Dedicated to the Arts and Crafts movement, 1870-1900, tapestry wall hangings including the William Morris tree of life tapestry. Tapestry wall hangings offer hundreds of designs, often in several sizes, from many European weavers including William Morris. Tapestry wall hangings are a form of expression through weaving. Tapestry wall hangings owe much to the vigor and freedom bought by the Arts and Crafts Movement headed by William Morris in England. Best known for his Tree of Life tapestry, he revived many old crafts; tapestry weaving being one of the beneficiaries of his fresh vision and creative energy. See also: Gallery - 2000+ items! Tapestry wall hangings were an inspiration to William Morris. He visited French weavers in 1878 and described the workshops at Aubusson as 'a decaying commercial industry of rubbish'. A year later he had a high-warp loom built in his bedroom where he taught himself to weave from an 18th century French craft manual. With colleagues and friends he designed tapestry wall hangings like the Woodpecker, and the tree of life tapestry. William Morris inspiration was based on medieval styles and techniques. The weavers at Morris and Co. achieved commercial success and, more importantly revived the ailing craft. The medieval tapestry wall hangings of William Morris make unique and decorative gifts. Bayeaux tapestries, from the French revolution are also available using rich fabrics will one day make a valuable antique for your family and their families. Discount tapestry wall hangings are for art lovers and collectors from all over the world! We are proud to offer you this wonderful art. Pieces are available for immediate shipment.

The Correspondence of John Cotton. Edited with an introduction by S ARGENT B USH , J R (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, published for The Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture, . Pp. xviii, None of us would relish getting the kinds of letters that John Cotton received. In , Charles Chauncy, the newly appointed vicar of Ware, asked his English colleague for help in coping with the "dissolute town" over which he now presided, whose "people have wanted instruction for many years." Reluctant to conform to the Anglican church, the future president of Harvard College turned to Cotton for advice. How could he "with most profit and edification . . . proceed in the Lord's work" (p. )? Nine years later, now settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Cotton continued to hear from his English brethren, like it or not. In , Richard Bernard, the venerable author of The Faithfull Shepheard (London, ), wrote to express his strong disapproval of the Bay Colony's use of the test of a relation of conversion to determine a candidate's eligibility for full church membership. How could Cotton support this rash innovation, "late devised, and in former ages unheard of, and in all Ch ris tian Churches els vnpractised Covena nt " (p.

    93. Roger Williams
This essay contrasts the views of Roger Williams and John Cotton in respect to the proper roles of church and state.
    http://crisis.net/church-state/wm-cot1a.htm
The Root of American Religious LibertyRoger Williams
Drawing the proper boundaries between the realm of the state and that of the often powerful religious interests within it has historically been a critical challenge for civil rulers.
It is fair to say that bloodshed and strife have been common companions of the tensions often associated with the overlapped sovereignties of church and state. The simplest method of resolving these conflicting spheres of power, and that used most commonly by the foremost empires of the past, is to consolidate all civil and ecclesiastical power in the hands of a single emporer. This was the method of ancient Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Israel , Rome, and many aboriginal societies. With the founding of America and the "new world" a laboratory was created whose alchemists were willing to experiment with a formula that was not in the research notebooks of the church-state past. This boldness of experimentation was gradual in America, as disparate colonies with several established churches were transformed over the course of a century to a single nation with a Constitution forbidding establishment. Separating the powers of church and state has been America's unique addition to history's search for the optimal arrangement of governmental power. It is probable that America would have never moved so forcefully to its radical stance of separating church and state had it not been for the life and work of Roger Williams and James Madison.

    • 4 Meter All Sky Survey (4MASS)
Work on 4MASS is in collaboration with Jim Condon, Rick Perley and Namir Kassim's group at NRL. The 4 Meter All Sky Survey is a proposed survey to be made with the VLA at a wavelength of 4 meters (74 MHz). This will be made in the B and AnB configurations with 80" resolution and approximately 100 mJy RMS noise. My work on this has been in the area of calibration and imaging. The behavior of the ionosphere at this low frequency makes calibration challenging. An AIPS add-on package suitable for calibration and imaging low frequency VLA data is available here. Preliminary results are available for the portions of the sky already covered:
    • VLA observations of the SIRTF FLS field.
This is a project with Jim Condon, Q. F. Yin and the SIRTF team. The SIRTF First Look Survey lies inside the SIRTF "constant viewing zone" near the north ecliptic pole. It covers about 5 square degrees in a region having a relatively faint cirrus foreground, centered on J2000 RA = 17 18 00., declination = +59 30 00. The VLA image of this field has a resolution of 5 arcseconds FWHM and an RMS noise of 23 microJy/beam at 1.4 GHz. The VLA survey results are available:
    • LOFAR Technical Advisory Panel
I am currently a member of the Technical Advisory Panel for the LOFAR project. LOFAR is a proposed low frequency array being designed by a consortium of Dutch and North American University groups and the Naval Research Lab. LOFAR is being designed to have high sensitivity and resolution.
