Title: POEMS Description: First ed. thus. Octavo, 87pp. London: 1920, privately printed for Eton College by C.T. Jacobi in the Riccardi Press font of the Medici Society. This copy was presented by Eton to Edward Ward Hutchinson, a friend of Robert Graves and Laura Riding, signed and dated in 1926 by Cyril Abington, magister informator. Abington was headmaster from 1916 to 1933. Internally fine, endpapers slightly browned, with the pastedown endpapers slightly loose at the edges where they meet the binding, which is full vellum on bevelled boards, with the Eton crest in gilt on the front board. The boards are slightly bowed and the edges are slightly nicked. Item # Add to your cart Please read book descriptions carefully. I write descriptions accurately, with a slight bias toward overdescribing faults, if any exist, so that you will know exactly what you are buying. I ship books anywhere, at approximate cost, which depends on weight, destination and means of shipping. In the U.S., books are normally sent via Priority mail, with insurance added for books over $50 in value. This charge is added to the cost of the book, and, in Connecticut, a 6% sales tax is added to the total. If you live in another country, please specify air or surface shipping. I can then quote postage costs. Books may be returned within a week of arrival for any reason. Shipping costs are not refundable unless the book is not as described.

HUTCHINSON ENCYCLOPEDIA Gray, Thomas English poet. His Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard (1751), a dignified contemplation of death, was instantly acclaimed and is one of the most quoted poems in the English language. Other poems include Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College The Progress of Poesy , and The Bard (both 1757). He is now seen as a forerunner of Romanticism A close friend of Horace Walpole at Eton, Gray made a continental tour with him from 1739 to 1741, an account of which is given in his vivid letters. His first poem, Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College , was published anonymously in 1747 and again in 1748 with Ode on the Spring and Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat in A Collection of Poems By Several Hands , edited by Robert Dodsley (17031764).
