Nomo blanks Braves, Dodgers win 1-0 LOS ANGELES - Hideo Nomo outdueled Tom Glavine, and the Los Angeles Dodgers backed down the Atlanta Braves in a 1-0 masterpiece Monday that opened Dodgers Stadium for the season. Nomo, making his second start of the year, tossed the major leagues' first shutout of 1996, a three-hitter in which he walked five and struck out six. In a game that matched two of the NL's best pitchers, Glavine gave up only five hits and one run in seven innings, striking out nine. But he gave up three of those hits in the third inning, when a Raul Mondesi single capped the game-winning rally. Nomo stranded seven Atlanta baserunners as the Dodgers stepped past Colorado and out of the NL West cellar. The Rockies lost their home opener 9-6 to the Chicago Cubs, who blew a 6-0 lead but rallied behind a three-home run from Scott Servais in the seventh inning.
