Times change, but the truths of Holy Scripture remain timeless and relevant. As the voices of postmodern secular society grow louder and more appealing, it is essential that Christians hear clearly the voice of God through Holy Scripture in order to counteract secular society's pervasive influence. We can discover the truths of Holy Scripture only by principled, careful, honest exposition of Scripture-God's Word. Our publications offer a fresh, expository look at church leadership and Christ-centered church community life. Lost Doctrine "Has not the history of twenty centuries of Christianity proved that the plan of the primitive church is the only one which is suitable for all times and places, is most flexible in its adaptation to the most diverse conditions, is the best able to resist and stand against persecutions, and offers the maximum of possibilities for the full development of the spiritual life? - the churches established by the apostles remain the valid models for churches of all times and places." - Alfred Kuen, I Will Build My Church Restoration of neglected or lost doctrines should be a constant concern of churches and serious-minded Christians. No doctrine of Holy Scripture should be neglected or defined out of existence. Yet this is precisely what many churches have done to the doctrine of eldership. Even among churches that claim to practice eldership, the elders have been reduced to temporary church board members, not pastoral leaders.

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Lewis Roth July 24, 2002 New Peace Now Study Finds Most Settlers Willing To Evacuate; Financial Compensation Preferred Solution New Maps Available Online Washington, D.C.—Americans for Peace Now (APN) today released a new study from the Israeli Peace Now movement that found over two-thirds of Israeli settlers in the occupied territories would obey a democratic decision to withdraw from their communities, while an absolute majority would see financial compensation as the preferred solution to the question of their evacuation. Only a tiny minority of settlers would resist evacuation by all means, while a small minority would refuse any solution involving evacuation. Further, the new Peace Now study found that the vast majority of settlers chose to live in the occupied territories for “quality of life” issues, not ideological or religious reasons. APN’s mission is to enhance Israel’s security through peace and to support the Israeli Peace Now movement. “The latest Peace Now survey of settlers is significant because it tears away the mask of the Settlers Council, which tends to represent some of the most militant settler views, and presents a picture of settlers who are much more pragmatic, respectful of the democratic process, and willing to accept reasonable compensation for their current homes,” said Mark Rosenblum, Founder and Policy Director of Americans for Peace Now. “We found that the attitude of most settlers will not constitute an obstacle to achieving a peace agreement that includes the withdrawal from settlements. Further, it appears that the current Israeli government’s insistence on pouring more money into the settlements and refusing to dismantle any of these communities is, in effect, holding settlers hostage who would be willing to make ‘aliyah’ (i.e., move to Israel proper) if provided the financial resources to do so.

    MS. DeLEE
: Good morning. I would like to welcome you to the Americans for Peace Now Capitol Hill Conference on Refugees. I am Debra DeLee, and I am the president and CEO of Americans for Peace Now. This is the third conference in a four-part series that we are doing on Middle East issues, final status issues, in order to provide decision-makers and analysts with a balanced perspective on many of the issues that Congress will be facing in the coming months and in the years ahead. We hope that today's conference will provide you with a more balanced perspective on the sensitive issues that are facing the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations on refugees, as well as a clear understanding on how this issue affects Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. I want to stress to you that the comments that are made today are not necessarily the views of Americans for Peace Now or any other organization. We are not holding this conference to put forth one position, but we are doing it to provide an open and a positive dialogue on these issues and try to mirror the types of discussions that are going on in the Middle East.

    Extending the line of mentors
Early in 1998, Chuck Lewis approached the board of directors of the Center for Public Integrity-the widely respected watchdog group he heads in Washington, D.C.-with a special request. Among the journalists of national repute who help guide the center are Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Isabel Wilkerson; Susan Loewenberg, director of L.A. Theatre Works and producer of more than 200 hours of radio drama programming; and Ben Sherwood, broadcast producer for NBC Nightly News. "I told them, in essence, that after having done this for eight years, and never asking them for anything personally, I had one thing I wanted them to do for me," Lewis, AS '75, says. "I was that impassioned. "I said there was this person who had tremendously influenced my life. He taught me that it's not the actual substance of your work, it's the lives you touch. Ultimately, that's what is most important. I told them I wanted to reciprocate and honor his life and legacy." The man whose impact Lewis described to his board is Jim Soles, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Political Science and International Relations. Lewis is among the hundreds of current and former students who feel a deep loyalty toward Soles, who has been a mentor and friend to students throughout his career at Delaware.
