Barn dancing, with traditional American contra and square dances, is taught and called to live music the second Sunday of the month at 6:30 p.m. from September through June, and the third Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. from November to April. This is presented by the Fermilab Folk Club , the Fox Valley Folklore Society , the Warrenville Park District, and the Chicago Barn Dance Company . Silk and Thistle Scottish Country Dancing
Silk and Thistle Scottish Country Dancing
is a class of the Chicago branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and meets year round every Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. The dances are taught by Doug Jensen, a physicist at Fermilab. They are traditional social dances done in sets of couples, distinguished by stylized footwork (and the costume of the kilt, often seen!). Beginners are always welcome, and are encouraged to come early in the evening, when the easiest dances are taught. Basic steps are presented and the figures and patterns are walked through . The group is particularly friendly and welcoming to beginners. As with the other dance groups at Fermilab, you may come without a partner.

    Stevenage Sword
The Stevenage Sword Dancers are a Rapper and Longsword dance team based in Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England.
    Wor Dances
    Rapper
Our standard rapper dance is evolved from the traditional Newbiggin dance. After twenty-something years away from its homeland, the dance is still surprisingly true to the original; we have mainly built up a repertoire of extra figures which we use to vary the dance to suit the occasion. It is a fast, exciting dance, best seen at close quarters in a pub. For encores, we dance a second rapper based on the Swalwell tradition. Again, with some additions but still maintaining its own distinctive style, which is slower and more measured than Newbiggin.
    Longsword
Our Longsword is descended from the Greatham dance, which is performed properly by the Redcar Sword Dancers (as they have made a point of telling us - but they sometimes try to dance the Newbiggin rapper. ) As it takes up more space than the Rapper, it is normally performed outside and danced mainly in the summer.
