the regular season unbeaten, this time with a 47-9 victory over Dawson County at Tom Riden Stadium. The second-ranked Wolves (10-0, 8-0) ran their winning streak to 25 games, dating back to the start of the 2001 season. Buford, Class A champion in 2001 and state finalist in 2000, begins the AA playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday by playing host to Decatur, the fourth seed from Region 5-AA.

Ex-Cardinal from Cameroon shows 'you can do it all' By Pat Forde

The Courier-Journal SAN DIEGO Cameroon to the Super Bowl? Don't say you can't get here from there. Roman Oben will give you directions. But there are no shortcuts. The journey starts in first grade. Go from West Africa across the Atlantic Ocean with your mother. Leave behind the father you barely knew and the crushing living conditions. ''The poverty is much worse than any project you can ever imagine,'' Oben said. ''You want a better opportunity. Everyone wants to come to America for that.'' Settle in Washington, D.C. Watch mom go to work as an administrative assistant at Cameroon's embassy. Tag along with her to night school at the University of District of Columbia. Do your own homework in the back of mom's class. ''Part of my work ethic comes from being from another country,'' Oben said.

Ring of Fame honoree Manley recalls
lonely, tortured tenure with Redskins
By David Elfin
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Although Dexter Manley is honored by his recent selection for the Redskins’ Ring of Fame, the team’s career sacks leader looks back on his nine seasons in Washington with very jumbled emotions.     “I still bleed burgundy and gold, but I was often very lonely in Washington,” said Manley, whose Redskins career abruptly ended Nov. 24, 1989, when he was suspended from the NFL for a year following a third positive drug test. “I was a part of a tremendous team, but I didn’t always feel that I was an integral part.     “I resented the [born-again] Christians who kind of ran the team, because I wasn’t one of them. I didn’t see how football and the Bible mixed. Even when things were going well, I felt abandoned. My father passed away when I was in high school, and after that I didn’t have a mentor.”     Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, who will join Manley and receiver Art Monk in officially accepting their inductions before the Sept. 18 game against Dallas, was surprised to hear Manley’s comments.

I once heard that the definition of creativity is the ability to make a connection among incongruous items. You’ll never know what combination of concepts will occur to you and produce a sudden insight. Why, Warhammer 40,000 itself is based on such a combination, taking elements of traditional fantasy literature (elves, orcs, demons) and mixing them with elements of traditional science fiction (space travel, laser weapons, aliens). I can only imagine what Tolkien would say about Codex: Eldar…. “Hail to the…Tau?”
Besides 40K, my other consuming passion is professional football, specifically the National Football League and the Washington Redskins. Like 3rd Edition 40K, football is a “game of inches,” won mostly on the ground by maneuvering, strength, and sheer aggression. It too is fierce, competitive, and allows no room for complacency: each team strives to constantly improve so that it can defeat all comers. This army takes its inspiration from the NFL, but it isn’t the first time I’ve done so. I borrowed the color scheme of the villainous Dallas Cowboys (“America’s Team”) for my

Comedy in the boxing ring by: Jamey Codding Pg 1 of 1 With Super Bowl XXXVI now upon us, I figured I'd better give some pointed, insightful analysis of Sunday's game between St. Louis and New England. So here it is: The Rams are going to slaughter the Patriots. What, you want more? Fine. No matter who's behind center for New England, whether it's Tom Brady or Drew Bledsoe, the Rams are going to slaughter the Patriots. Still want more? Then watch the pre-game coverage marathons on ESPN and Fox to get your fix, because I've gotta move on to something much more important. The Tough Bowl. Have you ever wondered where washed-up NFL veterans go when their football careers are over? Well, besides prison. I'm not talking about former superstars with spotless reputations. Guys like Phil Simms, Howie Long, Joe Montana, Ozzie Newsome, Marcus Allen and Dwight Clark have either moved into cushy front office positions, taken their first-hand experience into the broadcast booth, or simply slipped into quiet retirement. But what about those players who flashed onto the greatness radar for just a few brief moments, guys who delivered two, three or even four Hall of Fame seasons before suddenly vanishing from the football field for good? Or what about guys who had remarkable careers but, because of off-field troubles, owned shoddy reputations that overshadowed their football exploits? Then of course there are those players who, by the numbers, never amounted to much on the field but thanks to one fluke play, they're forever immortalized in highlight reels and our own memories. Where do all these guys go when their playing days are over, when they've taken off the helmet and shoulder pads for the final time?
