Grading Techniques for Fashion Design > Customer Review #1: A very pleased customer
This book is not only an introduction to the amateur covering basic grading techniques on simple garments. It is a complete guide to grading womens clothes covering every possible style for the misses and junior size garments. Additional information on grading women and menswear size garments is also included. I am not an expert on the field of grading and this is why this book by J. Price and B. Zamkoff (who teach in the FIT) has proved to be of great help to me, as it is full of simple step by step instructions combined with many many clear diagrams. This is definitely a very practical book. To be creative, to design for a prestigious brand: this remains the priority aim of every designer student.
The role of the designer, now more than ever, represents who for the fashions companies, has the most advanced vision and who allows the fashion industry to answer, in accelerated times, to the most complex demands of the market.
The results are innumerable and they range from the planning of collections for menswear and womenswear, accessories, childrenswear, knitwear, sportswear, swimwear, to the study of the fashion trends and to the collaboration with style studios.
This basic program is the creative heart of the school and prepares every year a new generation of designers who present themselves to the fashion world with a great event/fashion show whose result is the first real professional experience and the entrance in the work world.

Up-and-coming fashion design students from the Trier Design College will be holding a show with the support of Initiative Handarbeit in which they will present their designs on the catwalk. One of the topics is „diagonal-vertical-horizontal“ with architectonic details such as reflections, optical refraction, unusual perspectives and contrasts providing inspiration. A playful medley of colours and shapes, originality and innovative mesh outfit designs dominate the show. The second topic, entitled "statics", stands for purism, clarity, severity and straight lines as well as simple designs. Pictures have been created using cotton, viscose and transparent yarns. Experiments with mesh sizes and yarn structures depict glass, thick and rough walls, old wood, polished steel and smooth metal. Black and white contrasts and clear colour combinations merge with linear graphics, checks, stripes and discreet surface designs.
... Batiks from the Sultan's Court
The special show "Silk in the 21st Century" by Silke Bosbach and Hannelore Koch will also contribute to the diversity. A top-class exhibition featuring prominent names from the textile design scene with fantastic, unusual, and yet wearable exhibits with inspiring colours and designs. Visitors can admire techniques varying from nuno felt, shibori, embroidery, patchworking and quilting, to classical methods using guttas and anti-spreads.

If you've been wrestling with the 'design' part of web design (or if you're a print designer trying to get your head around what's different about designing for the web), this course offers a relaxed, non-competitive environment where you can learn how to use art and design concepts to create more effective web site designs, layouts and graphics. If you have no formal design or fine arts training: You'll be introduced to design concepts and how they're used to make designs and layouts 'work', and you'll learn how to apply an artistic point of view in your approach to web design and graphics. If you have previous fine arts or print design experience: You'll be able to speed the transition of your previous fine arts or print experience to the web, and you'll pick up some techniques that are web-specific. You'll learn methods of analyzing design requirements, and developing effective design, layout and graphics solutions. You'll break out of old habits, and find yourself challenging your previous ways of thinking and working. By the end of the course, you should be able to make your web sites more exciting, more sophisticated, or just more like what you had in mind when you first imagined them.
