Weekly Lesson Plans
To maximize the potential of this book and to develop a personalized physical education curriculum program for your child, you will need to read all the chapters of this book. If you do not want to take the time to read this book, however, do the activities listed below for each week. This short cut is intended to help you get started, and as you gain confidence, you can begin to customize the items in this book for your family setting. This is a suggested list of activities. A typical school year has 36 weeks of instruction and I have 40 weeks of instruction listed. If you need to skip a week, such as week 18 because you have no snow, you should still have more than enough activities to take you through the school year. I recommend you do physical education activities between three to five days per week. Week 1 (September) K-12 - Do Pre-Fitness Tests pp. 54-64. (Mark off a one mile course. Put a chalk mark on the road by the front wheel where you begin, drive your car around the block , stop when your odometer is at one mile and put a chalk mark by the front wheel.) Memorize the major bones of the body on page 125. Week 2 K-12 Do these exercises at 10 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. morning exercise break. For the rest of the year, students do Roll-up, Push-up, Pull-up, Kangaroo Jumps, and Flying exercises pp. 12-16. Duplicate p. 112, one per student. Do game #1 Roof Catch pp. 40, 46

Competition Teams Lesson Plans Dear Readers, If you are planning to give a workshop on parliamentary procedure and don't know where to begin, what follows is a lesson in making a main motion. This lesson plan includes page references from ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER NEWLY REVISED, and sections from our video PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE MADE SIMPLE: THE BASICS, and a script that you can give your students to act out. The correct terminology is in the script, but the students have to make up their own debate for each question. Here are some teaching techniques that I have discovered that work: 1. Teach concepts of motions first, and then finally put then in their proper rank. 2. Each lesson begin with a main motion, and then do something to that motion while it is pending. For example, amend it. 3. Keep the instruction to students simple, short and to the point. Always have a script for them to act out. You can follow the model below. We are currently coming up with script ideas for every motion in Robert's Rules, the scripts will be available later this year. 4. The best way to learn parliamentary procedure is for people to practice it. Everyone should take a turn presiding, making a main motion, and debating it.

Teaching to the state or national arts standards can have a number of advantages. If the standards are displayed, students and their parents know what is expected from the learning experiences. If the students keep portfolios they will be able to demonstrate what they have learned and they will be able to focus on their goals and make plans for future work. Then students are:
  • actively engaged in meaningful work
able to describe what is expected of them
able to describe why they are doing what they are doing
able to demonstrate the habits of rehearsal and revision
able to discuss work-in-progress in terms of its quality better able to describe what assistance they need able to see their teachers as advocates and coaches
When is an Activity a Performance of Understanding? When students learn through their own thoughtful performance of meaningful tasks. When students are responsible for synthesizing their knowledge in ways that make sense to them.

DNA fingerprinting is evaluated in terms of privacy issues. Knappers and Chadwick's 5 Basic Principles Regarding Ethical or Legal Norms of the Human Genome Project are discussed. Bioethics: Debates in the Science Classroom Debates in the Biology class?! Absolutely! Incorporating performance assessment activities such as debate, mock trial, and parody allow the "non-science" student chances to excel. Bioethical decision-making is a perfect classroom tool. Biotechnology Education Program The Biotechnology Education Program is a two-three week multidisciplinary, spiraled curriculum that exposes entire high schools to the issues involved/or brought about by improvements in biotechnology. Math, English, Social Science, and Science lessons have been written by teachers to explore themes over a given year. This was developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Students will understand the following:
A part of a novel may lend itself to various oral interpretations.
For this lesson, you will need:
The Great Gatsby Divide students into groups, and assign each group to a scene. Parts of the novel that lend themselves especially well to oral interpretation are the following:
  • the dinner party
  • the rendezvous between Daisy and Gatsby at his mansion
  • the hotel scene
  • and
  • who says which words, sentences, and paragraphs and how should the lines sound?
  • Connection with the audience is important also. Students will be reading from their scripts, but whenever possible, each reader should establish eye contact with some members of the audience. After all, the students, first and foremost, are telling a story, so there should be some signs of intimacy between storytellers and audience.
  • Students in each group will need time to produce one or more versions of its script. Then they will need rehearsal time and space as well.
