General Information
I am an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, BC (Canada) . Vancouver is a beautiful city and a great place to live; if you want to see what the weather's like in Downtown Vancouver, click here . I am also an Early Career UBC Scholar and a Faculty Associate of the Peter-Wall Institute for Advanced Studies At UBC, I am currently teaching CPSC 532D , a graduate course on Stochastic Search Algorithms that I have developed last year. I have recently been teaching CPSC 421 , an introductory theory course for undergraduates, and CPSC 536A , a bioinformatics course I have developed in 2000 together with Anne Condon. I plan to offer the bioinformatics course (CPSC 536A) again in Autumn 2003, and the stochastic search algorithms course possibly in Autumn 2004. I currently serve as a programme co-chair for ISMIR 2003 (the 4th International Conference on Music Information Retrieval), and I am a co-organiser of the

Scope
The Workshop on Algorithms in Bioinformatics covers research in all aspects of algorithmic work in bioinformatics. The emphasis is on discrete algorithms that address important problems in molecular biology, that are founded on sound models, that are computationally efficient, and that have been implemented and tested in simulations and on real datasets. The goal is to present recent research results, including significant work-in-progress, and to identify and explore directions of future research. WABI 2001 is sponsored by BRICS and EATCS (the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science) and jointly organized and colocated with ESA 2001 and WAE 2001 in the context of ALGO 2001

The BiBiServ Tool section currently offers bioinformatics tools for a large variety of tasks:

As some analyses can take a long time - sometimes over several hours - BiBiServ provides two different result delivery mechanisms. Results of short analyses (less than 5 minutes compute time) are shown immediately in the browser. For longer analyses (maximum of one day compute time) the result is stored on a temporary web-site and the corresponding URL is sent to the user via E-mail. BiBiServ runs in a UNIX environment. The data stored locally can be accessed only by the BiBiServ administrators. The result of a calculation is stored temporarily for three days and deleted afterwards. We do not offer encrypted submissions.
