2001 PRESS INDEX ARCHIVES INDEX Race Statistics Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Indiana, PA October 4, 2001 By: Jeff Geesey For Immediate Release Francis Captures MACS Opener of Big Kahuna The top two drivers from the packed six heats redrew for starting position. Francis and Georgian, Dale McDowell manned the front row as the star-studded, 24-car field, were poised to ignite the Big Kahuna 50. As the green waved, McDowell blasted into the lead snagging the top spot over Francis, Matt Miller, Mike Balzano, and Rick Eckert. McDowell and Francis were slowly creeping away from the rest of the top five as the two waged an all out war for the lead. Francis tried inside and outside using every conceivable move on the leader, McDowell. The first of two cautions appeared on lap 18 regrouping the field for the first time. Francis held the top spot over McDowell, Miller, Balzano, and Eckert. Francis erupted at the cone as Eckert passed Balzano for fourth. Steve was leading the event as the second and final caution waved, just two short circuits later. In that small span, Chub Frank gained fifth over Balzano as his slide continued. Francis again led the field back to the cone. The top five remained unchanged until lap 26, when Eckert narrowly passed Miller at the stripe for third. Francis was inching away from McDowell as Eckert was trying to reel in the lead duo.

He said it was the best book he'd ever seen on the politics of global climate change. After reading it, I have to agree. The book ends in 2000, but all the forces Leggett reveals remain in play today. The World Summit in Johannesburg this September was torn by the same battles and struggled to reach the same kind of will-of-the-wisp agreements as Kyoto. For anyone who believes, as Leggett clearly does, that we must reduce our destabilizing assault on the atmosphere in order to maintain a stable and livable climate, this book is a must. It dives deep beneath the headlines to let you know how vital decisions concerning development, the deployment of resources, and our shared future, are actually being made.
