Biographie

RILKE: MAN AND POET
Introduction:
So much is written about the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke; his life though is the best mirror of his existence. And what would Rilke, if it could be asked him now, find his most recommendable book? "Geschichte from lieben Gott" ("Stories from God") is perhaps the most accessible work by Rilke, just like his letters. And the poetry that shows his 'seeing' of reality. In one of his first poems Rilke speaks about his wish 'to grow deeply into life (and so beyond it)'. That is the theme that sounds through his work and that he expressed in accordance with his character in his work. His books speak about a searching for that moment of existence, for the string of deeper moments. That is the Way of his life. To what do we pay attention in our daily life? And what really is our earthly existence? Only some outer material existence, or is behind this another form? Or would we rather not ask ourselves the questions that spring from Rilke's work? Rilke himself searched for the answers and took the questions to be the invisible that slowly makes appear the answers. By living the questions. This catalogue is only partly a view of the books that Rilke wrote and that are written about him. He wrote many letters and from the books about him it appears that his life was more than poems, these are only traces of an existence.

January 4 ~  Those Who Really Love Literary Collections "This is the miracle that happens e v e r y time to those who really love ; the more they g i v e the more they p o s s e s s ." ~ Rainer Maria Rilke German lyric poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) was born in Prague and became internationally known for his collection, Duino Elegies and the Sonnets to Orpheus (1923), poems which celebrated human existence. "The purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things," said Rilke who wrote with beauty and expressive power. The writer called his middle-class upbringing, "petit bourgeois" and began his literary career at age 19 when he published a collection of love poems. He also worked for a time as the secretary to sculptor Auguste Rodin and their friendship helped Rilke learn how to write with greater attention to detail. "We need, in love , to practice only this: letting each other go. For holding on comes easily; we do not need to learn it," believed Rilke, who wrote with strong imagery and was a major contributor to the symbolism movement of his time. His poetry celebrated the profound: love, wisdom , growth and transformation, and death "Live the questions," he urged passionately and spent much of his life traveling throughout Europe to gather

Rene (Rainer) Maria Rilke (1875-1926)
Rilke was a German lyric poet was for a time served a secretary to the renowed French sculptor Rodin. He evetually obtained the patronage of wealthy Germans. His prose and verse his highly musical and pervaded by a strong religious mysticism. As a boy he was codeled by his mother. She developed refined tastes in him and dressed in frilly clothes. When his father abandoned the family, he had to pursue his education in harsh military schools where the other boys did not appreciate his refinements.
Parents and Family Background
During these fin-de-siecle years for the Hapsburg monarchy, German middle-class families like the Rilkes were also caught in conflicting social and ethnic pressures. Being part of the governing minority produced some of their anxieties and those of many of their compatriots. As Germans, both the poet's parents felt privileged by nature, yet neither was an aristocrat, a status that would have guaranteed their entry into German society.
Childhood
Education
Rene was finally breeched in 1882. His preschool world with its dreams and miseries came to an end. Phia put Rene into his "first little trousers" and took him to school. It was a German Catholic school of the Piarist Orderan educational order dating back to the sixteenth centurywhich suited Phia's tastes for patrician elegance. He was happy at his first school, but the military schools he subsequently attended were an endless torture for him.
