81. Greek Mythology Gods Olympians
He is famous for his oracle at Delphi. People traveled to it from all over the Greekworld to divine the future. His tree was the laurel. Greek Myth. JM.Hunt.
http://edweb.sdsu.edu/people/bdodge/scaffold/GG/olympian.html
The Olympians
The Olympians are a group of 12 gods who ruled after the overthrow of the Titans . All the Olympians are related in some way. They are named after their dwelling place Mount Olympus
Zeus
Zeus overthrew his Father Cronus . He then drew lots with his brothers Poseidon and Hades . Zeus won the draw and became the supreme ruler of the gods. He is lord of the sky, the rain god. His weapon is a thunderbolt which he hurls at those who displease him. He is married to Hera but, is famous for his many affairs . He is also known to punish those that lie or break oaths.
Poseidon
Poseidon is the brother of Zeus . After the overthrow of their Father Cronus he drew lots with Zeus and Hades , another brother, for shares of the world. His prize was to become lord of the sea. He was widely worshiped by seamen. He married Amphitrite , a granddaughter of the Titan Oceanus At one point he desired Demeter . To put him off Demeter asked him to make the most beautiful animal that the world had ever seen. So to impress her Poseidon created the first horse. In some accounts his first attempts were unsuccessful and created a variety of other animals in his quest. By the time the horse was created his passion for Demeter had cooled. His weapon is a trident, which can shake the earth, and shatter any object. He is second only to Zeus in power amongst the gods. He has a difficult quarrelsome personality. He was greedy. He had a series of disputes with other gods when he tried to take over their cities.

Athena's birth her role doesn't count. Dione. According to Homer inthe Iliad she is the mother of Aphrodite. Greek Myth. JM.Hunt.
http://edweb.sdsu.edu/people/bdodge/scaffold/GG/titan.html
The Titans
The Titans, also known as the elder gods, ruled the earth before the Olympians overthrew them. The ruler of the Titans was Cronus who was de-throned by his son Zeus . Most of the Titans fought with Cronus against Zeus and were punished by being banished to Tartarus . During their rule the Titans were associated with the various planets
Gaea
Gaea is the Earth goddess. She mated with her son Uranus to produce the remaining Titans. Gaea seems to have started as a neolithic earth-mother worshipped before the Indo-European invasion that eventually lead to the Hellenistic civilization.
Uranus
Uranus is the sky god and first ruler. He is the son of Gaea , who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans. His rule ended when when Cronus , encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth
Cronus
Cronus was the ruling Titan who came to power by castrating his Father Uranus . His wife was Rhea . There offspring were the first of the Olympians . To insure his safety Cronus ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea , unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus . When he grew up Zeus would revolt against Cronus and the other Titans, defeat them, and banish them to

85. Greek Mythology
Celestial Bodies and Entities. greek mythology began in part with thestudy of the heavens by those like Ptolemy (also see Astronomy).
http://www.crystalinks.com/greekmythology.html
Mythological stories are based one legends and folklore about Gods and Goddesses who live 'above' the Earth's physical plane. Mythology generally talks about how these Gods created Earth and the souls that exist within its physical parameters. Many people speak of the interaction of the Gods and Goddesses within their own experiences. There is sometimes mention of the interaction of Gods and Goddesses with humanity. The main Greek Gods were originally the Titans (Cronus) - who seem to have a nasty habit of eating his children. One of his children, Zeus, was hidden away by his mother until he was grown. It was then that he returned and tricking Cronus - got him to cough up his siblings. They in turn joined with Zeus to overthrown Cronus and the other Titans. Zeus now became the main ruler/ God - ruling from Mount Olympus. Zeus' group of Gods and Goddesses - 12 in all - were called the Pantheon. Their stories have a mix of love and violence and seem very sexually oriented as mythos go. Many of the names linked to the Gods and Goddesses are the sams as other planets or star systems - creating a link between heaven and Earth.

Specializes in sculpted angel, religious, and greek mythology candles.
http://www.candleartgifts.com/
MPS is pleased to introduce a new line of unique candle art gifts. Experience the breathtaking beauty of our line of candle sculptures. Here are just some of the candles we offer: The process of producing these sculpted candles is a long and difficult one requiring great skill. First, our master sculptor painstakingly creates each 3-dimentional sculpture from the original work in minute detail. A mold is then made into which the highest quality paraffin wax is poured. After cooling, the candle is hand-painted in several steps to create the illusion of carved stone. This gives each candle a unique look. When finished, you have more than just a candle, but a work of art! Our candles make the perfect decorative accent to any room in the home. A gift to celebrate any occasion. A piece of art to be enjoyed and cherished. MPS Candle Art Gifts has something for everyone. MPS

Welcome to my Greek Mythology Section! Here's something I've been interested in for about 12-13 years (Though in the past year or so, I've kind of drifted away from it due to other commitments). Since around 6th grade, I've been reading and attempting to interpret the many works of Greek myth. The way the stories explain every aspect of life is nothing less than fascinating. I've read numerous works including: The Theogony and Works and Days by Hesiod, The Odyssey and Illiad by Homer, Oedipus Tyrannus and Antigone by Sophocles, works from Sappho of Lesbos, Aeschylus, Euripides, Aristophanes, and many other works and tales. The tales I have in this section are my interpretations of what I've read and learned of the mythology. There are plenty of other sites out there about Greek myth, but the one thing that separates this site from the rest is the simple fact that everything is written as simply as possible. Anyone at any age level should be able to easily understand, learn, and enjoy the tales presented. So sit back, relax, and gain a little mythological perspective as you click on through this section. If you have any questions pertaining to anything in this section or anything at all about Greek mythology, post your questions on my message board and I'll get back to you (through the message board) as soon as possible (normally within a day or two).

Greek Mythology Coloring Pages
I struggled a bit making these pages... I wanted to balance how the Ancient Greeks portrayed the gods and goddesses in their artwork with modern considerations (like making sure everyone had their clothes on) to come up with pages children would enjoy coloring. Considerations when using these pages: In some cases, the Roman and Greek names for the gods/goddesses get mixed up in modern story telling. For example, Hercules is the Roman name for the half mortal/half god hero. Heracles or Herakles is the Greek name.
In some cases there are different (often conflicting) versions of stories about the gods and goddesses. For example, regarding the birth of Aphrodite, one story indicates she was born from the sea foam (on the shell of a scallop). Another says she was the daughter of Zeus and Dione. The first makes for a more interesting/fun coloring page, so I used it.

Mars means:
Mars was the Roman god of war and agriculture. It may not seam like these two things go together, but they do. Mars protected those who fought for their communities, and stayed home to raise crops for food. How much would you weigh on Mars?
If you weighed 70 pounds on the Earth, you would weigh about 27 pounds on Mars. The Planet:
Mars excites scientists because it's mild temperament is more like the Earth's than any of the other planets. Evidence suggests that Mars once had rivers, streams, lakes, and even an ocean. As Mars' atmosphere slowly depleted into outer space the surface water began to permanently evaporate. Today the only water on Mars is either frozen in the polar caps, or underground. Moons: Mars has two moons, their names are Deimos and Phobos. To learn about these worlds, Click Here
Mars has much higher mountains, and far deeper canyons than the Earth. Mars' biggest stretch from New York City to Los Angeles on the Earth. That makes the Grand Canyon look tiny. It Also has the Solar Systems biggest volcano called Olympus Mons. Links to other Mars websites
