Here are some of the best moments, athletes, coaches and, most importantly, the championships!! BASKETBALL - BOYS North Eugene High School is basketball country!! From the time the school was founded, until this very day, North boys basketball has always dominated. Here's a timeline for Highlander Hoops: 1957-1964: Mel Krause coaches the newest addition to the Eugene basketball teams, the Highlanders. Mel Krause would later go on to coach the University of Oregon baseball team. His 1964 team won North's first basketball championship. 1965-1997: The Barney Holland years. Barney Holland was quite the athlete. He was a football and basketball player at Marshfield High School and the University of Oregon (he was the quarterback for the Ducks). After college, he began coaching Lebanon High School. He came to North after Mel Krause left in 1964. Barney's legacy at North was huge. Barney coached the Highlanders to their other three championships in 1966, 1976 and 1977. Barney's best players during his years at North were the Ainges: Doug, David and Danny. Doug (the oldest) and David did not win championships with Holland, but they did make it into the playoffs several times. They were both excellent basketball players (as well football, baseball and track athletes) and set the stage for their little brother Danny to come in and dominate North athletics.

Marion was selected by the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, the ninth overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft at the MCI Center. In a statement to the press, Ainge said he was leaving to "save my family." Ainge made the decision last week, and told his top assistant, Scott Skiles, who will replace him, of the decision on the plane ride home from Dallas, where the Suns lost Saturday night. "I love coaching, but anybody can coach," explained Ainge in the statement he made to the press. "My wife has just one husband and my children have just one father. Some of you may think I'm jumping ship. I don't believe I'm jumping ship. I'm diving overboard to save my family." Team members tried to connect the resignation to the teams performance, where Ainge had a record of 136-90 over more than three seasons with the Suns. The current season record was 13-7. "I didn't see it coming," the Suns' Tom Gugliotta said. "I knew our playing to our potential on the court was not perfect, but Danny had us working hard. It was a surprise." But Jason Kidd thought Ainge was getting frustrated with how the team was playing, "As a coach you kind of get fed up," Kidd said. "I think he was worn out and tired."

A freshman guard for Brigham Young, Ainge is expected to redshirt this season. It might be the only time he enjoys anonymity in the next five years. Any son of Danny Ainge, the former BYU and NBA star, will hear jeers on the court. A fiery and emotional player, Ainge often drew such wrath from the opponent's fans, and the Cougars are easily the most-hated team in the Mountain West Conference. So when his son walks on the floor during Cougar road games, the response will be anything but gracious. Not that it will be anything new for Austin Ainge. "Even I was younger, in the eighth and ninth grade when I wasn't very good, I still got razzed," he said. "I've never been able to escape it."
